Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree Gawn needs support but I don’t think the side can support Gawn, Preuss, Weed, Hogan and T Mac.

Gawns back up has the be the third tall forward. Can’t carry 4. I personally don’t even know about 3 I think we look better with just 2 talls and some good smalls

My view of the best 22 for next year

Lever    Oscar  Jetta

salem.  Frost.  Hibbo

jones.  Oliver.   Harmes

petracca.  Hogan. Vanders

melksham  McDonald. Weideman

gawn.  Brayshaw.  Viney.

Lewis.  Nibbler.  Hannan.  Fritsch

I think Lewis will be under pressure to keep his spot just given his age but he’s good enough to play his role and hold it

jones will need to settle into a slightly different role. Maybe up forward. Not sure he’s good enough overhead to play back all the time. Could also be a tagger. Beauty of harmes is he can shut someone down without losing his offensive output

oscar I think had improved a lot this year and lever back in will help him a lot. The backs too often don’t talk and fly for the same ball. This needs to be worked on over pre season

up forward we will need to work hard on our connection and forward craft. We will become super dangerous when those guys begin to isolate and create space for each other. Too often they all get dragged to the same spot.

Tyson isn’t best 22 for mine at this stage and is someone I’d consider offers for. I think he’s worth a pick between 25-35

the addition of some outside pace on the wings would help a huge amount. This gives baker and hunt and opening if they can have a good pre season

all in all I think we had a bad day in the prelim but we are close to a flag. We will be better for the run in finals and a huge chance to go one better next year if the hunger remains and the growth continues

I'll update this as the list changes come in. And after trade week. But I thought I'd get some things down on paper and see where we are at and what we need to bring in.

FB: Hibberd   Oscar  Jetta

HF:  Spargo  ?Hogan    Petracca
FF: #####   T Mc  Melksham
Foll: Gawn   Oliver  Viney
Int: ?HBF,  ?Forward/Wing, Harmes, Vanders

I've left Frost and Oscar in because I don't think we are getting May and we have to back them in.

Depth: ANB, Hannan, Stretch, Baker, Maynard, Wagner, Jones, Lewis, Hunt, J Smith, ?Garlett, ?Tyson

Key defenders: Frost, Oscar, Petty, ??Keilty
3rd tall: Lever, J Smith
Back pockets: Jetta
Flankers: Hibberd, Salem,Hunt,  ?? Lewis, Wagner

Inside mids: Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes, Maynard
Outside mids: Fritsch, ??Tyson, ??Jones, Stretch, Baker

Mid/forward: Petracca, Vanders

Key forwards: T Mc, ??Hogan, Weideman

Crumbers: ???Garlett

My Best 22

FB: Salem   Oscar  Jetta
HB: Lever    Frost  Hibb/May
C. Fritsch Brayshaw  Hibb/____
HF: Spargo  Hogan  Melksham
FF: ________   T Mc  Petracca
Foll: Gawn   Oliver  Viney
Int: Jones  _______   Harmes, Vanders

In my opinion. We need Speed! But Hunt isn’t the man going forward. His kicking is actually getting worse. I like Stretch when he gets abit of confidence.

Lewis is done.

Tyson gave all he had for the last 2 months but time to move on.

Weiderman has made a big headache when it comes to balancing out smalls and talks up forward..

ANB Needs a kick in the ass. Joel Smith isn’t the answer.

Jones is too slow to play on a wing (Has to play in the guts or rotate on the bench or through Half Back)

Gawn Needs help.

I hope we get Gaff but I’m hearing the club won’t pay the 1.2 million he wants a year. He would go straight to the wing if we got him.

potentially if we Got May. Hibberd could go to a wing.

Pretty embarrassing on the posters or on the players.  Jones looks totally lost playing on the wing and isn't in the best 4-5 mids to run through the middle.  Lewis great with ball in hand but defensively is terrible.

Leg speed and kicking skills.

Must admit bit worried about 2019, I reckon it could be a bit like 1998 to 1999, we will go backwards to go forward.

Richmond will get Lynch, Geelong Dalhouse and Rohen, North Polac, Gaff and the Hall, Collingwood will get May so the sides around us will get better by adding missing links, really we need to players North are getting

Agree - I look at north and go - yep that’s what we are missing. Jack Martin should be top of that list if he wants to move to Vic.

We won’t match Polec money, Hall isn’t good enough, Gaff would be a dream.

lewis I could make a case for speed and someone with Similar foot skill. But Christ. Jones isn’t going anywhere.

We don't seem be a destination club for some reason. Would like to see Hogan play as a defender. O'Mac could go forward. J.Smith retrained as a tall mid. Jones to be eased out of senior side. Hunt to become a forward. Possibly pick up Preuss, Gawn can ruck 50% and play back or forward. Preuss to ruck rest of team

Its about money ball, and if your current and future output isnt in line with your salary you become tradeable. tyson, kent, bugg would likely be in that boat. others aren't up to day in day out performances like frost (doesn't play when lever is back), hannan but we still need then until we have something better and the cap space to get players in. also a best 22 type with finals experience would be helpful for when lewis and Jones move on likely after next season

true, we don't seem to attract free agents either which are free kicks. they seem to always go to hawt or geel

2019 could be an anticlimax unless we take serious stock... our draw will be tougher.. the prelim shows the flaws in our style... we need to be proactive and tough minded in my opinion...

Safe in the 22

Jetta Omac .........

Hibbo Lever Salem

........ Brayshaw ........

Trac TMac .......

Melksh Weed ......

Gawn Oliver Viney

Next best .....Harmes Jones ANB Lewis

Depth... Fritsch Vanders Stretch Petty Hannan Frost Smith’s

Not sure about... Spargo Baker Keilty Maynard Wagner

Gone ..... Vince Baltic Pedo King Flipper Johnstone

Tradebait ... Hogan (for 2 first rounders) Tyson Kent JKH Garlett Hunt Bugg (all swapped for picks)

NEEDS...... WINGERS x 2... fast good kick half backs x2 .... forward crumbers x2.... 2nd ruck backup........ quick mids x2.... key forward and back...

I wouldn’t be relying on natural growth because the competition will go past us particularly with 666 and 30 metre goal squares..

We got Lever last year, have picked up Hibberd and Melksham the years before that and Lewis chose us while he could have gone anywhere. We don't have a heap of spare salary cap (like Nth/StK) to be linked with everyone, and I'm happy we pick up guys with a lot of scope to improve and have time left (excluding Lewis - a free kick really).

I think Jones will be doing more running than anyone else in the league this pre-season, clearly he's no longer the go to guy on the inside (but thanks for holding the place together for years), but I can see him doing what Lewis did years ago at the Hawks. After one of the pre-seasons he came back much smaller and lighter than ever and then he's role shifted from the inside to outside/half back. I can see Jones doing the same, he's not super fast but not slow either, we'll need him to just will himself to each contest but to stay on the outside now. If he can do that he'll be a more than handy wingman.

Hopefully Lewis comes out like Bernie did last year and says he's happy to fight for his spot and knows there's a good chance he'll end up at Casey, he played a shocker in the prelim, but he was still more than handy over the year but I don't want him to play more than 15 games next year, I want the younger guys to completely force him out, not be handed games.

I don't know that (many) people are wanting to delist Jones (certainly Junior McD was handled badly) but there can be no guarantee that he will be 'best 22' all 2019, so would it be best if he were relieved of the captaincy?

Hard to drop a captain, and playing one just because he is captain doesn't work, does it Casey?

Lewis' last game just can't be forgiven that easily. Flying to perth for a prelim and he hits a wce player off the ball, reverses the ball and they kick the 1st goal of the game from it and get the fans up and about. Pathetic act by a 'leader'. He then gave away about 3 more goals . I think Lewis has been good for us this season by by gee is he a polarising player. I think he is gone next season, due to leg speed alone.

Why not just kick him in the gonads as well while we’re at it?

Jones isn’t a fringe player. He is heart & soul.

Obviously these trades have to take place for this too work (Don’t know how it will work but this team keeps Hoges while picking up May.) Mind you this is when everyone is fit & if Kolodjashnij reaches his potential without injury.

Lever  May  Hibberd

Kolodjashnij  TMac Salem

Harmes Oliver Fritsch

Gawn Viney Brayshaw

Petracca Hogan Jones

Pruess Weidman Melksham

Reserves - Spargo  Jetta  Stretch  ANB/Hannan

Fortunately, we won't get to see TMac butcher the ball at CHB, because there's absolutely no way TMac will play back again. And Hogan will go. Nothing surer. So your team with TMac replacing Hogan and Frost/OMac playing CHB is getting better.

Sorry mate, only been a supporter for a couple of years so really don’t know how TMac goes down back. From what I’ve seen up forward I thought he’d go alright up back. I’m guess OMac goes better than his brother down back ?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
