Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bell end is going to have a massive target on his back tommorow when he arrives at the airport.

If he has a set he would do some media, but no doubt he will slip out the back door West Coast Eagles style.

8 x $1M actually sounds a decent deal for Freo.

I can understand the thinking by Hogan. he's going back to  a town where he cannot change clubs easily and obviously going home is big.

If I was his manager I would have been asking 4 x $1.1 with an extra 100k in years 3 and 4.

As others have said with the expected increment in salary payments he will be around their 5th top paid player in four years.

Now about the navicular??

And of course salary has nothing to do with trade value save that with high salaries go high trade picks.

This sounds like amateur hour all round... Managers are paid to do these deals months if not years in advance.

would MFC offer 8 x $1m?

Not sure I would

Nupp. 8 years is fools territory.

He won't stay on any park for a full season next year or any coming.

Strange days.

Am I going crazy but in what world is Lachie Neale worth more than Jesse Hogan?

Like seriously....

1 is a decent mid who is an accumulator who has happened to win 2 B & F's at a rabble club whilst never coming top 10 in the Brownlow.

the other is a 23 year old key forward who has the best numbers at this age as any key forward in the league. Once in a generation player. The thought that Freo will get Hogan & Change for Neale makes me want to spew.

I simply do not get it....

Nor do I

Freos stance was one.

Supposedly our 2

Deal was always in the middle.

I'm not sure our rhetoric was any more than that. The club wanted/wants a suitable outcome... whatever gets there is the required from Freo.

I think every list manager will be in Melbourne tomorrow as they all need to be there for the whole day on Wednesday.

The poster who said the AFL is orchestrating the wed tv spectacular is 100% correct IMO.

They are just leaking snippets to journos.

Commonly called spoilers.

I feel that every one inc myself has reacted just the way they wanted.

AAAAARRRGGGGHHH been conned again.

Source.  Bell flying into Melbourne.

And it sounded just as ridiculous then, as it does now.

Amateur hour, indeed.

No one was falling for that, save one or two Demonlanders and a few mugs in the press.

$1m pa is pretty standard for a top forward.  An with inflation it won't be much in years 6-8.

But 8 years!!  Can't be too much wrong with his foot!!

Edit:  Update: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-jesse-hogans-large-contract-demands-contributed-to-fremantle-rejecting-melbournes-trade-offer/news-story/578fbad1c64f774a808b80e3b8707900

JESSE Hogan’s camp asked Fremantle for an $8 million deal over eight years before the Dockers emphatically rejected Melbourne’s trade offer.

Fremantle was prepared to consider a three or four-season contract, but considered eight years as a leap of faith too far.

"...the Dockers spent significant time weighing up whether Hogan was worth it all. In the end, he wasn’t and the club’s statement was not a bluff".

A Hogan trade is not dead in the water, but it appears Melbourne will have to buckle first.

That sounds to me like Hogan wanted to explore his options to move home but isn't really all that keen to move unless he gets a Godfather offer (years-wise anyway). And if he does leave MFC want to be properly compensated for what they view as a generational player that you can build a club around.

The other possibility MFC were the ones pushing this and Hogan demanded a ridiculous contract from Freo to move knowing they were unlikely to cough up and if they did he'd be set for the rest of his career.

It just seems like circumstances brought this to a head with Hogan not willing to commit long-term and mentioning his willingness to explore his options next year, Weideman having a good final month of the season, May being available, Hogans foot injury, Freo having a top 5 pick and MFC possibly reconsidering Hogan's $900k salary.

Personally I'll be glad if he stays but I'd hope he reconsiders committing to the club long term (assuming the club still want him to). I don't think he'll play his best footy until he has it right in his head where he will be playing long term.

If the 8 mill over 8 scared off freo, then hogan will come back to us with his tail in between his legs, just like Dusty did when GWS knock him back, and Richmond re -signed him for peanuts. This will be a huge dent to his ego, this might DRV him to extended his contract with us.

Yep Tigers signed Dusty for peanuts. About $1.3m peanuts a year for about 6 years.

We’re all hostage in the AFL version of the Truman show. All the players, agents journo’s, ceo’s, heads of recruitment etc, are the actors. They’ve received their scripts post Rd 23, and you and I are Jim Carrey, thinking this is real...and then the realisation of the reality starts to dawn.

The outrage...

The drama...

The betrayal...

It is just entertainment after all...

Its exactly what it is.Other sports finish up & let the players & supporters relax for a while but the AFL feel they need the constant spotlight. They did the same by demanding all state leagues etc finish before their GF.Seriously Trade Week should be 2-3 days maximum as most of the clubs know who they want & who they want out months ago.

Nah, the trade period should be longer if anything. In many pro sports the trade period extends into the season.

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
