Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Great news re JKH well ahead of schedule 3-5 weeks

I know he gets s#1t piled onto him throughout this forum because he's not a superstar but his efforts later half of last year were great and always gives 110%, runs both ways (unlike many), tackles and is a reasonable kick...

I'm looking forward to him returning, he's the genuine depth we're missing from much of the rest

Wrong - JKH gets s#1t because he has barely improved after several years on the list and heaps of chances.  Have a look at the second half of the 2018 VFL Grand Final - he was woeful & barely got a touch.

The KK recruitment is looking like a huge blunder with now more concussions concerns. Someone also needs to be held accountable for Joel Smith injury. Its just getting worse and worse by each week.

Good to hear JKH is not far off as is Jake Lever

May to stiffen up our defence and KK to provide outside run and delivery.

At the time, both selections made sense.

A huge blunder or at best a mistake or just rotten luck, but both players came to us with injury concerns. Of these two players, May is my big disappointment. He may still make it back and be a valuable player but at the moment, there is a big grey cloud overhead.

Hugely disappointing.

That covers it Ernest, but was it foreseeable?

In the case of KK yes but he was only the steak knives in the deal.

May / his agent it appears did the ultimate con job on us.

The agent's job is to sell his product, like any salesman. The salesman will always try and convince the purchaser that it is a great deal.

It is the buyers job to check for all the defects, the risks and make a judgment.

I am not blaming the club. All you can expect is that the club made the decision on all the available evidence and came to a decision after a proper assessment and discussion involving medical and footy people. Another club could have made the same call on May, although perhaps not KK.

Players change clubs every year with injury worries. Lynch, O'Meara, Scully, Rohan, Hogan etc.  Some work out some don't. That is the risk. If it works out, it is a great trade, if not, it is viewed as a poor trade. Long term absences from the field always look bad as it does at the moment for both May and KK.  Chronic injuries often mean that players will have to be nursed for the remainder of their career, missing games as the injury flares up.

Anyway, it's easy to be negative at the moment, harder to be optimistic.

As a old sage once stated about becoming wise, ""wisdom is to transform a curse into a blessing, a challenge into an opportunity-its just a matter of how we interpret the situation.""

Seems we have been making poor decisions for decades Ernest in the MFC DNA it would appear.

And this is why I think our win/loss tally is going to be minuscule this year - like 3 or 4.

The club will put players into July/August surgeries so they’re back for the start of the pre season. They also won’t bother with May or Vanders and maybe even Lever and Jetta. They may also call time on Viney at some stage.

So we’ll be playing half a VFL side in the second half of the year and a win will be most unlikely. All in the pursuit of setting ourselves up for the best pre season possible.

I could be wrong but i just see us being ultra conservative now that our season is likely shot.

If we start doing that, watch the tanking calls come out, which we will somehow get done for and lose our first two picks! (not that we tend to get high picks right anyway)

The old sage, would have trouble arguing with that OD.

Remember that the old civilizations think in terms of centuries and thousands of years. Unfortunately, even a few years may be too late for some of us. But as they say in the classics, it's a long season!  I can hear your response......yes, sadly.

Melb has continually picked up players with injury concerns. We would have to be one of the most fragile sides.

Or one of the worst at doing our due dilligence?

Need to apply the Edgar test on any potential trade...

Wow.

Pretty hard to win games with 13 players out injured.

Jetta is getting close to the rest of the season.

AVB and KK could be as well.

Joel Smith is possibly round 15 resuming in the VFL and will then need a few games to get fitness up, so nearly the end of the season.

Lever , May,  Hannan, Maynard and JKH at least the 2nd half of the season at best.

Just wow.

Is this the end of Vanbenburg?

Keeping him, in hindsight,  is looking like a bad decision, when he wanted to go to the Swans and we could have traded him for a young player or pick.

He has been injured for the last 3 years, with a run at it only late last season.

Considering all the time out, it's amazing how much he was able to tear it a new one when he did get on the park

If only... the beast could have been a great player ?

Not sure about great player, but when fit he is a good player and tough and we don't have a lot of them.

I reckon Misso must be trolling with this comment about preuss (my bolded bit)

Braydon Preuss | Shoulder – 1 week

He’s not quite there yet, so he’ll need another week. It was quite a significant injury and he did really well to get up for the St Kilda game, but playing in the second half under duress probably sent him backwards a little bit. We’re really confident he will be OK next week though.”

Wow, if Joel Smith does come back in 8 weeks that will be around 15 weeks off with the injury.

That’s alright Joel, go back on in a JLT and see if you can snag a sausage or 4.

It is bloody ridiculous.   Lingering groin issues can seriously impact a players career, and hes only young too.

As did GCS.  They demanded a top 5 ish pick because they knew they would get it this year as an FA comp pick when he left.

Ignoring his fitness and injury issues, without that FA comp pick there is no way he would have been valued a top 5 pick by clubs.  No other club could offer anything like it.  I reckon it would be more like mid teens pick at best.  We fell for it or were desperate or both.  Sure we needed a big defender but we surely over compensated GCS.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
