Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - COREY WAGNER

@Nick_Bowen Former Kangaroo small forward Corey Wagner expected to get to Melbourne under new pre-season selection rule

I didn't see much of Corey this year but the Casey Demons have mentioned he's been a good player down there. I know some of his games he was winning big numbers in the midfield.

Outside midfielder who has a big motor and can see him slotting in well on the wing position.

Corey Wagner is a very good inclusion to our list as IMO is better than an average player and that is what we need . Adding players that   can make the grade and make us a better team with very good depth. The Roos  delisted him in 2017 which was a surprise delisting.

Will be depth at best.

If either of the Wagner's jump in to our 22, it will mean some players have gone significantly backwards, and I will worry about our finals chances, let alone a flag chance.

Or... one of the Wagners has gone significantly forwards...

Good stuff. Played some pretty amazing games for Casey this year that made me think that North should never have delisted him. Glad he's getting another shot at it.

Totally agree, injury riddled time at Roos, reckon we said have a year or 2 at Casey and we will have a close look

Already knows game plan and systems

Tend to agree, although I think Tyson's spot is there for the taking. One of Kolodjashnij or Hunt could step straight in, but Wagner could keep them honest.  Probably better suited to that role than Tyson in a direct comparison.

I'm happy with that, important to have the depth with his type. Was likely to get drafted so it's a good swift move.

Agree, we haven't really been tested too much injury wise over the past two seasons.  The one period when we really were around the mid way point of 2017 when we lost Jones, Viney eventually  (probably playing when he shouldn't have), one or two others and our season really slumped at that point.  With good depth we can rest more players when they really need it and even those one or two extra wins that it might win us in a season could be the difference between finishing 4th instead of 6th etc.

Happy we've taken advantage of this rule, sounds like he was great at Casey and was a pretty high pick in his draft so must have some talent there.

Agreed, but it does concern me that all these delisted free agent type signings are creating a backdoor to bypass the draft.  Are their salery and football department type caps in the state leagues?

It's good that we have been able to capitalise on this opportunity, but in the long run, I worry that the wealthy clubs of the AFL will be able to afford to support more of the better players remaining at state league level in order to later cherry pick the best ones at the expense of clubs like the MFC.

A player for free effectively. We would have drafted him late but now we get for nothing. Could flourish and become a decent player, if not, nothing lost!

As a bigger picture strategy, by giving opportunities to players who show great Casey form to get on our AFL list we are going to encourage higher quality players to come to Casey and benefit from our MFC/Casey development and structures. It will be interesting to see what happens with Jay Lockhart in this year's draft.

The state leagues certainly have salary caps. Not sure how it works for AFL sides. I will say that I don't think AFL teams are going to load up with delisted players in their reserves. Aside from the expense it takes away development opportunities for your own young players.

I think this rule favours the WA and SA teams more than anyone else. They have strong local leagues to watch a number of delisted and undrafted players in and can then offer them a second chance without needing to relocate. The VFL isn't 5 times stronger than the SANFL/WAFL, nor is the NEAFL as strong as those leagues.

Still, it will more be about opportunity. Brooksby the ruckman is off to West Coast because they have an opportunity greater than what other teams can offer. As far as I can tell he has no links to Perth or the Eagles, he's just going to a team that wants him.

Interesting photo.

In the Casey GF, one tried his guts out all game and the other had a magnificent one possession after quarter time and looked like he couldn't give a rat's. If not for the pathetic game by the Casey captain, he would have been WOG, worst on the ground.

Sad fall from grace.

Looks to have one year left to try and keep his AFL career.

I'd prefer to reserve my judgement on any player like Corey and give them a chance without making instant prognostications. A few years ago we might have said that about James Harmes and Neville Jetta.,

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
