Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

I remember that Jesse was a big skateboarder back in the day and that a lot of his 'mates' were of that ilk.

It seemed at the time that the club was doing the right thing by Jesse in regards to his welfare. It may turn out to be the worst thing if he continues down this path.

I don't think Hogan will see out his contract with Freo.  Whether that is because his issues force him to step away from the game, or because he asks to be traded back to us or at least out of the state, it all adds up to the fact that going back home was a mistake.

I seriously don't think he'll go far at all WB.

I have a suspicion hell not only not see out his current Freo adventure but he'll end up out of AFL very early.

Methinks you are writing him off a bit early.  And can't imagine any club trading for him after the trashing of his issues that Freo have done.

Notable cases of high end players with mental health issues:  Buddy (missed a finals series), Tom Boyd (played 23 games in past 2 years and not selected to play this week), Dusty (self confessed issues in The Age last week and who had a dedicated minder virtually full time in his early years).

But they are at clubs who are reasonably good to very good at keeping things in house and putting support around their players.  This cannot be said about Freo.  If Hogan bombs out it will have more to with Freo's incompetence than it will Jesse.  That will be a very sad day.

Apologies, not trying build suspense, more so just massive hours at work and last nights game put me to sleep. A lot of people wouldn’t agree with his stance,  he didn’t miss Hogan at all.

- Asked for someone to explain to him how someone can just drink/use drugs to excess than hide behind the guise of mental health.

- Why is it that when this happens the club releases a statement to the effect of “we need to get around this player and care for him” rather that telling the player that he stuffed up and made the wrong decisions.

- No accountability from anymore.

There was more but that was the gist, obviously he did mention that anxiety wasn’t an issue when he was playing.

I heard it on Sports Tonight on Wednesday, they were replaying an interview between Blight and I think Wheatley.

I know many won’t agree but I did with a lot of what he said.

You may be right, LH.  But the signs aren't flash.  This sort of stuff hasn't been going on just since he returned to Perth.  As we've seen with the video (which was rubbish stuff from the Age), he's been up to a bit of 'hijinx' for quite a while now.  It seems as though it's been heightened since he has returned to Perth.  I'd love him to get over all of this, but it may take stepping away from the game to do it.

What? People are considering Hogan be traded back to us??? Are you people mad. Both sides have made their decisions. Let us dry our eyes and get over it. Much bigger fish to fry.

I'm not really suggesting it, Moonie.  It's more a hypothetical and based on how much he loved being at the club and how much the club is still willing to support him.  Nothing more than that.

Wise, a "hypothetical" is much the same as "considering", which is what I wrote.

I'm not sure the club wanted to support Hogan any further. If the numerous reports circulating are true, our club was instrumental in moving him on and not unhappy with the so-called 'unders' we got in the trade, ie, one 1st rounder.

I hope he gets back on track, as any normal human would hope. Mental health and addiction are big issues in society. But I do not know him or his family, so forgive me if i care little, particularly of his thoughts on our club. We would benefit from being more foccussed on the MFC moving on. I'm pleased that another club must deal with Hogan's issues and congratulate Mahoney and co who orchestrated the trade.

In Hun today.p76..Sam Edmund story.

Lead paragraph

" Medical professionals have exposed Fremantle as having made up Jesse Hogan's diagnosis"

Apparently Clinical Anxiety is not a diagnostic category these days...

And the story goes on.

Am ready hard copy...can't link behind paywall

Ah he's recovered from his "clinical anxiety"..that was fast. Its not a term that existed pre Jesse so it must be a short lived condition musnt it? He recovered so fast one could almost think it was just a club suspension...which it wasnt . Was it?

Hogan himself. As part of the trade, we get 50% of his goals this year, 25% next year and 10% in the third year.

Well so far that amounts to zero MR.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
