Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You removed my post last night about a video doing the rounds of Jesse with his pants down and his mouth moving like a pendulum on the basis it was yet to be reported. Well it looks like this morning it now has been by the Age.

Its really unfortunate The Age has published that video.  It is undated so could have nothing to do with recent events and could only have been included to embarrass Jessie.

It is not helpful to Jesse's predicament and could make his anxiety worse knowing such private times are now public.

Very low of The Age to publish. Verging on gutter journalism.  There is a limit imv to 'click bait'.  Time for the media to leave him alone.

I hope they take that video down soon.

Best wishes, Jessie.  Life has dealt you some cruel blows but hope you get strong and can overcome the setbacks, regardless of what happens in football.

Do you know that?

Perhaps all parties felt his mental health could be assisted by returning to WA.

I don’t know any more than any other uninformed poster.  But I do know that professional well run clubs don’t put players with mental health issues up for trades.  AFL is a very stressful profession for young players, and mental health issues are not uncommon.  Clubs have professionals supporting players.

Jesse requested a trade and his struggles would have been a factor for sure, and the club would have considered all the factors.  But it is not a Jack Watts scenario.

If he has a big problem with anxiety I hope he can get off the alcohol.

Anyone that has had an issue with anxiety at any level can tell you that it's a bad cocktail.

I know personally that if I have problems and anxiety kicks in the first thing I do is not have a drink.

Wish I hadn't watched that.  That is not good at all.

Hope the kid recognises that he needs to change and he gets the help he need.

Nb: Mental health issues dont occur in a vacuum and have vast causes and manifestations.  Making assumptions about individuals is fraught.

Mental health is a real thing but I’m genuinely concerned AFL clubs are using it as an excuse to protect players who get done for testing positive. Anyone remember buddy and the ‘rumours’ doings the rounds a few years back? As recently as this week we all heard about the shame that is the AFL drugs policy. Mental health is serious and effects so many of our friends and family and it’s such a shame that there’s now a cloud of doubt around AFL players now.

Horrible video. Even when you throw out the garbage LH the stench of bin juice remains. How can publishing this be helpful in any way?

I hope he’s now surrounded by people that really care about him, it’s been open slather since he joined Freo. To some a snap on a phone seems more important than the well being of a person. Sad times and it won’t change any time soon unfortunately.

That was sad to see. Clearly this is very different to 'smokegate'.

I can't comment with 100% accuracy with Jesse as I don't know him personally. However, young men tend to 'self medicate' when suffering from anxiety. It becomes a vicious circle when they sober up and feel like the bottom of a shoe that has stepped in some gum (complete with hangover).

I don't condemn drinking in the slightest (although I have gone teetotal myself recently). People should be able to make their own decisions and enjoy themselves in whatever way they want; should it be legal and/or not doing excessive harm to themselves or others. However, if Jess is suffering from anxiety, the vacuous and dismissive Aussie bloke suggestion of 'hitting the pizz to unwind' is the motherlode of bad ideas.

Not all are suited to the roles they find themselves in.

I really don't think AFL is his best home.

The lad needs professional help.. and a new focus in life.

Exactly. I heard a rumour his Mum didn't want him to come back to Perth due to his mates. Not sure how truthful that is but his partying has seemed to escalate since he got back.

I've seen all the videos you're talking about.... alcohol consumption doesn't seem to be the main problem.

As i mentioned couple of posts back, being back in perth will just make things worse for him. His mates are absolute ratbags and a bit shady also.

I am not surprised his mum didn't want him back...

100% - some turn to alcohol to diminish the uncomfortable feelings that anxiety brings up, and some get caught in the trap to think that this is the only way to deal with them. Hence, I understand when Peter Bell says Jesse’s anxiety problem can lead him to making poor choices on alcohol consumption.

I hope that Jesse can find the right way to manage his anxiety without the use of alcohol.

And to drill a bit deeper, I wonder if it's also a story, within those clubs, of two coaches? One who has recruited Andrew Lovett, Harley Bennell and Jesse Hogan. And one who hasn't.

The Paris Hogan soap opera is going to get worse with him playing and living in Perth. The airbrush treatment does not work so well over there. Hogan’s current demons are blasted all over the front page of The West Australian this morning. Has bumped off all the usual suspects and outrages like bimbos and terrorism etc to lesser pages and columns.

I see, people  are connecting hogans trading to his mental health  as a reason, just think about that, your saying that anybody in the team that has mental health conditions are on the trading block. And many think like that in the media and say the same things. No wonder men between the age of 25  to 40 have a high  suicide rates.  these views give people with mental health issues a complex and low self-esteem, it makes them think that people think that they are undesirable to be at their club or be mates with.

Firstly, I said ''I won't try and second guess Hogan's issues''.  I made no reference to mental health or the reasons we traded Hogan.  I merely said have faith that Goodwin makes the right decisions for the MFC.  So the assumptions you've made about my post are incorrect.  Not new for you.

Now let me add this...

I'll hypothesize, but not in regards to Hogan.  Let's say a player at the MFC (not Hogan) had mental health issues.  And let's say he was causing the club off-field grief and had for some time.  In the club's view this player could be traded for his and the club's benefit.  I FULLY support trading that individual.  My concern is for the club and its ongoing search for success.  I'm far more interested in what is right for the club over an individual and I'll support the club's decision.

Now, at the risk of hurting your safe space, I'll further add that I reserve my ''feelings'' for friends and family.  I'm not overly perturbed by the issues confronting someone I've never met and don't know, other than I hope they recover from anything that ails them, as I would any member of society.

There will be those that will recognise what they see and those without the exposure to be able to do so.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
