Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He's not speaking on your behalf. He's telling someone else, who said you were on the right track, that you're not. Which is pretty usual fare for you.

I have already moved on.

We gave it everything in the last month but came up short. Great foundation for next year and the ones following. Only a couple of pieces short of the right team for a flag. Maybe we get them this trade period, maybe we dont.

Still very proud of what the whole club achieved this year. We are no longer a sick joke. far from it, teams (supporters at least) did not want to play us.

Respect earned.

Fingers crossed we improve again next season.

What do you think are the pieces we need to complete the side?

Interesting comment about respect earned. From my perspective I was proud of what the club achieved this year. Yesterday was a step backwards. I find it hard to respect the mental capitulation of the entire team, it was shades of the 88 & 2000 GF. For all the fans that spent money and time getting to Perth I really feel for them. The one positive I took out of the game is that I didn't shell out over a grand on airfares to go to the game. People may criticise me for saying this but after yesterday's performance this team will have to do a lot to earn my respect and trust again. It was the worst first half of a prelim final performance by any team in 80 years. That's not emotion or irrationalism that is reality. They had a shot at a GF and just didn't turn up.

Personally I find it ironic that they earn the respect back and belief of not just supporters but AFL community and then totally [censored] the bed in their biggest game of the year.

I thought this group was different and had moved past mental capitulation after the last Geelong game. Apparently that is not the case and perhaps the thing that hurts the most after a performance like yesterday.

Perhaps one glimmer of hope is that I don't think Goodwin is the wrong man for the job. I think he will do what it takes to build this side. Just not sure how he does it after a performance like yesterday when there are so many who have failed.

Sorry, you are right on this bit.

On our last performance, we are a top-4 side stacked with 20-24 year old up and coming superstars, missing two of its most important structural players, who hit a physical and emotional brick wall after a run of huge games, bringing us to the finals for the first time in 12 years, and who were overawed by a big game but who will learn and grow and naturally overcome yesterday's blip of a failure.

Sounds quite good to me.

Today’s performance tells me we still have a bunch of players who are not up to severe pressure

0.6.6 at Halftime says it all

Big tough decisions must be made.

I guess Richmond supporters will reach a similar conclusion? Miles behind at half time, lose by more than 6 goals. Team must be rubbish, time to rebuild!!! What BS!!!

we made a series of errors in the first ten minutes , gave them an opportunity and they grabbed it with a huge supportive crowd behind them. If we played WC next week at the G  I would  back us..  Add Hogan Lever ( and Fritsch) , there is not much wrong with our team.

How's the bit about a team that COULD NOT SCORE A GOAL IN A WHOLE HALF OF FOOTBALL sound ?

Just wondering. Sounds marvee to me ( not )

That's a record you can wear with pride yeah ?

The thing that irritates the hell out of me, is how long it will take to find out how we will respond, do we take learnings out of this, or something much worse, the manner of the loss really has me writhing in agony. I am impressed with the improvements and believe Goodwin when he says these are young men with their own destinies, but jezzus effing christ, really did they have to mess the bed like that. As of now I am going to choose to believe the coach and that we are more than that, but I really can't wait to see it, the next 7 months are going to be torture. I do also think it has been a year where we made huge strides and I want to thank PJ. I also think every player has tried their guts out and hope they have a ripper holiday and enjoy what they did achieve, which was plenty.

Can't you read? Just wondering.

Enjoy spending the entire summer wallowing in one game, rather than getting some perspecitve.

Massive learning experience for our blokes. You couldn’t compare that to Hawthorn or Geelong games, where quite clearly our boys stood tall.

Goodwin was concerned about contested ball and tackles moreso than fumbles.

Likely, that’s where we will see ongoing changes made.

Its not the first time this year this has happened and when those games are reviewed and a  a clearer pattern will emerge.

Some of the changes to the playing list may surprise us, who knows, but I have faith Goodwin will find what he wants.

Taylor is pretty good at his job.

Just got off the flight from Perth and back home. I felt embarrassed in the first half and remembered what it was like to be a loser. Butt of jokes. Anyway, good ok them for showing some fight in the 3rd, bitvtyt was a disgrace. Ten blokes had their worst games for the year. I don’t need to name them. I will say that Dom Tyson is a scrubber and has been for two years...Lewis was foul and coughed up so many goals at crucial times. His position must be questioned. Oliver battled on. Viney has a good second half butt was missing , along with Jones, for 2 quarters

Well , as you were at the game you may be able to explain something. Why did our blokes repeatedly fall over especially early in the game. The falls at critical times cost us several goals. Yet the WC  guys barely fell at all. We must have had the wrong stops or whatever they use. It looked as though the ground had been sprinkled an hour before the match, but I doubt this! Is it just a layer of new grass?. A hard 15 minutes workout on the surface a couple of hours prematch surely would have alerted everyone to the problem.

Wow mate we are all shattered but got beaten by a better team with s more advanced list ... that’s the challenge to come back & improve . But to basically give up on them is absurd!

I've supported them for over 30 years. Didn't mention giving up anywhere in my post. I'm just not sure what will get this side a GF win after witnessing what happened yesterday when so many went missing. Perhaps more perspective is needed, however there's a lot of glaring deficiencies brought to light from yesterday. I'm Just being a realist.

Couldn’t handle the pressure which is not surprising.

Disappointing way to end the season.

Viney to be sole captain next yr please and tbh didn’t even realise Jones was playing.

Also for the love of god Frost, can u learn to mark the bloody ball.

On a positive I don’t have to shell out thousands of $$$$$ to see us lose next week.

We handled the pressure the previous 4 weeks. Tigs didn’t handle it for 1 game, Geelong didn’t etc. we fluffed our lines badly but if the players want to get better then this is not the end of the world.

Young team that has the potential to grow and become a premiership team.

Holes to fill, of course, every team has holes to fill.

Cant wait for round 1.

You’re right up there with him for a mountain of negativity in the face of what has turned out to be a positive and enjoyable season.

Take a step back from the ledge and enjoyn the view... before the season we hadn’t done anything for 12 years, by the end of it we’re a genuine flag chance. As I said above if the players want to take that next step.

I’m not even thinking about yesterday, I cant wait for next season.

I spent the afternoon at a nephews.(hes from WA...yes...an Eagle )  They'd put on a great spread and I was very much looking forward to not only only dining out on the yummy food but on a 4 course dish of Eagles.

Instead of a" fine fair" of a game I was served up offal. It seems predatory birds find this tasty.

Much of what can be said already has. It was a disgrace to the jumper. It was embarrassing. We were more than capable of matching it with this lot but we we were a world away. If anyone thinks thats anywhere near the effort and ability needed they are so far removed from reality it's not funny. I actually felt for Simon Goodwin.

Finals are a game between ears and something went very very wrong.  Im not pessimistic about our future, but nor am I quite as optimistic about it right at the moment. The Club has still a mountain of work ahead of it to be truly considered relevant . My definition of relevance means finals footy..EVERY year as a minimum. Not saying you always can...but when you dont you are NOT relevant.

At the end  I decided I would just go home. I had no taste for a beer or anything really. I just felt gutted. An offer for a lift was kindly refused. I just wanted to be alone.I walked home..all 5 k. My wife got a text from her sister. "Hope  XXXXXXX is ok, looked so disappointed, we felt so sorry for him".  My wife knew Id be fine by the time I got home. I was. But it seriously makes me sick to my stomach to be on the receiving end of Pity from Collingwood people again!!  I thought those days were now behind us.

Melbourne should look at history and learn a lot from Collingwood as they did before our halcyon days.

They have a line.."side by side we play together , they KNOW how to win the game"   Yesterday we did neither. We fell apart and went out with a whimper.

Hopefully , apologies to Keating ( something I thought Id never say btw)  perhaps this is the trouncing we had to have !! This is THE wake up call. No good being on the stage if you cant perform. Harsh ?  well...life's like that isn't it.

Go Dees

No that’s not the line. Or the two lines.

This is the song:

“Good Old Collingwood forever,
They know how to play the game.

Side by side they stick together,
To uphold the Magpies name.

See, the barrackers are shouting,
As all barrackers should.

For the Premiership’s a cakewalk
For the good old Collingwood.”

Unfortunately, this year the song might be right!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
