Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The problem for us is if Hogan wants to leave. we lose a lot of bargaining power. we can say we'll just keep him unless its a good deal but usually players end up going where they want to go.

If we want to get rid of him, I will lose a lot of faith in the FD. If T Mac goes down next year we are screwed. Weid is showing promise but is years away from dominating and question marks remain for me.  and we have no back up tall fwds

Melbourne dont have to do a thing, just sit back and wait.

Have a back up plan if Hogan says he wants a trade, but we want the lot if a trade goes down.

Ready made player aged 24, the peak of his career. Pick 4,5 and Brayshaw have to play hard ball, we hold all the cards.

Remember we dont need to trade him, how much do Freo want him?

Answer: BAD

Exactly!

Big bodied forward, coming into his prime, under contract, right as our premiership window opens! We hold all the cards here!!

If we don't get overs, or at least what we want, then he plays for the dees again next year and we have a tilt at the flag with +50 goals coming from him.

Still not a free agent next year so we have nothing to lose.

Is Jesse really a FA next year? Not certain the below is correct (source: Footy Wire) but he seems to be too young to be a RFA at the end of next year?  2018-09-26_9-45-26.png.aac56d128619d3981f5aec63d1b0aefa.png

He's not a Free Agent until the end of 2021.

He was drafted in special mini draft in 2012 but was not on our senior list in 2013 and could only play for Casey because he was too young.

First season on our senior list was 2014.  8 years to qualify for FA means end of 2021.

He is out of contract next year though.

What happens at the end of next year? Can we still trade him or is it straight to the draft?

Yes there are 4 alternatives

1. Re-sign with MFC

2. Trade

3. He goes in the draft

4. Quits football

I’m Jessie’s biggest fan and think he’ll  be a superstar.  Our forward line can function well with 3 key forwards just like Adelaide’s did last year.  Makes the 3rd matchup really hard.  But to just throw another issue in the mix, Preuss wouldn’t be coming to play VFL and if we get Preuss I can see Max playing less ruck time next year.  85% ruck time this year was too much.  With Preuss could change to 60% ruck time, 30% forward, 10% rest.

That’s the plan as i see it. Max rests up forward. There is your 3 tall forwards

he can take a pack mark, which is not a Hogan strength

A couple of questions, just for consideration.

1/ Do we know the exact nature of Jesse's foot issue?  Has he / will he recover fully?

Could he be thinking along the lines of "is this a Mitch Clark type situation (regarding the injury, not the personal character)  ... Dees have been great for me, maybe I should get out and get them something whilst I can, as well as getting a nice fat contract from Freo even if it turns out to be only short term?"

2/ Do we know that "the incident" hasn't mentally scarred Gaff and will he be as good as he was before?

The year he played at Casey and not on our senior list counts as service towards FA. The question was asked about some of GC/GWS picks they took a year early who played in neafl the year before they joined the AFL and the answer from the AFL was that those years count towards FA.

WOW.  That is a bit of a surprise.  My bad for saying 2021 earlier in this thread that may have misled other posters.

So Jesse is an FA at the end of 2020.  That puts him in a tricky spot for contract renewal.  He can't extend for just one year to 2020 - too obviously his FA year and shows lack of commitment.  Can only imagine the club would (or has) asked for a long(er) term given our performance has clearly dispelled his prior doubts.

He is a proud and private young man and genuinely appreciate of all MFC have done to support him.  He will be very wealthy whatever he does.  Can't imagine just $$ will take him to Freo.  So it will be very Interesting watching this play out and see what Jessie really wants from football.

From a Freo point of view (which I know none of us care for) it seems like a pretty silly list decision to sell the farm for Hogan. They can have a crack next year when he's out of contract and save their picks to really build a good midfield core. Just seems like a Mitch Clark type move.

That tactic only works if Melbourne don’t manage to re-sign him in the meantime. If I was Freo I’d do ASAP so the situation is within my control.

I definitely remember them saying that was the case however who knows - they may have changed rules on the fly. Shiel for example was taken as an underage recruit yet only qualifies for FA at the end of next year (first senior listed in 2012) but I don't know if that's just due to contract situation.

For discussion sake, if Jesse stays this year and decides he wants to go next year, what are we likely to get for him vs what we could this year?

Less. He won’t be a free agent, and we then lose the leverage of him being a contracted player. If we believe he will leave when his contract ends, we’re better off trading him now while he holds more value.

The club will be prepared either way. While it would suck if a budding superstar wanted to leave, it’s not going to be the end of the world. We’ve proven we can be competitive without him, and we would be able to extract a lot of value from trading him.

Obviously I’d prefer him to stay as he’s a young star with some seriously good footy ahead of him, but it won’t be the end of the world if he leaves.

No I want to keep him because he is one of our best players and I believe he will dominate the comp for the next 5 years

quality tall fwds are very hard to trade in or draft.  it would be massive loss

Agree.  The price would have to be right for MFC to entertain it.  If it happens, I want MFC to play super hard ball.

McCartney stood out for twelve months and went to Freo free as a bird, didn't he?

Cam McCarthy? Yes he did, but that was GWS playing the hard game IIRC. Melbourne wouldn't be dumb enough, surely? He's actually fairly useless, that's why they want Hogan lol

The this year / next year thing can be nothing more than speculation.

Jesse plays 22 games, kicks 60+ goals and makes AA, he gathers greater interest at the trade table and hence garners us a better return

Jesse struggles with injury / form, kicks few goals and wears mounting pressure regarding his contract status and we'll have our backs against the wall trying to retain / move a player without being suitably compensated.

Move him now if doing so makes us better in 2019. If not, Jesse stays in red and blue and let the cards fall where they do next year.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
