Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think so too. Jordy is just about done. And Jones will be the following year.

Jones' problem is he won't get a game at half back with Hibberd and KK there, and IMO he's not good enough to play on a wing either. I'd have Fritsch and Harmes in front of him.

And before some people tell me I've got my blinkers on again, tell me where Jones plays next year. He certainly plays when we have injuries in the midfield, but at full strength, he's not there.

I agree on Jones too.  I want to see him win a flag and get to 300 games.  I reckon we have to win it in 2019 otherwise he won’t be a part of it. 300 games could also be a bridge too far.

Finished 4th in the 2018 B&F in a great year for the club.  Clearly the FD still rate him.  Explain that to me?

One injury to the starting midfield of Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes and he's straight in there.

He has challenges ahead to adapt to a new role on the wing and probably half-forward but he's too good not to be in the 22.  He's be in any club's best 22.  The FD will find a way to use his talents and he'll need to rise to the challenge of adapting to his new role.

If he can adapt to a new role there's no reason he can't play 2-3 more years - he has been incredibly durable.

That is what I said.

I don't think he'd be amongst the centre mids unless two or more were injured.

So he plays if there are injuries...

He has been durable, absolutely. But the cliff comes quickly and there were certainly signs this year that he struggled to adapt to a new position.

You're absolutely right that the FD clearly still rates him, because he's a consistent performer. The problem is our kids have gone past him and he's now become a make-shift wingman, which, like Tyson, doesn't suit him. I'm not convinced he can play half forward either, otherwise we'd have probably tried him there already, which we've resisted. It'll be interesting to see where they look to play him in 2019. No doubt, we'll get some sense as pre season gets under way.

But I hope we treat him carefully for cultural reasons, because as MFC supporters, we know what a slippery slope that can be. I will say though that if we're challenging for a flag in 2020, I can't see Jones being a major part of that challenge.

It'd be a coup for loyalty though if he was there to lift the cup.

I agree @Fifty-5.  The ball is in Jones' court.

He's been pushed out of the midfield, so his challenge is to show his worth in a new role.

He's safe for 2019.  Beyond that I'm not so sure.  But it's up to him.

I have watched 3 entire games that KK played in this year and to be honest remain completely clueless as to what we think he brings to the team.

I know this years form may not represent his “potential” and I haven’t really seen much of his best year when he was runner up in their B&F other than a few highlights but I’m really not convinced he is the right fit. I really hope I’m wrong and do have confidence in our FD these days to make good choices but this feels like another Harley Balic potentially

I wish him all the best and hope he can turn his football career around quickly

I watches 1 match that he played in this year and had trouble finding him on the field. So yes at present Baltic and Viv Michie both come to mind. I wish the lad well but I’m a bit pessimistic.

Now let’s look at it. You have seen him play a game and Sydee 3 and you both are a bit concerned.

Our recruiting guys have probably watched him play as a junior and then over his years with GC, spoken to him, his family and coaches and decided he would be a good fit for our list.

I am comfortable with the FD decision, unless and until they are proved wrong with KK. I have a feeling they won’t be.

Let's not sugar coat it. He was a steak knives part of the May trade for a reason.

I wouldn't be judging his ability based on any games he played this year. The last two seasons have been pretty much written off by concussion concerns.

His junoir years and first few years at the Sun's were good and he showed his elite disposal and decision making skills.

He would have been very frustrating as a fan as he would show patches of great play and then could go completely missing for large periods of games. He often struggles to get the ball but when he does he can use it extremely well.

We will be hoping that he can get his confidence back or he won't get anywhere. He has been in the system for 5 seasons now and will be reaching his prime physically.

He had the skills we want and plays in a position we lack depth in. He cost us very little and in my opinion is a great pickup for us.

It's similar to the Dean Kent trade for the saints. They knew that they could get him cheap as chips and if he gets a good run with injury, his form and ability will far exceed the price they paid. It will be a bargain. If not.. well they gave up bugger all for him so no big loss. Kade is the same for us. If he puts it all together in a good environment then we could have an excellent player for very little.

Sadly for the Saints, they didn't get an elite gorilla tamer with Kent as part of the deal.

And they also signed Kent on a 4 year deal. Not really an apt comparison at all.

I suppose I’ve seen it a little too often, the “we got this bloke for peanuts but he’s really good”. However the FD made the decision and I hope it will be the correct one.

How could you possibly compare KK to Balic, the guy played 4 games of AFL footy.

KK came second in a BnF in 2015 and has a great amount more upside in his game. Your confidence and form drains in a unsuccessful environment and weak culture.

He will thrive in a winning environment and strong club culture.

The difference between Kolodjashnij and the Viv Michies of this world is that Kolodjasnij was a genuine top 10 talent.  At 190cm with good speed and a lovely left foot kick there are already AFL attributes for a club with good development to work with.

Judging Kolodjashnij on any output in 2018 on the back of concussion issues and the demotivating workplace that was the Gold Coast Suns isn't the smartest reasoning.  The fact that he came second in the 2015 B&F behind Ablett in just his second year shows his high level talent.

His Brother, who wasn't considered to be as talented as him and went at a pick in the 40s, just finished 8th in Geelong's B&F.

I reckon Kolodjashnij is a great get by the club and I'm very confident he can become an important player.

Even if Kolodjashnij turns out to be Viv Michie reincarnated, so what? The risk is super low but for the reasons outlined by ProDee above, the potential upside is enormous.

The only thing at stake is the emotional well-being of fans who can’t cope with their own disappointment. I’m prepared to back him in; I think he will prove to be a great pick-up. If I’m wrong, oh well.

This is sweating the small stuff.

2015 is a hell of a long time in AFL just look at our list turnover during that time if you need any further proof

btw balic had the benefit of the same winning environment and it meant nothing in terms of him making a go of his chance

I am not saying he’s a completely without hope however on the 3 games I was bothered to watch he looked underwhelming and can’t really see why some people are suggesting he’s the answer to our prayers for skilful outside run on the wing

Sorry to be the voice of reason and not blindly optimistic

Interesting I just read that Rodney Eade said he played KK out of position on a wing and his best position was HBF

I wonder where that leaves Jordan Lewis ? I would have Hibberd on HBF over anyone else so it’s getting very crowded back there

IMVHO Jordan will be “depth” by mid season 2019.

I don't think you can claim the high ground as "voice of reason" on viewing 3 games from a kid with concussion problems.

I've seen enough of his early football (a lot more than 3 games) to know he can play.

Not being blindly optimistic as the voice of reason I will say if he is over his injury concerns he's a great pick up.

Fair enough to say his form the last couple of years has been uninspiring and he's battled a lot of injuries but it's pretty clear what we think he has to offer isn't it?

He has a lovely penetrating left foot kick, is a natural outside runner and has good size.

We traded Tyson, Lewis is just about done and so is Jones. Adding a running player with a lovely kick to play wing or half back was a pretty obvious move.

My comments / observations are stupid ?

Personally I think form over the last 2 years is a relevant indication of what someone can bring to the table. I have said a couple of times I trust the FD and their decision to recruit KK and wish him all the success in the world

You can have your opinion and I can have mine but I will not be stupid enough to call your opinion stupid

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head.
