Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Many on here said the same thing about Howe, then we go and pay the world for an inferior replacement in Lever.

Why scrape this up again?  The bloke wanted to leave!  Got nothing to do with anything to do with Frost.

BTW:  Lever is not and will not be an ‘inferior replacement’, except in the mark of the year stakes.

BTW2:  Frost?  Oh the hawks player!  Let it go, man.

This year's pick 8 might be a top 4 pick next year.

The only speed we have brought in, assuming Bennell comes in, is really just a bit of a gamble.

Frost out, and gamble in....

I can't see how our outside speed is going to be transformed as a result....unless pick 3 and 8 are jets that are ready to go....which I doubt.

Plain miserable I must be.

As for the others, hey, we are MFC supporters.  We over-celebrate/congratulate mediocrity; dismiss/excuse failure; reflect on brief success as halcyon days.....

And that's why it is time to block you

You seem to forget that it was the MFC that correctly assessed that Howe was a backman, and not a forward, where Howe wanted to play. The black and white offered him a forward role and he left. He has bloomed in the role we wanted for him, proving our initial assessment.

And while I wish Frosty every success at the brown and yellow, I think our decision will also be proven to be the correct one for our team.

I think the Club has agreed with your assessment of our medicos, and has made significant changes in that department accordingly.

However I fail to see where any of your last 2 or 3 comments has anything to do with  the Harley Bennell thread.

Just a serious glimpse into what this man is capable of if he gets his body right.

Recall watching this game like it was yesterday.

"6th game of the year after having calf issues with both legs"

Wow he has had the issue since he came into the AFL.   Burgess might need to pull of a miracle to get Harley on the park.

He might, but just think if he can keep Bennell on the park?

Howe always intended to join his boyhood team TGR.  People tend to gravitate to the place they most want to be and it has been said he wasn't all that happy towards his end days at the MFC.

I doubt we could have kept him other than on a fairly big overs contract.

For me it's a no brainer.

He'll be relatively cheap and with lists of approx. 44 what's the downside if he doesn't pan out ?

His talent is undeniable.  37 disposals and 4 goals against us at the G was evidence of a very special player.  He's a better talent than Geelong's recently departed Tim Kelly.

If you can't take a risk when you haven't won a flag in over 50 years when can you ?

I'll live very comfortably if he came to the Dees and never played a game.

Btw, I can share that Goodwin and co. are very bullish about 2020.  They're aiming for top 4 and think they can win it - (courtesy of a lunch between Goodwin and well-heeled Demons supporters).

Naturally, the usual rebarbative posters will bloviate their inanities at such a suggestion.

It was a very long lunch, I assume, Pro Dee

When will people remember that most of the reason Howe left was because we were playing him back, when he wanted to play forward?

He was never going to be happy with us. And the way that people blather about how Buckley ‘discovered’ Howe as a defender is ludicrous.

and finally, if you remembered correctly, you’d remember that Howe took a lot of speccies in defence for us and not a lot else - he was nowhere near the player Collingwood have turned him into.

Exactly.

Without injury, he would walk into any midfield in the AFL, but what he provides our midfield, if he can stay on the park, will make our midfield the most feared in the competition. That's before we add two top 10 draft picks (hopefully players with an ability to roll through there too). The modern game is about midfield depth.

Things are getting exciting again if Bennell is over the line.

You’re usually pretty unflappable and balanced, but I can see you getting carried away here.

West Coast has us well and truly covered. Collingwood and Richmond too I’d argue.

Frost will smash it at Hawthorn.  Clarkson has got a beauty for next to nothing.  When 'all is said and done' and Frost proves his worth, and the stupidity of the decision, the sycophants will yell "move on, that was history".

Jordan Lewis targetting for me was the snowflake of a decision that started an avalanche.  Most here have blind faith in our decision-makers and medical staff.  I don't, not for a minute.

unless Frost can run up and place the ball in his teammates hands, he will have to kick or handball at some stage. Which often doesn't quite hit the target stifling momentum as they re-gather the footy, or just kicks a howler or two resulting in easy goals.

Clarkson is slowly assembling a far less skilled disposal side, which makes it difficult to maintain possession. frost will have good runs of game for sure but even those will be peppered with atrocious mistakes.

This is Frost. He  does the difficult exceptionally well and the basics exceedingly poorly.

So we don't know yet if operation fixed problem?

He only had the final one a month ago. Would assume they've got the medical scans of the difference post-surgery, but being that recent I guess the rehab hasn't got to the point of running just yet.

Haha, probably, but it is the silly season.

I certainly think if Brayshaw and Harmes can rediscover their 2018 form; Petracca convert his forward form into midfield form and use his explosiveness and x factor to win stoppages and kick goals from the midfield; Oliver continue to improve, but we know we get consistent ball winning from him; Viney gets a proper run at it without being plagued by injury; Langdon and Tomlinson's running power; and adding Bennell - it's a midfield that finally has everything, if, and I say 'if', Bennell can get on the field. Salem and even Jones can roll through there too.

I'd say we at least match West Coast and could compete with Collingwood. Richmond's midfield is good, but not as deep as Collingwood's, nor does their team rely on the midfield. They're all about pressure systems and ball movement.

Melbourne lead the race for Harley Bennell

From the article:

'Bennell on Wednesday met with the Demons, who put on the full court press in showing him the opportunity in front of him as a half forward at Melbourne.

He could see himself fitting in at the club, and felt comfortable after speaking to former teammate May about his prospects.

At Melbourne he would also be close to former teammates Dion Prestia and Tom Lynch only a few hundred metres down the road at Punt Road.'

Great highlights Dazzler. What stood out for me is how smoothly he moves but most of all how beautiful his kicking is. Perfect technique and arrow straight.

Interesting that in that clip most of the footage was of him as half forward, which is where the article suggests he might play with us. Which would make sense given it fills a need and he will take some time to get to his previous fitness (if he ever can).

Oh and on that clip, had to laugh with the final comment from Derwayne - "forget the icing on the cake, that is the caviar'.

What?

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
