Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Should we make mention of the fact that Gawn used to smoke on the way to training, vomited on Tom Scully due to intoxication and [censored] about for a number of years before the penny dropped? Or that Harmes has publicly admitted that up until the 2018 pre-season, he was never in the condition he needed to be in? Or maybe that Jetta needed a wake-up call by being delisted and given a rookie lifeline to seize his opportunity and put the required work in?

Great post Steve. I believe it's questionable however as to whether it was intoxication that was the cause of Maxy spewing on $cumbag. I think it's just another example of good judgement.

@Flag Favourites 3019may have drawn a long bow to compare Hogan to Watts and Sylvia but he was merely noting that another talent may go begging and that we are better off for the Hogan/May trade.

Remember this was is first post.  He made some well expressed good points and praised the club for their work.  Let's cut him some slack so that he feels free to post again without attracting harsh judgement or implication of NFI.

Sorry but Steve is already right on this one. Hogans work while at the MFC is proof he was a hard working professional. Add going down to the Holden centre nearly every day by himself to work on his goal kicking and going to watch other AFL games to study how other forwards worked.

He may well fall off the cliff but who would blame him. Only people with NFI.

I don’t doubt that he has been a wonderful trainer but training is only half of what it takes to reach your full potential. Being a great AFL football is a full time job. He has been a party boy with poor body language since his inception. The tragic circumstances of recent do not change that...He started off well but where’s the exponential development we all expected (and yes I acknowledge he’s been played up the ground last year)...Time will tell, that comment is fair.

Very happy to eat humble pie. Yes his life has been hard, that goes without saying surely....

He is 23 years old, think about that for minute.

I agree with almost everything you wrote aside from the vomiting on Tom Scully as if it was a bad thing.

Time will prove one of us right and one of us wrong.

Hogan may never reach his potential, you're right.

But that'll have nothing to do with a 'laziness' or 'arrogance' as you suggested in your sentence below.

"While I wish Hogan all the best and still think he will be an okay footballer, he screams of Watts and Sylvia 2.0. All young players oozing with talent (and taken at high picks) who drank their own cool aid before putting in the hard yards to become the champions they all had the potential to become. "

No, it doesn't go without saying. It's at the very centre of this debate.

Ones perspective on life changes dramatically after experiencing the death of a parent at the age of 22.

I can't begin to explain how much you're underestimating that.

I didn't say he had NFI, I'm talking about anyone who thinks Hogan should just get on with it and act like a professional as his getting paid so much money ect ect.

Majority of his post was excellent but he started his very 1st post with "mark my words",  screams of old poster RR / ETD.

I said he wasn’t willing to put in the hard yards to become a champion not just an okay or good footballer.

Hard yards includes behaviour at training, on game day AND outside of that. His behaviour on the weekends and time off (which we all know too well in Perth) since he joined MFC and not just after tragic events demonstrates my point exactly.

Further, talks about his poor body language and arrogant swagger on game day have been consistent throughout his career, not just after tragic events.

We at Melbourne are not so good in turning our young elite recruits into top flight players. . see 'Trapper', and many many others since him.

IMO we accord them way too high a profile, in social forums...  allowing them to drink their own cool-aid when out in social gatherings, amongst their peer social groups.

YET, of our other not so shiny talents... most do very well in their efforts to grow as players, and as people.  > see Jonesy.

This club has a habit of drowning its teenage elite recruits,  'in-self'.

Not much. Rum and Mushroom, or other vegetarian ice cream, I imagine would do the trick.

Point is, he looks wasted.  Head on girlfriends lap. In his first preseason with his hometown club.

I like Jesse... and feel for him, but this isn't the way forward for him, his club, and his footy career.

Thankfully those days are over.  Just today it was reported that recruits spent the first month living with a senior player, went to Alice on a camp together (again with club leaders) and will live together for 3 weeks in Kooyong as part of their induction to the club.  They will learn early what is required of them and importantly given the internal relationships to support them now and as they develop.

For what it's worth, there has been chatter about Hogan for a couple of years now. I was heartbroken when it looked as though he was gone, but I've come to the conclusion that the 'Brains Thrust'  behind Melbourne's recent success felt the Melbourne Football Club was better off without him. I can only assume their knowledge and insight is keener and sharper than ours, I also assume they had their reasons for brokering his decision to terminate his contract.

I applaud your protecting a newbie poster Luci, but if I’ve got to wait 1001 years to see another flag per his username, I’ll be [censored] off.

Might alert @Flag Favourites 3019so that he can change.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
