He is just-a-boy,  between his Ears. 

I hope he is not still living at home, and leaning on Mum for everything... like my Italian mates did to they're mum's.

I think the player he should be aspiring to be is Jordan De Goey.

We have plenty of blokes we can shuffle through the midfield on a longer term basis than Tracc. I would love for him to be that mid sized forward who can tear a game apart with a sustained ten minute burst of magic. 

That's not to say he needs to only try for ten minutes. He should give it all the entire game but the forward line presents less chances to a bloke in his position.

I think Petracca is judged very harshly and is the victim of media hype and supporter expectation.

24 disposals, a goal and 3 tackles a game plus making the AFLPA best 22 Under 22 team - all in a supposedly average season that saw him hospitalised with blood poisoning...

 

At 22, he's still years off his peak and when compared to a player like Dustin Martin, his statistical output at this stage of their respective careers is comparable.

 

I think he'd find life a lot easier on the field if he was able to shed 5kg, but while at times he looks laid back, he's never struck me as a 'lazy'.

I have been saying for the last couple of years that he needs to get fit and lose kgs.

He has done that in small doses. I think another 2 kgs will do the job.

His efforts this season was much improved, had his kicking improved we could have won more games.

Kicking under pressure is something the whole team needs to improve on.

it truly blows my mind. he had a very solid season and because he didn't kick 50 goals people see it as a failure.

I agree with above. Watching the 2 mcg finals we saw trac exude class and make serious impacts. Not for full games but his huge upside was on display. Key mid size forward is his future and best value

He averaged 20 disposals per game and kicked 19 goals from his 24 games.  Player rating 79.

At the same age Martin averaged 24 disposals and kicked 23 goals from his 23 games.  Player rating 95.

Petracca is tracking well.  He did about what I thought in 2018.  I reckon he'll elevate his game next year.

That said, the incremental improvement has been slower than I expected.  I thought he'd be at de Goey's level by 2018.  But I'm a big fan and think he's only at about 60% of what he'll become.

Massive fan and has caused me to throw things at the TV. In saying this, I believe the step up of Harmes and Brayshaw will drive him. I think this will be the year we see what he can do.

Good one, Colin. Exactly what we need from him - he was never going to be an endurance player, but moreso a cut and thrust machine who can kick, mark, receive, give accurately, hit the scoreline, unsettle, instil havoc in an opposition after going in and getting the ball. He still needs to be far fitter and be a V8 version of the player he has been - and this is the year.

Look closer TPF39.

You will notice his inconsistency, and when he goes spectating.  He goes off mentally, a few times each game... and looks on, instead of thinking of getting involved again... this is a byproduct of being self-satisfied, at some level in his makeup.  He has to become hungrier to do this.

 

Too casual, just alike Jack Watts was.   This is why Petracca should not be on out mast head at this point, until he grows more mature and becomes more a leader, within the team.

 

He gets his accolades delivered to him in bed... to easy for him to feel satisfied with his lot.

 

This is how we (Demons) ruin our stars,  and our lesser players become our better players.  simply we spoil our stars... and they become stilted in their developments.

That's funny praha...   I don't care if he doesn't kick a goal.

 

I want to see him busting contests open with his brute strength, and powering through tackles and away from the packs.... to open the games up for the team...  he can supply the ball to our other players.

Him kicking one goal, to me is a bonus.

 

I want to see him become a Timmy Watson type R/R. 

He has the size, the explosiveness, and the speed off the mark, BUT he's lacking the WILL.  just as Watts'y did... 

I don't want to see him waste it away, just as the former did.

The player comparison with De Goey is a strange one for me

He’s always going to be that fwd-mid combo player who gets between 20-27 possessions, 4-8 marks, 1-3 goals, and 3-5 tackles a game

I’d much rather that if that’s the base from which he can build that the inconsistency of a Sylvia for instance, who could get anywhere from 10-40 possessions, 1-10 marks, 1-6 goals, and 0-8 tackles a game

Consistency in performance at this stage of his career is key in terms of him becoming the player we want him to be

Petracca's issues are nothing more than:

1) He has / had no tank. Picture Jack Ziebell with loads more talent. It took North years to get Ziebell to run out a game. It's not an effing attitude issue. He's just building a tank - very slowly because that's his dna.  He works incredibly hard but he'll never be an ANB on the track. 

2) He had the goal kicking yips in 2018  Last year was a different picture IMO

If Sylvia was entering his AFL career in the past coupe of years under Roosy, and this current setup we have now... he would be a far different player than what he was for us earlier.

He would have developed in a far different way and environment.

A little bit,,, just a little bit less love and affection & gushing over him, and a lot more 'incognito', will aid petracca's development. 

 

He should have to fight to get his attention/affection.  He gets it hand delivered, just as Sylv did as well.  And it''s not helping him, this way.

I was really disappointed in his prelim.

i know most of our blokes were down that day, but it would’ve been great for his development as potential champion of the game if he was one of the rare players to step up under adversity. But alas he was probably in our bottom 5 vs WC.

However, He did some lovely things the week before vs Hawthorn.
