Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Strange how anyone could have doubts because he came from Collingwood.

Perhaps it suggests that old tribal loyalties still run deep, yet that is juxtaposed against the way supporters quickly embrace players from other clubs.

Any other comments from his time at Pieland are just rumour.  There are often critics when a person leaves an orgnanization, sometimes simply justification from those remaining.

I think that it is remarkable that he lasted as long as he did at Pieland with Eddie.

Talking personally, it's not that I have any professional concerns with him in that capacity and I agree entirely with your remarks on him leaving etc, doesn't really bother me and I thought the way he addressed that question in his interview with Wheatly was very convincing  (as he was on most topics).

It's more that because he was with Collingwood for so long and along with Eddy often had a very public and parochial pro Collingwood, stuff the rest of the competition stance on things it takes a bit to get that out of your head.  It will be a bit different at Melbourne, because obviously we don't quite have the same power base as he had at Collingwood, but thinking about what I just stated, I'm somewhat looking forward to now having him on our side and for GP going in to bat hard for the MFC.

Suit yourself. The Filth were on their knees and in massive debt when Pert was bought in. They are now living in thebuilding we should have taken...

We the MFC need to grow into the club we always should have been.

Pert has the CV to do that

Were they?

From my recollection, Pert was brought in after Carlton poached Greg Swann. At that time Collingwood had just made the finals in 2006 and would go onto play a preliminary final in 2007. They were hardly on their knees.

What Pert did that was correct was  build on the success that had proceeded him and add to the infrastructure development that had started in 2003. Remember that in 2010/2011 that Collingwood was a bloody behemoth: on and off the field. They won games, they had 70k watching them every home game, they had a sparkling set of facilities in the CBD and contacts in the corporate world that would make a 'privileged' club like ours turn the color of Kermit the Frog's armpit. Not all of that can be explained away and a proportion of that should be attributed to him.

However, we shouldn't rewrite history either.

SWYL, I seem to recall you have a tv industry background.  Any interaction with Pert when he was MD of channel 9 in Melbourne?

@rpfc, you sound like an old melbournian upset at losing guaranteed board seats whenever you wanted them.  I’m happy those days are gone.  I personally think the board and Bartlett have been excellent.  He was spot on when he labelled MFC soft on and off the field in his first speech 5 years ago. MFC is no longer soft in either.  Everything done by MFC in the last 5 years has been about losing that soft gentlemen club tag, game style, list management, player trades.  I can’t imagine prior boards approving tough decisions like trading Watts.  For me the Pert appointment is just another decision where the soft option would have been an internal appointment.  Only time will tell if Pert delivers which will be almost entirely measured by delivering a facility in the MCG precinct, which he is uniquely qualified to do.

No Pert was only at GTV for a very short time. I think that is where he and Eddie met up, but it could have been Austereo as well.

Pert has run big organizations. That is what we need right now.

Josh Mahoney will be an excellent candidate in years to come. But he is very smart to keep learning right now.

His decision to give Goodwin a three year extension on the eve of the season is just another in the long list of erratic captain's calls that saw him sacked at the Pies.

I’m no fan of Pert yet..but that’s a harsh call. Goody fully deserved that extension and I’m 100% glad he got it.

Why did we need to give him a four year deal? What was the rush?

Extended for three to make four. I agree he shou;dn't be in any danger yet, but what say we finish bottom four? And start next year the same way? The club can't afford to pay him out. Our financial position is built on six careful years of the Jackson administration slowly building modest profits. Talk of 70k is ludicrous, let alone the 50 they wanted this year. We have only reached 45 and that's coming off a prelim.

How many coaches must this club go through?  Goody is the best we have had in years.  He needs some help because Chaplin is woeful.  The players must take responsibility.

Would it have hurt to wait until round 6 to give him an extension? Because right now we look pretty ordinary.

Also unless Pert is doing a Schwabb and getting involved in football matters, his job has zero to do with our appalling form. He ain’t playing FB last time I checked.

Is Pert the latest Trojan Magpie tactically sent from the underground labrotary at Vic Park to destabilize the MFC (akin to previous agent MICKMALT2012)?!?

Probably not, we are just massively underprepared for this season.

No. In fact common sense my have dictated such. Wait a minute..common sense, silly me.

Mr G wasn't going anywhere as such and a clever operator would have kept his powder dry.

No overly impressed with this Pert. Seems to eager to rush things...good recipe for f#@&ing things up often.

Yes Jaded, pretty ordinary ..and seemingly by design :(

In seriousness I don't see our problems having anything to do with Pert. We're simoly in poor form.

I'm happy the club has backed in Goodwin and the challenges the team is experiencing will make us better. Both Hardwick and Buckley coaches sides were underperforming and under enormous pressure but their coubs backes them in and Richmond wone a premiership while Collingwood played in one last year amd looking the goods 3 rounds in.

Be patient fellow Demons.

No not directly.

It was Pert who signed ( re-signed ) Goodwin with unnecessary haste.

You could have Jesus and his old man in the backline, still wouldn’t make a difference if the head coach keeps on insisting on playing turtles on the wing.

Best piece of advice in this Demonland this season.

Pert clearly has the ability and is in the job fir the right reasons.

And again don't go crazy because he had ideas and plans.

That's  what he is an empire  builder and like Rome it all takes time even our onfield  woes are not overnight changing (thought our best footy by far in 2019 and our attacking style with Clarry Gus and Trac leading the way last night yes defence terrible at times).

But to say the footy results and form are Perty 's fsult is simply scapegoating scandiously. Ops and  limited pre season fitness are one reason and form another and the coaches failure to move with the times and change some of our game plans are reasons for 0-3.

If we can sneak Saints and Swans then Anzac Eve is HUGE vs underdone and Tigers starting to doubt their depth and Club culture and game brand.

From all reports he was getting involved in footy matters at Collingwood and was very decisive.

Look, I understand the frustration given a 0-3 start. But let's be honest here, the CEO should be assessed based on off field performance more than on field. Coaching is up in the air, and yes, he has a hand in that part of the business. But from the outside looking in the club has record membership numbers, good sponsors and minimal off field issues since he has taken over.

Can’t agree with this. We’ve had a revolving door of coaches in recent history and some continuity in this area was always needed. Goody is a good coach although I’m worried about his selection of a defensive coach at this stage. Goody can’t stop players fumbling the ball and making wildly poor decisions. At some point it simply comes down to the players.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
