Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

John Banner (Shultz), Leon Askin (General Burkhalter) and Robert Clary (LeBeau) were other cast members who were born Jewish, the latter having been liberated from Buchenwald.

Side notes:

- When Klemperer was approached to play Colonel Klink, he agreed to do it only if the writers made Klink an idiot.

- The scar on Askin’s face came from being beaten while in the custody of the SS. And, as a little boy, he performed in front of Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria-Hungary.

- Banner posed for U.S. Military recruiting posters during the war.

- Clary was the youngest of 14 children, and is the only major cast member still living.

I believe the guy who played the Gestapo Major Hochstetter was also Jewish as well as numerous other minor characters in the show. It is strange to think now that all those actors who were directly impacted by the holocaust could in a relatively short time afterwards be willing to be involved in a comedy about Nazis. Could never happen these days.

Why? Because right-wingers would claim it was insulting to Nazis?

I have discussed this with some long time Jewish friends who love the show. There are mixed reactions and many older generation ones love the show. Younger ones who have some knowledge of the show think it is abhorrent. This kind of humour does not play well in modern times.

I’m guessing the club knew about this and it contributed to us trading him for what may have seemed unders. Hope he pulls through it ok; he’s had a rough time of it the past few years with his fathers death and his own health battles.

Wow.... In all honesty I feel sorry for the guy. I am the same age as him and cannot imagine going through what he has gone through in his short career.

But no matter what you have gone through being in an AFL environment for as long as he has, should have taught him some professionalism. At some point getting on the sauce a week before round one he must have known this is not going to end well, and will make headlines and likely make his situation worse. Surely being back home around friends and family (which is why he left melbourne?) He has someone, anyone to turn to if he is struggling with his mental issues rather than getting on it?

Not an attack on his character, but maybe goody and the decision makers at the dees new about these issues and this is the reason we happy to let him go for "unders"

From a supporter point of view, we as a club clearly knew what we were doing when we traded him.  No doubt about it.  The same goes for Watts being traded the previous season.

On a personal level, I feel sorry for him.  As a few above have mentioned, he has been through a bucket load of stuff that not many people go through at his age, and he's had to do it in the limelight of being an AFL footballer.  I hope he is able to pull through and just be happy with being Jesse Hogan the person, not Jesse Hogan the AFL footballer.

Star Fremantle recruit Jesse Hogan has been deemed unavailable for Round 1 selection against North Melbourne as he deals with “clinical anxiety”.

Fremantle football boss Peter Bell confirmed Hogan didn’t train on Sunday following some “poor choices” with alcohol consumption the night before.

what a sad situation. I am not suprised at all, considering what he went through last year.

The photo of him at the nightclub before Christmas told me enough

I hope Jesse gets his life together. I don’t think he wanted to leave the MFC, but he had to go home

Good luck Mate...

I feel really sad for Hogan. I began to stop hoping Hogan wouldn't leave when Freemantle hesitated. It would seem his issues were well known. Most of all, I feel sad for the lad. I wish him all the best and hope things work out for him in the long term.

people come up with the stupidest conclusions, maybe that's why goodyhe traded him that's got nothing to do with it,  Hogan brought this clinical anxiety on himself by going from a team that's going to challenge for the flag to a team that's  going to be in the bottom 5 for the next five years no wonder he's got anxiety

I always felt football was secondary in his life , and no wonder with all the stuff he has gone through.

I doubt whether he will reach his full potential and I feel he is a candidate for possible early retirement.

Hmm you still think it was him driving the change?

So Jesse has clinical anxiety because he's moved from Melbourne FC to Fremantle FC?

It might take him some time to get there, but once he returns to having somewhat of a 'normal' life (coming to terms with his father's passing, cancer battle, etc.) he will dominate. Perth is where he needs to be to get the best out of himself.

When it clicks for him (and it eventually will), he'll explode.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
