Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks for the PJ interview. It was very insightful, a great look from inside the tent from an management point of view. I thought he was very open with his answers, the bit about the Geelong prelim and how we out sold the Tigers in the first 30 minutes of ticket sales opening, and that he was going to the game knowing the crowd was going to be pro Melbourne.

Didn’t think Pert got a tick and it was the only time he bristled.

Sounds like he will be following the Dee’s.

Enjoyed the discussion about the clubs trading as well.

What a day. Well done.

Agree, he was a bit different in his response to the Pert appointment.

Yeah, but I don't think you can take that as anything against Pert.  I read it as more that he knew it was an issue that has generated adverse media discussion and was wary of how he answered it for not wanting to generate a headline either way.  Also pehaps some frustration and annoyance at being asked the question again.

Thought it was just a vanilla and typical straight bat defensive return to the bowler type of response.  Seriously what did people expect him to say?

Fantastic chat again last night.  Thanks guys!.  I loved the interview with PJ, but was intrigued (maybe even slightly concerned) by his response to the Garry Pert question.  Very guarded (even a little 'uneasy') I thought.  Only time will tell whether Pert is the right choice for our next phase, I guess.

Yes, but I think it would have been more reassuring had he given a firm, confident and enthusiastic endorsement of Pert given all the adverse media discussion. The guarded and almost uneasy response suggests that perhaps there is some truth in the discussion, which I think there is...

But, time will tell whether Pert is fit for the job and we can only hope that he is.

Agree to a point.  I think he was being somewhat gaurded, because he wasn't part of the process to select him, perhaps didn't believe it was his role to be part of that process and thus he didn't want to be seen to responsible for Pert's performance to be associated with the PJ legacy.  Who knows, maybe there was some animosity regarding the selection between PJ and the board regarding the selection or PJ not being taken by suprise with a lack of notice from the board before it was publicly anouced to the media.  Key thing is that our board and PJ are tight enough and big enough team players that they are not going to air their dirty laundry out for all to see if ever there was actually an issue worth writing about and that it wasn't big enough for PJ to sour his affection of the club as the rest of the interview showed that he was still clearly invested in our sucess without him being there.

PJ did give some limited endorsement i.e. something along the lines of Pert having a track record at a successful footy club before, was selected by our board and that we can trust that the board went through a process to get to that decision.

No doubt this issue will cause lingering media interest and be refered back to when ever things look like they are not going so well at the MFC, just like the suposed pre season camp issue caused a huge rift with the coach and playing group in the eyes of the media to speculate on.  Seriously some of these media types should report for trashy celebrity gosip publications like Woman's Weekly, New Idea, Who magazine or something and not for the football sections of credible media outlets.

PJ did provide a soundbite that could get the media and footy comunity talking:

"GWS - no one cares about them because they are from Western Sydney"

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Get writing Caro, Barret and Co.

A straight shooter is PJ.

You also mentioned in your previous post about his legacy. One thing that’s would be for certain is that he would not want it to come undone after the tireless work he and Roos et al put into the club.

Very much doubt it will, but it’s always on your mind especially when you have just left.

I'm only part of the way through (great interview by the way), but Jackson's lack of support for Pert was damning.

Fairly clear that Jackson was not involved in the selection process or consulted prior to the appointment and announcement.

This was obviously deliberate by Bartlett and the Board, but in my view, a mistake.

At very least, Jackson should have been asked for his view.

Jackson is obviously a good judge of character, meticulous in his approach on all things and has been the mastermind of Melbourne's footy operations rebuild.

Talking to Collingwood people there is a mixed view about Pert, and some have suggested that his style could be divisive. My way or the highway. He is said to have a healthy ego. This could not be said of Jackson. Perhaps a reason that Jackson may be less than enthusiastic.

Time will tell.

Excellent interview and full year’s podcasting, congrats to you Andy and Grapeviney. I’ve really enjoyed listening, and to your regular contributors, Supermercado, binman, Nasher, particularly after wins of course, although your calm and reason after losses is admirably well measured. Should be compulsory listening for all the knee-jerkers and doomsdayers of us out there who tend to let emotion cloud the senses. Looking forward to next year.

There were many times after losses that I really didn't want to front up on a Wednesday night.

Thanks for everyone's kind words about the interview and the show throughout the year.

The Demonland Podcast will return after the Draft. Hopefully we can get either Jason Taylor again or someone else to get their thoughts behind the picks.

When PJ was CEO of Essendrug and Pert was CEO of the Filth i am sure they locked horns on numerous occasions

PJ wasn’t going to give him any “credit” but that doesn’t mean Pert doesn’t know the job...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
