Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And despite what some are saying Re our deficiency of outside runners and somewhat glut of bulls, I don't think we could have too many bulls.  Thinking of the way the Brisbane Lions use to bully teams into submission and that's where we are heading.  Of course we need some good outside runners as well, but they are more so competing with the likes of Hannan, Freitch, Lewis, Spargo, Tyson and Co moving forward.

As an observation a ll players that I’ve been in contact with, know the commercial reality - they rarely speak of it as a brotherhood or all my mates - even the 18yo speak in terms of working in the organisation they are currently employed at.

There is a generational shift in how they perceive the afl football landscape and understand that everyone and  anyone can be gone and change clubs in this time for trades. To them it is merely a job...  it’s hard to be passionate about your own job day in day out right? It’s no different for them.

Its us supporters that still hold on to notions of tearing the fabric apart (yes not your words), when players leave.

Quite depressing, the shift and change in the concepts of club and team loyalties. The mobile phone accoutrements generation certainly possess a different short, medium and longer-term outlook on method, means and entitlement. At the same time, the importance of sustainable values and objectives is brushed aside for the quick fix of the very few, and in reality, a measurable none. However, good luck to them. Football has improved but it does now flash continuous and impending warning signs that does not lead to a great deal of positive change - it leads to a dissolution of some appreciative stability. The fans agglutinate not for the game but for the tribal rites. For the players, a key focus is definitely on the rights of passage.

I think one year is a smart move

At times, long deals can lead to complacency

I'm empathetic to his personal situation (based on what's been reported), but the club has a responsibility to maintain the bigger picture

1 year quite stingy, 2 years more appropriate

The guy has played 6-8 games in 2.5 seasons and has never got through a full preseason. Let’s offer a 26 year old with leas than 50 games experiences in the 20-26th spot on our list 2 years based on this because we owe him more than he owes us. He should stay based on us backing him over that time unless his ability to support his broader family makes this untenable. If his body and form holds up he should back himself to get another 2 years.

After watching the Casey's final quarter in the VFL last Sunday, I put a big question mark over our depth going into 2019. I would hate to lose Vanders and believe that we are a better side with him than not. It will be 9 players gone from the list if he and Hogan go. Will make it a pretty interesting and crucial trade period for us in the coming months.

I looked at Casey and wondered where our development would come from. Really no players that will develop and break into best 22 only depth.

Frits back in and not much else at Casey and then Lever of course.

That shows the need for changing the list.

That's why the list turnover 'big'...it was time to move a few on.

Incredible that you defended a half arsed Jack Watts for 7 years, yet you are making a call on a teenage kpd after 1 senior game.

Cool.

Our depth mix is pretty good really. Lots of 'kids' who have pushed claims early in their career as well as a collection of players who have been in and out due to injury or fluctating progress. Hmm... if both Kent and VandenBerg leave, that would make our 'players picked 18th to 25th' something like;

Smith, Stretch, Hunt, JKH, Fritsch, Spargo, and Hannan.

Plus whatever becomes of the likes of Wagner, Petty, Baker, dare I mention Garlett, and about 6 draftees.

Given that we have a great core of strong bodies to hit the contest with, there are good opportunities for young players to come in and contribute without getting monstered.

Yikes... imagine the horror times Spargo would've had if he'd been added to our 2011 or even 2014 list?

All that said, VandenBerg is a strong, smart footballer who has once again shown he belongs at AFL level when his body lets him, and it would be disappointing to lose him.

Agree and if he wants to move back closer to family to assist in running the business then we should assist as long as we get what we want. I have no issues with those that are looking elsewhere. Except for Hogan the others are bottom 6 players or VFL at best. Certainly looks like we are clearing the decks for some serious trade action. Can't wait.

Don't forget posters the nucleas of our side from Prelim game are still there!.

Yes that great preliminary final team.

An 18 year old key position defender coming off an injury at his first year of AFL without a full pre season.

Gee hard marker. He will be a fair player on what I have seen.

Couldnt agree more.

As usual fans are massively over hyping a player thats given very little & rarely makes it onto the park.If he played for Carlton/Ess etc we would all be saying a 4th rounder at best as hes only a list filler & will never be top 15 of a club thats a consistent top 8 club.He fits in when injuries & suspensions arrise. He may have helped raise the bottom quarter of our list originally but if we want to be a better club he fits in nowhere

Petty and Keilty both played well in our losing GF. There is also Hunt who played VFL and Baker who was injured. There is some talent for our FD to nurture!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
