Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is true, but I was thinking in the context of elite athletes, which is what footballers now claim to be. It is not ideal to be either drinking in excess, or taking drugs, especially in the season. I also previously referred to Ralph mentioning Hogan and Cousins in the same breath. Perhaps Cousins thought he could control his drug intake while playing football, but since then it has all been tragically downhill for him. I do not wish this to happen to anyone, footballer or otherwise.

Really?

Maybe? I don't know for sure. But now we know the drugs control him. "Such is life"? A life wasted now, if his family is asked.

At least Fremantle have a cool, calm and collected senior coach who will approach these indiscretions in a mature manner and deal with them appropriately.

And you just know if things go pear shaped, Rossco will stick fat.

Can anyone tell me which of the following is Fremantle's attitude to player welfare issues?

a ) Player welfare doesn't matter

b ) Player welfare matters, but it is not our responsibility

c ) Player welfare is a useful excuse to use later, since we are going to fail anyway, because we are Fremantle

d ) We're here for a good time, not a september time!

The worst thing someone struggling with mental health issues can do, is mix up with the wrong crowd. It sounds like his “mates” that he so desperately wanted to get back to, are the wrong crowd. Mix that with a footy club that has a poor culture and a failed history of handling troubled players badly, and you have a recipe for disaster.

No one knows and neither does Fremantle. Doesn't their song go like this? " Heave ho, heave ho, round and round we go, where we stop we do know".  At least that's what it sounds like to me every time they play that terrible dirge.

Let me be first to call a Trent Croad like trade.

We will take Jesse back and he probably needs to come back for his health.

We will get him back for nothing. He has a support network within and outside the footy club.

Croad had similar talent  / issues to Hogan.

The environment of Perth may well be a disadvantage for Jesse.

We know of Perth's history with troubled footballers.

Too close to Asia ?

Why is the West worse than the East ?   In off-field footy terms ?

Trying to be respectful to Hogan and Croad here, I think you will find their 'issues' are very different.

Called it after he was traded. Only signed a 3 year deal with Freo which i found odd..

The penny will drop where at some stafe with Hogan where he will realise how good of a support network he had in Melbourne. Add in also that Nathan Jones played a huge mentoring role for Hogan, and him and Goody were quite close. Only have to hear Goodys press conference of him saying that he has texted him and has the full support of the footy club.

Freo have a poor culture and poor leadership. If they are not careful and dont put in the right supporting networks around him he could implode and backfire on them.

I don't wish to sound harsh, but if he does "implode" (and I hope that doesn't happen) we may not want him back. We may not want him back anyway, either because we've adequately filled the gap he left behind or we are not interested in taking back a player who needs significant pastoral care which drains resources.

I hope he succeeds to a level which makes him and Freo happy. I still doubt it will be enough for Freo to win a Premiership while Ross Lyon is coach, though. Lyon's game style seems to be primarily about not losing, rather than winning. That might get a team all the way to the finals, but the highly disciplined approach and lack of risk-taking which his game style requires will leave the team unable to respond when it really counts in a big game.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
