Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sorry for my apparent ignorance, but if you buy a GFG, why are you going into a ballot (which is what I read from the above).

I'm interstate so will Armchair it - if we're tracking OK I may upgrade to the GFG (assuming they're available)

To let them know you're actually going to use the ticket.

Not sure of the final 2018 figure - we may need to wait til George brings up the Tally thread (he holds the key to the lock ? ).

Upgraded from Redlegs to Trident a couple of weeks back.  Couldn't get 2 seats together in the Olympic stand so we are in the Great Southern Stand section.  Loved the Redlegs area (N1-4) behind the Punt Rd goals, hoping the move to the HFF will be worth it!  Very limited opportunity for the premium packages by the sound of it so register your interest asap.

In a way, it is a little early to start this thread but 2019 memberships will open soon.  I thought while our finals success and ticketing experience is fresh in our minds it is a good time for folks to think about their membership.

Certainly, for me it was quite enlightening to learn what different membership categories mean for access to Finals tickets.  (And amusing to watch us all staggering around in the dark not knowing what to do to negotiate the process or Ticketek.  It was fun sharing it with everyone on here).

The main things I learnt:

  1. Three game or better membership had the same priority eligibility to Finals weeks 1 - 3.
  2. For the Grand Final it all changes.  Broadly the categories were:
  • Ballot:  Priority 1 - Memberships with the Grand Final Guarantee (GFG) included or added on (plus some other categories)
  • Ballot:  Priority 2 - 11 Home Game or better memberships without GFG (plus some other categories)
  • Ballot:  Priority 3 - All other memberships

The odds of Priority 3 being allocated GF tickets seemed quite low.  I think, the AFL sets the broad eligibility rules so the above may change for 2019.

For 2019, I assume the memberships with the GFG  will sell out fast as the number sold is capped and people that already have it get first choice to keep it.   At the risk of the membership team being inundated with early calls, I was able to upgrade my niece's 3 game membership to a Redlegs membership late last week (same row but not to sit together; wait listed for that).

I will post the link to Memberships when I see it on the club website.

A couple of other thoughts:

  • This isn't the thread for posters to criticise supporters asking for barcodes etc - 2018 caught us all by surprise so cut them some slack, especially the country and interstate folk
  • This isn't the thread to complain about Ticketek or the AFL ticketing policies.
  • Maybe the mods could pin this for a while so that new info can easily be found.

One final thing:   What an outstanding job the Membership Team did.  It all went without a hitch which is no easy task the first time a new project is undertaken by a team in any organisation.  Kudos to Tracey and her team for the work, time and energy they put in to making our lives as straight forward as possible.

Across 2018, Tracey was an immense source of assistance with a variety of my 'interstate' and family members 'interstate' meetings at the G for the footy. She assisted cheerfully and completely in meeting my Interstate Member requirements and upgrades to such a Membership.

This included one finals match. There was no time in my schedule for attending the GF but I would be keen (as the likelihood of the MFC making the GF is at this point very good) to examine the details required to secure - as early as possible - an additional upgrade and a GFG. Therefore, I would be keen, LH, to see the maturation of this information on this DL Website for the next season. 'Carna Dees!

This link shows info on the broad options for 2019 https://membership.melbournefc.com.au/packages  There are a lot of options/packages so it is best to browse through them to see which suits you best.

I think upgrades to reserved seat packages and the GFG option will sell out quickly.

I have tried to upgrade my membership but the auto renewal just keep defaulting to last years package and wont let me change it.

Anyone able to give me some tips on how to change it online, or do i need to call the club?

You'll need to call the club. Tracy is great but there isn't much available in the premium memberships.

I sat with a mate as Redlegs members this season and we have another mate who called up today to join (he's MCC).

The girl on the phone mentioned that they have been inundated with member calls, so much so that the level 2 member section will be sold out today!

This bodes well and 50k is very achievable for 2019 and may be closer to 55-60k.

Great to hear.

Unfortunately I don't think we can get three seats together!

I was going to upgrade for 2019 looks like the ship has sailed.

one of the problems of the club improvement I guess.

I noticed the club has removed the player calendar from the Redlegs and Trident packages, which is disappointing as I really enjoy using it.

Oddly, it is free for Redlegs and Trident, if you set up automatic renewal with annual or monthly payments to a credit card.  I get the club wants members to renew without having to think too much about it.  The problem is that if you pay in advance via a credit card on-line or over the phone, you don't get the calendar which is weird as the early cash flow is better for the club than the monthly auto payments.

I have written to the club to see how else to obtain the calendar.  Shall report back when I hear.

Don't give up yet.  The existing seat holders have a limited time to renew if they are not on automatic rollover.  There will always be people who don't renew, so get your name in.

I upgraded to GFG seating from my interstate membership and being on the dedicated demon payment plan, the club has already advised me that 2019 will now cost $377 - not too bad I thought. Particularly now that I'm in the line ahead of what might become an avalanche of members upgrading in years to come. I just think it's a no-brainer if you want to watch the GF live.

I also think it's worth noting that this finals thing we're suddenly a part of is bloody expensive and being an interstate member, even moreso given the September airline rort.

Next years family budget of the McQueen household has been tweaked already.

I signed up for the grand final garentee package at the start of this season for mainly that reason.  Didn't expect to be so close to putting it into action a few weeks ago.

A few more comments:

1. Like you I'm an interstate member and thus it makes the overall package still fairly afordable;

2.  The claims that why should the interstate members get it so cheap are somewhat misguided for a number of reasons:

i) You get three games but rarely use them all.  I'm in Brisbane and there were a number of years when we only had the one game up here and a few years back when we got none;

ii) The grand final garentee component costs the same for everyone.  If we don't make it, it still costs you the ~$200 odd dollars regardless.  Worth noting that it will still cost another $300-$400 on top of that for the actual ticket on top of that if we make it as well (the guarentee only gives you the aces to the tickets, not the tickets themselves).  Still I think it's reasonable value and probably still less than paying scalpers prices;

iii) I'm ok with paying something even if we don't make it, on the basis that my understanding is that the MFC still gets some portion of the fee (probably something like a 10%-15% sales margin, but I'm just guessing and when I asked the club, they couldn't tell me on the spot);

iv) After being an interstate member for the past 7 years consecutively (previously also a member in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s), I think I'm as entitled as many are;

3.  My sister got automatically put into priority 2 due to having a number of years consecutive membership (greater than 10, but don't quote me), so some people might also fall into that category;

4.  Even though I had the grand final garentee package, it was still somewhat stressful registering for the lottery.  It's a pretty tight time window (something like 9am - 12 pm on the Wednesday before the prelim) and my old man (who also signed up for it) who tried to do the online registration found the Tickatek system very unuser friendly, difficult to use and was concerned he wouldn't be able to get it to work in the time available.  In the end he got there, but it stressed him  (and me) out a fare bit.  With the costs/prices involved, we deserve much better than the poor service provided.

Sorry @Lucifer's Hero, I know this is probably deviating even further from your inital intent for this thread, but as general remark, I do like that Goodwin, Max and probably others seem to be making more of a point of appealing to, embracing and encouraging the MFC's supporters to get on board as an important part of making us sucessful going forward.  See their B&F speaches in particular.

Seem to be riding the wave of optimisim unleashed with our huge finals crowds.  Probably hard to appeal too much to people before now, without making finals etc.  Now that being on the cusp of sucess is clear for many, the club really does need to capitalize on the resurgence to set us up finacially and supporter base wise for the next 10 years or so.  Should also help put us on the map better with attracting players (like Collingwood and Hawthorn have used it) being able to appeal to playing in front of a packed MCG and would be good if we can get West Coast type favorable umpiring results due to crowd noise as well.  Might also mean no more or only one game in the NT as well.

Need to keep building on that finals supporter turn-out for the start of the next home and away.

I like it too, although I’m bad at keeping calendars up to date! Looking over at it right now it’s still on March - Mel Hickey. Talk about inaccurate!

I was just trying to avoid it being derailed by folks complaining about AFL/Ticketek/Ballots/Barcodes etc.  Your post is very positive - exactly what we need in this thread.

Yes, it is a great time to get behind the club and as you say Goodwin et al are doing a great job of rallying the fans.  A 90,000+ finals crowd is testament to that.  From various posts above it seems our premium memberships (and maybe the GFG) are sold out which is a good sign.  It all points to being 'relevant' again and can only help attract players to the club.  A great time to be a Dees supporter!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

    The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

    For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
