Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Apart from that, he’s been plagued by injury, lost his father after being on the other side of the country during his illness and was attacked in social media over his being seen smoking at a music festival (even lambasted for attending said festival while his father was gravely ill).

The kid has been to hell and back... something that causes comments like drysdale demon’s insensitive remark, to make my blood boil!

Agreed, he’s been put through the ringer in just about every way possible.

I didn't pot him when he was playing like many on demonland and I am not potting him now and I repeat The MFC got rid of him at the right time.

I think I understand what you are trying to say. I thought at the time of his trade that maybe we would be better off. That is not potting Hogan but he does have some baggage. So trading him at that time was probably the right thing. I hope he recovers and has a happy life whatever that means.

DD... the comments being directed towards you have absolutely nothing to do with whether you or anyone else potted Hogan or not; they allude to the fact that you simply say the club got rid of him at the right time, yet not a word of acknowledgement re the personal hell he is obviously going through at the present moment.  Maybe go back and re-read a few of the comments that preceded yours and then look at your own comment by way of a comparison... you might understand why you were seen as lacking in empathy.

It would be hard coping with mental health challenges when you are in the public eye, so I hope he gets better soon. As a matter of interest, do we know whether his foot has properly healed?

(And as to the comments from Drysdale Demon, some things are better left unsaid...so I won't say them.)

I get the feeling that his mental health issues are in part related to his inability to get himself physically right. I wonder whether there was possibly another setback in his recovery?

First, let me wish Jesse well.

Second, people need to understand that clubs do things that may seem wrong to people on the outside, because they generally have much more information than fans to base their decisions on.

Third, constantly reverting to past decisions ( which I have also been guilty of, mainly to do with drafting) probably doesn’t assist in dealing with the present situation of a club.

I know what you said. I can read

not one ounce of emotion, considering what he went through, as a public figure. It was all reported in the news daily.

But that doesn’t bother you does it

I was a bit doubtful at the time, but I think on balance, getting both pick 6 and 23 (or whatever it was) and then Steven May was a pretty fair trade in retrospect (perhaps more than fair in our favour - only time will tell completely).

As a Melbourne supporter, I was pretty dam disappointed that we were loosing a once in a generation CHF in the Johnathan Brown mold (I do think he was on that kind of trajectory at one stage).  So I can imagine that asides from the other stuff he has had to deal with in his life, I assume it could also be pretty depressing and frustrating dealing with this lingering foot injury which also seems to be holding him back in a playing capacity.  After putting in so much hard work and sacrifice in his early years and being set for great things, it must be pretty confronting for him to deal with, that his career may not pan out as well as everyone expected.

It's not that other people don't deal with adversity in their lives (I think we can all think of numerous MFC past players cut down by injury and struggled with personal truma behind the scenes) but I put myself in his position and can well understand that even asides from his other health and family tragedies in recient years, just dealing with the realities of setbacks in his career would be enough for a lot of people to deal with - he is human after all.  In times gone by, in the VFL days pre internet etc, he probably would have dealt with all this mostly in private.  In VFL days he might also have had more other focuses in his life like a job that would provide some balance and purpose to his life outside football.

I hope that his family, personal friends and both the  Freemantle footy club and his friends at the MFC get around Jessie and provide him with the right sort of support and influence to help him on the right track.  I'm not making assertions that this is an immediate concern for Jessie, but you only need to look at the tragedy of what happened to Ben Cousins to see that the wrong kind of influences in this situation can have some pretty bad life outcomes.

Who knows what the future holds, Jessie may well come through the other side of all this and still become an undisputed champion of the game that the expectations thrust upon him, but if not and he were to either give up the game or just play out his career as an average player that didn't seemingly reach his assumed ultimate potential, he still has still had a  football career to this point that most people would be envious of and there are other things in life asides from just footy.

I couldn't agree more wwsw, I thought the same, here we go, here's a kid that can kick 50 goals a year for us. I was sorry to see him go and I feel really sorry for Jesse at the present time. Only time and a lot of support from family and friends will get him to where he needs to be.

Good luck Jesse. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that's pretty much the point mate - he doesn't deserve 'special treatment', but he deserves the same basic understanding/ empathy you'd give anyone else in his situation. Not having a go at you, obviously you don't wish him any ill will.

It just seems a bit cold-hearted to be patting ourselves on the back for trading him when the bloke's well-being is at stake.

The only good news here is that Peter Bell looks like more of a Richard than I thought.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
