Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Our supporter stereotype

I was talking to a mate about the Demons at tennis the other night when one of the opponents butted in and said 'I thought you'd be up at the snow'.

When he said he was a Collingwood supporter I asked him if Barwon Prison had let him out on day release to play tennis.

He wasn't happy, but I made my point.

Ian Cover and Champs (Coodabeens, ABC radio) have got some gripe with Melbourne, they cannot save themselves from making snide remarks. Cover was shocking on Saturday morning, don't know what his issue is. Fortunately they have a young guy on there now, "Andy" who remarked to Cover that they  (Melbourne supporters) wouldn't be driving Range Rovers, they would be driving Teslas....

Ahhh....so you're the listener they still get.

I think our stereotype is pretty funny (Titus oreilly hams it up hilariously) and in some cases very true. But not always.

At my encouragement from the other side of the world, My younger brother attended the final vs hawthorn - his first football match since the 2000 GF - he expressed his surprise at how many Asians and Indians were wearing demon scarves

I believe the MFC should use our stereotype to its advantage particularly as we become regular finals participants.

Most people aspire to better things. They may not be Range Rovers or trips to the snow but we all look up at different times. We should be the team that the younger generations barrack for when they are looking for a club that mirrors their aspirations. As the poster 2 above implied who really wants to be linked to Joffa?

We are already half way there. We play at possibly the best stadium in the world, definitely in this country and our history is arguably that of the oldest football club in the world.

We are the oldest and the best.

Are you suggesting Indians and Asians don't have Range Rovers ?? ???

The only stereotype I detest is when the commentators constantly refer to us as 'The Dee's' rather than 'The Demons'.  It gets my backup as they always put the 'toffy' accented pronunciation on it.

I know we use the 'Dee's' phrase in screaming 'Go Dees' etc, but other than for that reason, they should be using 'The Demons'.

If they're going to abbreviate teams nicknames, then I want them to refer to Hawthorn as 'The Haws', just like The Demons treated them on Friday night!

This.

All I can say is that I'm relieved The Country Party changed their name to The Nationals.

Seeing club gear like jumpers and beanies made to look like snow gear just makes me grin.
Goodwin showing up to the Big Freeze slide in his snow gear also amused me highly.

There's a Collingwood supporter at work who constantly gives me lip about going to the snow.
I just tell him I'll knock more more of his teeth out with my cheese platter if he keeps it up.

But I'll always cheer for the Demons or Melbourne.
Never the Dees.

The MCC has made the MFC irreplaceable. We owed them a debt which we are now about to start repaying big time. This includes, not allowing, in the foreseeable future The AFL or any bloody Government for that matter to call the shots with the precinct. Our strong phoenix like relevance will not be lost on other "Players" like you know who. As for the grass roots level, we should never be not proud of supporting a Club/anything, who needed a hand up, and that would be/ is what i say.

What's with all the Dees hate? (Serious question).

Does anyone care when the Magpies get shortened to the 'Pies, or the Kangaroos the 'Roos, or the Bulldogs the 'Dogs, or Fremantle labelled as Freo (heave ho), or Brisbane becoming 'Brissie', or Essendon as the 'Dons, or Port Adelaide becoming Port, or Tigers becoming Tiges?

If there's a problem with abbreviations, Australia must be tough to bear, because that's something Aussies are renowned for.

Couldn't care less about how we are stereotyped.  Speaking for mysel only, not born with a silver spoon in the mouth, never skied, left school at 15 without a private school education and despite my envy I don't own a Range Rover.

But I do love my Dees and we are as passionate as anybody

Agreed,

as long as we’ve been the Demons we’ve been the Dees. It’s part of our identity that everyone’s knows us as. You hear ‘Dees’ you know you know someone’s talking about the Melbourne Demons.

I don’t mind what the media says, but last year when a Collingwood supporting guy I work with sent me a mocking email about how I could now spend September at Buller (and other such stuff), a line was crossed. I responded that I would consider repeats of this bullying, and would report any repeat of stuff like this. It will be interesting if he tries something this year.

I drink VB. Dress like a slob. Work a manual job. Swear every second word enough to make a sailor blush. All that and more. I'm one of the biggest yobbos you'll ever meet.

But I'm still the better man for being an MFC supporter and member.

They're known as the Hasbeens for a reason. Same old sh*t  year after year after year. In fact they've all been dead for 20 years and what you're hearing are replays from an earlier geological era.

This is the correct response. Rub their f***ing noses in it.

We're at the start of an era of high profile footy (flags included hopefully) and part of the spoils are the right to be arrogant and condescending.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
