Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not at all.  Quid pro quo.

Bennell gets to train at a club he would like to end up with (for at least $1k per week) and we get to try before we buy.

Personally i would think both parties have already settled on an in-principal signing and contract terms post a 'lead up trial period/assessment' over a few weeks ie; from 1st Dec through till whenever that is, for want of an official date lets say it's end of Dec per Leoncelli36's mail.

Oh I'm not at all unhappy about the try before you buy scenario, I think we've actually got ourselves into a no lose situation with this to be honest.

What I was referring to was that the rules of the off-season prohibit him from training with a club prior to a certain date even if the club and player have already agreed to the terms of the rookie category he'll be on.

Please let his calves hold together over pre-season....

What about the neural adhesions?

Can you add that in your prayer too?

If not we will probably retrain him to walk and run backwards, with Babo's help.  Then we might get him over the line.

I haven't followed this carefully, so I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me what 'evil' the rule is meant to prevent?

The rule is designed to ensure fan discussion and media speculation on players in the cricket season, so that the AFL is front and centre year round.

It has nothing to do with the efficient running of a sporting competition.

Yeah, just look at how Dustin Martin dragged the Tigers down with him and his poor culture.

That's one example though. And I would say that's an example of how strong the culture of the Richmond FC is already.

How would you rate the Fremantle football club though? Why do you think Lachie Neale was so desperate to get out and go to Brisbane? I have a family member that works in the media in WA and the culture at Freo became a mess under Lyon. Too many bad characters.

I reckon it'd be worth asking Freo fans if they think it was worth it.

I see what your saying, and am not disagreeing at all.  Our predicament (building a slow list) has forced us to look where others fear to tread; and we have no choice but to gamble.

What I would add is that there are many 'finger-pointers' with good reputations that I think don't necessarily add to culture either.  Lewis, and Melksham were serial offenders.  Clarry's go at Fritsch may have been isolated, but he learnt from the best.

Roos' no-DH policy might have won him a flag at Sydney, but it might of cost Melbourne Toby Green for a "packet of chips".

Culture just isn't about getting guys in that are good solid citizens.  Did Lewis really buy into the red and blue?  I doubt it.  It was Hawthorn, Roughy, Buddy, daylight, then Melbourne.  With Melky, it is Melky, Melky, Melky, daylight, then Melbourne.

With Frost, I saw a guy bleed for the jumper.

Just reading it from afar; but that is my perception.

Definitely a fair point TGR. We need to being bold with improving the club.

I guess I would argue that there's nothing wrong with bringing in fierce competitors that toe the line, like Melky, Lewis and co. But Bennell hasn't shown anything so far that suggests he cares enough about footy. Maybe he's turned a corner? I really hope so and if he does join then I'll be crossing my fingers.

These assumptions frustrate me - purely from an employment perspective - why would a club (Melbourne or other) entertain employing someone if they don't care... he clearly cares.

I don't know whether mental issues is the right wording but he's had a history of poor judgement with partying and alcohol. I'd also be willing to bet he'd be on a strike for illicit drugs given his history. But what has changed now is that he has a partner and a child with her that seems to be a very stabalising influence, plus he knows this might well be his last chance to resurrect his career so motivation wise it's all there in front of him.

No different to about half the comp then

But Mike, we aren’t discussing the toxic culture in the West are we?

I suppose the subtext of my comment was that Bennell and Murray are not likely to drag the club down, but may well take the opportunity thrown at them in the form of a lifeline from the MFC, and finally concentrate on their football.

I think that May, Jones, Gawn, Hibberd, Lever, Jetta, Viney etc make a pretty good support group, not to mention the coaching and fitness people. I like to think it’s a win/win situation.. the club gains two very talented players, and two very talented players are given one last chance to prove themselves.

There's also a lot of frontal lobe development occurs in young men between the age of 18 and 27. And a lot of positive influence from a good woman.

Yeah I'm sure the club has done it's due diligence and I guess that's the point of him training with the club to prove himself. I just think he has a checkered past and has had a few chances already at the age of 27. I hope as much as any other Dees fan that he comes good. Fingers crossed.

I don't think any organisation is immune honestly. We've only just come good after the work done by Jackson, Roos etc so I think it's just a case of being fresh in the mind where we've come from. I think you're right though in that we have good leaders so hopefully it works out well and we can turn this into a real coup.

Will he be on the park for 2020, Round 1?

If so, this could be a crackin' pick up.

Feel like a fit 22, we have the mold of a top 8 team. If Weeds (a player I believe will be a gun) and big Macca are fit, we could look to a top 4.

2019 was just one crap year and those thinking we are miles off I believe are wrong. We have the right people now, a good draw, a mix of experience and youth and if Bennell is fit, we just pick up a guy that a few years back was going to be elite.

So back to question, will he be set to go.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
