Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Came from Goodwin himself. I'm on my phone so I can't get the exact quote, but he said that the docs confirmed he won't miss Round 1.

Edit - @Redleg there is article on the MFC website about it.

Thanks that’s good news. He has become one of our better players.

Far out the incompetency of not keeping a hold over emergency 24th man for a preseason game. One of the Wagners or Tommy Sparrow had to play VFL and couldn't have been kept around for the 2nd half?

Both of these guys should've been on ice immediately. Smith sounds like very little chance of playing round 1 now.

Quote

Joel Smith – test

“Joel had a pretty significant groin injury in the game – he just landed in a marking contest and pulled up really sore. Because we were two down on the bench, unfortunately we had to keep Joel going. We played him deep forward which probably didn’t help his groin. He’s pulled up pretty sore, so we’ll have to assess him towards the end of the week about what his reloading plan is.”

Bayley Fritsch – available

"Bayley had a significant hip pointer in the game – he copped a whack right in that hip. Again, because we were two down on the bench, we needed to keep Bayley going, but he pulled up okay. He’ll do a little bit of running tomorrow probably, will still train on Friday and be in no doubt for round one."

Agree.

The result of wanting to get a specific amount of game time into a smaller number of players.

A risk that shouldn't have been taken and we're lucky one of our more important players wasn't injured.

David Misson – Injury Update

Jay Kennedy Harris – 12 weeks

“It was a significant knee hyperextension issue. Luckily, his ACL was okay, but he’s got pretty significant bone bruising on that knee. He’s probably 12 weeks before he’s back to play.”

James Harmes – one week

“He had a compound dislocation of that finger, which was operated on Saturday night. He’s looking really good, so we expect him to be running at the end of the week, back doing ball work and full training next week, and able to play in round one.”

Braydon Preuss – one week

“On the scan, it showed to be a minor adductor strain. He will be in rehab this week, but we’re looking to get him up to train next week and be available for round one.”

Aaron vandenBerg – available

“vanders has had foot ankle issues for most of his career. His standard recovery post-game is to really keep off his legs, so having Family Day on the Sunday, we thought in his interest it was better if he just stayed off his legs. He’s in no danger of missing round one.”

He’ll do a little bit of running tomorrow probably, will still train on Friday and be in no doubt for round one."

Nathan Jones, Jack Viney and Jake Melksham – available

“They all did really well. Jack got a corky (corked thigh) in his IT band, just above his knee – that’s why he’s walking around with a bit of strapping on. Nathan got a corky in the calf, but all of those guys will train on Friday and be available for round one. We’re pretty pleased with the minutes they got through and how they pulled up."

Bernie?

Bernie would make a great prop forward, running around in circles - however; we know he can kick 'em. He'd make the crowd smile, too.

I cant believe they kept Smith out there with a significant groin injury during a JLT. Someone needs their backside kicked. Ridiculous.

Totally agree. He's a weapon and a valuable one at that - no need to risk him on the excuse of 'bench availability'.

So agree with you DS. It beggars belief doesnt it? Im still really gobsmacked after reading it. Can you imagine that happening at collingwood or WC?  Oh what the hell,  its only Fritsch and Smith...doesnt really matter leave them out there. Had that been Viney or Jones or Tmac etc there is NO WAY they would have been left on. Play a man short if you have to. Lets hope its a storm in a teacup and he only misses a week or two.

By my calculations that makes it -

Bayley Fritsch (hip pointer) – available
Nathan Jones (hamstring/back tightness) — available
Jake Melksham (hamstring) – available
Aaron vandenBerg (foot/ankle) – available
Jack Viney (ankle) — available
Joel Smith (groin) – test
James Harmes (dislocated finger) – 1 week
Braydon Preuss (adductor strain) – 1 week
Tim Smith (calf) – 2 weeks
Kade Kolodjashnij (adductor) – 2 - 3 weeks
Jeff Garlett (shoulder) – 3 - 5 weeks
Mitch Hannan (knee) – 7 - 11 weeks
Jake Lever (knee) – 11 - 15 weeks
Jay Kennedy Harris (knee hyperextension) – 12 weeks
Guy Walker (shoulder) – TBA
Aaron Nietschke (knee) – season

Can someone explain what happened to Lever's prognosis being pushed out to another potential 15 weeks? Is it in the news or another thread somewhere? I thought he was due back around Round 5/6, with everything going swimmingly except for that minor recent scrape?

The adjusted timeframe came from this article after the Richmond JLT game.

So as most of us are aware, Lever didn't play in that game. How did his prognosis stretch out so dramatically without any other official word from the club? Could the 12 - 16 weeks be an error, or is there a secondary source?

He got frostbite of the pinky toes, needs a skin graft to heal them.

Any chance this is meant to read 2 to 6?

Is there some kind of magic potion down at the Holden Centre regarding ACL injuries?

Dunn suffered an ACL a month after Lever and he’s listed as 1-2 weeks away. From memory Goldsack recovered in less than 12 months also.

The difference is Dunn and Goldsack are old buggers who are nearly retired. They’ve probably pressured their club to come back as soon as possible as they don’t have much to lose.

On the flip side apparently the Pies are going ultra conservative on Matt Scharenberg.

We’re rightly taking our time with Lever. Isn’t he on a $1 million contract per year for 5?

Agree.  I'd much rather Lever take a few extra rounds, but be absolutely ready to go, than to rush him back a bit earlier and risk another injury.  He is a long term player for us, and we are treating the injury with that in mind.

And it's Lever's second ACL on the same knee.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
