Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Peak - End Effect

There is an idea from Daniel Kahneman (Behavioural Economics) that we evaluate an experience on the ‘peak-end effect’.  That is, we are hopeless at assessing the full season rationally, and instead take our feeling from the season by the peak experience (good or bad) and the end experience.

We all know what was the ‘end’ experience.  It was disappointing, and a definite lowlight to leave us all feeling a bit worse about the journey the club took us on this year.  However, what was your ‘peak’ experience for the year?  What was the intense emotional moment (good or bad) that shapes the way you saw our year.

Here are 3 of mine:  The smashing of the crows in Alice.  Man, what a performance.  The Geelong final win.  Probably my peak emotional experience and an absolute beauty.  And #3 was the win over WCE that got us there.  (My peak negative was the Geelong game with the loss after the siren).

What was yours?

  • When they shifted Gus into the middle for the second half against Essendon. He took his chance and the coaches had enough nouse to leave him there.
  • The 15-20 minutes of perfect football v Footscray when we wacked on goals coming from BRILLIANT Ruck work and clearances. ( It really showed our class in Max, Clarrie & Gus. When ypu see the video concentrate on Petracca's role because he was also extensively involved with those sublime handballs that enabled the clearances to be really effective
  • TMac when he was fairdinkum and attacking the footy.
  • ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT was Neville Jetta's stitching up Dangerfield in 1 on 1 's v Geelong in Elim Final. Jetta the Magnifico !!!!

Geelong final was number 1 for me.  A combination of the unbelievable support there is for the MFC and the players just being brutal in the contest which is what they stand for.  The first 30 minutes was the perfect package.  The crowd in the last quarter was unbelievable.

The Adelaide 3rd quarter the second time we played them.  We were under the pump that day and completely outplayed for almost 3 quarters but hung in there.  Then blew away a very good football teams season in 15 minutes of unbelievable play.  That was the first time I thought this group will be going places, especially coming after the Geelong debacle.

Low-light was obviously Saturday.  First time all season where at half time we had no chance of coming back.

1. Kent's long goal against West Coast to practically seal the game;

2. Belting Carlton by 109 points;

3. The two Adelaide wins.  First one for the way we absolutely smacked them into submission  (to the point of that 3 quarter time coach stare down).  Second one, because we nailed a close one on their home deck, with our backs to the wall following loss No.2 at the Cattery;

4. The entire period from virtually opening bounce Vs GWS to the siren in the Geelong final, finally dominating reconised top 8 sides.

Definite low lights were the two Geelong home and away games and the Sydney game after quarter time (before quarter time was semi enjoyable apart from not putting another 4 or 5 goals between us that we could have).  Was more anoyed about the Hawks home and away loss than actually concerned and likewise, I thought we had shown enough intent against the Tigers to show we have what it takes to beat good sides when we put it all together.  Collingwood loss was probably as bad as the prelim loss when I think about it, in the sense that it was probably over before half time in reality.

Other notable highlights for me were 1st Gold Coast game (was the first big margin win we had of the season and I was there to watch it live) and also that 3rd quarter domination of the Doggies the second time around led by some sublime ruckwork from Max at the centre bounces.

Overall the season went about as well if not a fraction better than I had realistically hoped at the start of the season, which was to convincingly make finals and then put in a credible finals performance (which I think we did bar the prelim, i.e. not getting bundled out without a win).

Not sure that extent of summary really supports your theory @buck_nekkid.

In order. Peak

1. Coming out and humiliating Geelong on the big stage and beating them when it counted to win our first final in 12 years. In game moment was Jones goal Which he kicked right in front of me.

2. Beating Hawthorn in the Semi. In game moment, Jack Viney’s bulldozing play (that gave the “Worpedo” a free lesson on how to actually play) to Set up Brayshaw’s mark that put it past Hawthorns reach.

3. Beating West Coast in Weat Coast to make the finals. Wasn’t able to watch the game, had to listen on the radio while working. In game moment looking back was, the stoppage Jones tapped the ball with his foot to get it out to Brayshaw that started the paly down the wing which led to Melksham putting us back in front.

Interesting to note that your two lowlights were the result of appalling umpiring - something external to the players' (of both sides) efforts and endeavours.

Highlight - Hannans Goal as I was located at the left point post.
Just does not get old.

Lowlight - The 1st half of the Prelim when we embarrassed ourselves and declared to the AFL world we are still mentally weak AF.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
