Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Would like to know what has changed his mind. Has recently said he was happy here, so something has changed. We know that Watts was moved on due to his attitude regarding rehab to injury. Not suggesting that this has been an issue with Hogan, but something has happened. I cannot believe the club would have instigated this.

Outside of that, not with standing this has potential to be really positive for us in pick/player, I’m really disappointed to see him go. Was really hoping he was going to see some enjoyable footy at the Dees after his tough run let along feel like he could be a 70 goal fwd.

Sorry mate Kolodjashnij.

It’s definitely sad to see him go but I was also told very reliably no senior member at the club didn’t think this was a serious possibility. So plans are in place

Our forward works with or without Jesse.  Successful forward lines are built on getting the footy down there consistently to create opportunities to score, therefore the mid and backs really decide the game.  We have goal kicking mids to support our forwards and two very good existing forwards which will mark or bring it to grounds, and both a have lots of years left so there is no desperate need for Jesse.  However, having Jesse roaming the ground would be great for us.  But in the end the club holds all the cards they can decide if they want to trade and on what terms for this trade period.  Many times clubs haven't traded a player who wanted out and he went onto a great career with that club.  How a player feels know doesn't always mean they will be the same in 12 months.    Even if we don't get a good deal he is only restricted next year and we can match and then trade him to Freo.

I guess its now watch this space.

If Hogan goes what do we get in return? You have no idea. This could be the best deal for the MFC ever. Yes Hogan may go on to be the best player ever, but if we win 4 flags in a row who wins?

I'll say it again. Look at the rest of the thread. I've been over this too many times. You wanna say other posters have no idea, check your facts first champ.

Lever was uncontracted and within his RFA period when he was traded for two first rounders. Had we waited 12 months, we could have gotten this deal. The price, even while contracted, will be two first rounders... Look around at what's being reported, read what I have, then come back and apologise in a few weeks when the trade period finishes up. These first rounders we're getting will likely fall from 5 to 6 or 7 and from 10 to 11 or 12 AT BEST. We can't get another Hogan-quality KP forward that's ready to go in 2019 at that price unless Lynch has a change of heart and chooses us. Best case scenario is we somehow get a King brother, who takes 5 years to come good if he doens't do another ACL, if he's any good at all... Where are your 4 flags in a row if that happens? Hogan is a KNOWN quantity, KPF, one of the stars of the comp already and he's leaving us. You tell me what the price is that can help us in 2019...

We're in a window now. Hogan leaving, and us not getting a player of his quality back that's in his prime NOW as Hogan is, is a big loss for us. Picks won't come through for a long time yet, and certainly not in 2019, if they do at all.

This isn't devastating... But you don't improve as a club by training talent like Jesse and watching it leave after 4-5 years. This is exactly why clubs like GC never do anything. They've had star after star leave just as they're hitting their prime... You're kidding yourself if you're a demons supporter and assessing this trade as somehow "better" for us... We're getting bent over. Deal with it.

$$$$$$$$$$ “KACHING” !!

Might not be the only reason but I’d suggest it’d be the main one. At the end of the day you’re a professional footballer at the elite level for ten years, with the ever present possibility of going down with a buckled knee every time you run out onto the park.

Make hay while the sun shines. Who can blame him? Few would say they’d knock it back and keep a straight face.

Plus his Mum is there. His only remaining parent. The lad is only 23 and been away from his Mum since he was a teenager. Let’s cut the lad some slack. Good luck to him. We move on.

Absolutely it hurts. My 3 year old has a Dees jumper signed by Hogan. He is her favourite player. That aspect, and what he brings to our side, will be super hard to replace.

If this was happening in 2015 then I'd be very worried. However, thanks to the people we have put in place, we have a strong list and a great culture that can not only handle his departure but also kick on from it as well. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

The club has shown themselves to know what they're doing with recent signings and trades... I'm really hoping this was all engineered years ago when Hogan was last up for trade. Hopefully they explained to Taylor to keep his eye on the business end of the draft as we could well be picking there... And he can pull another Oliver out... If that happens, we're back in the black.

Something happened during or right after the Swans game. He was at his sooky worst then. And the not so satisfactorily explained season ending injury and his disappearance from plain sight is suspicious. If Freo are interested in him then they perhaps are not concerned too much about his injury.

Dees need to play hardball with Freo. Hearing Luke Darcy's comments about Freo flipping their pick 4 compo from Brisbane for Neale to Port for picks 9&10, and then sending 9&10 to us for Hogan feels a bit light.

I think we stay firm and state that pick 4 has to be one of the picks we receive for Hogan. Especially when Freo still have pick 5 this draft and a future first rounder in the cupboard.

9 and 10 (likely 10+11 or 11+12) is ridiculous... that's Lever type... Not nearly enough.

Ah yeap that guy. Thanks!

Wouldnt doubt it for a second as they are running the place like professionals now days.

I’m finding it tough to swallow after all of the “he’s a Melbourne person, loves it here” comments from so recently.

patience grasshopper............it will still take quite a few weeks

It's gonna be 2 first rounders. Partly because that's all they have, and partly because in this situation it's all they're likely to cough up. I've settled my mind on that. It's what's gonna happen so we're gonna have to deal with it.

An easy way to deal with such things is to NEVER believe ANYTHING said for public consumption. Football isn't known for the 'truth" ;)

Agree, the compensation for free agents prevents is from access to the top 10 in this draft. Have to play hard ball with Freo. Even if it drags out other deals and we miss a deal for a May we must stand firm.

This, precisely.

On the one hand I still think a 3-tall forward line can work if done right and given the diversity of the three talls we'd have.

On the other hand, in a 'pressure and weight-of-effort' game style there's always room for another small-medium player on the field and we have a great stock of options to pick from there.

It's all ok. Not joyful, but it is ok.

The third tall forward point loses a bit of cache when you see the club chasing hard for Preuss from North Melbourne. You might be able to fit 3KPPs into the forward lineup but not 3KPPs and Gawn/Preuss.

On a side note, it was refreshing to see how Nathan Jones is dealing with the issue compared with Tex Walker’s fit of pique last year when it was announced that Jake Lever was leaving the Crows.

Is it worth 2 first rounds and May or are they saying 2 first rounders and one to be used on May?

I think it is the later unfortunately.

If we do not get at least one top 5 pick and another first I will be disappointed.

Hey Dappa - I love your passion and how upset you are with the decision from Jesse's end, but in the end, what else can we do here?  I full agree with you that Jesse is a huge talent and, if this all does happen, it will leave a big gap on our list.  Some are underselling his value to our side and, while Weideman gives us plenty of hope for the future, he hasn't consistently had the output that Jesse has.

I'd like to think that two first rounders will help us net Steven May and KK, and while that doesn't add up to Jesse's value, I think their overall additions, as well as the other first rounder, leave us in the best position possible going forward.  I don't think we could theoretically get more.  When Judd left the Eagles got Kennedy, Pick 3 and Pick 20.  Judd was a better player than Hogan, so I think what we'll get is about right, and that's not factoring in the potential to swap later picks as well.

Keep your chin up my friend, I reckon we'll come out of this okay in the end.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
