Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would we take $cully back?

It is being floated and he would give us great outside run, which we currently miss.  The question is has his speed and endurance been affected by his broken ankle?

Yes he has a lot of history at the club.  But we are a totally different club from the one he left.

I imagine any discussion would be with the leadership group on whether they agree if the FD decides he is key to get it maybe happen.

All I will say at this stage is what I was told yesterday morning:

1. Scully was also told the same thing as Dylan Shiel. Scully didnt take kindly to this. GWS still need to clear cap space.

2. Scully's put the feelers out. We were keen.

3. This was discussed by people within the club yesterday with little resistance. Only one person with in management was dead set against the idea.

4. Three way trade involving Fremantle, GWS & Melbourne had preliminary discussions after the initial Fremantle offer for Hogan was declined. Lobb, Scully, Hogan and a flurry of picks have been discussed. Melbourne are trying to get their hands on 5 (which is public knowledge) to get May done and GWS are looking to find a suitable deal to clear Scully off their books

5. Hawthorn have been deep into Scully for two weeks now and have had discussions with Hawthorn about a trade. GWS dont think Hawthorn have the currency to suffice them.

Not doubting this but media hasn't got a whiff of this and they'd love a story like this.

Hawthorn have a problem coming up with not using enough first round picks in a certain period of time I was told.

The reason we are in the frame is the Hogan deal. Plain and Simple.

Im not saying we will get him or its over the line. But we are the second team that is being reported.

If he is what we need get him. Hated what he did but seems to be the hooker of the afl. Would be a funny turnaround.

As much as we may hate Scully I think he may hate us to the same degree. Where it is unfortunate is that he is a good pacy midfielder which is what I think we need the most. There is no way he would consider coming back to us.

As someone who grew up barracking for the Dees up until the 2000 GF, before losing interest in my edgy 20's because "footy was for bogans", before jumping back on board in 2013: Who is Tom Scully?

I'm not as much of a fan as many who've stuck with the Dees through those years i'll admit.

PS: I do know the tom scully story, but don't have any emotion about it as i wasnt around then, so dont care if we brought him in if he fills our needs.

Agreed. I think the animosity runs both ways. Not from the current MFC as a club but from the Dees supporters and the Scully family.

Im surprised the talk he wants to come back to melbourne, does he dad still work at the giants?

I thought he enjoyed the fishbowl life of a footy player up in sydney. But maybe the salary cap is pushing people out.

I don't think we need him, but if he does play for hawthorn I really hope we don't boo him It was 7 years ago, we are a new team and have moved on.

Apparently there's some sort of family issue, not going to make light of anything it might be, but it's not a massive deal. The giants are way over the salary cap and have put the retention of Kelly and Cognilio next year the priority, and are happy to let go of Shiel, Lobb and Scully to make that happen.

On a pure playing level Scully is exactly what we need, and there's been enough time and understanding to accept him back. It would be very immature to not at least look at him just because he left in the past, and I don't think the club is like that.

My understanding is that Scully looked a terminally ill Jimmy Stynes in the eye and told him he would stay at Melbourne.

I don't think that my loathing of Scully can be attributed to 'immaturity'. No matter how good a player he might be, I would hope that he never dons a Melbourne Guernsey again.

Really, the reason I don't want him back - and in any case the little #@%$ wants to go to Hawthorn whose colours could not be more appropriate - is that he has not been an impact player to anything like the extent you'd want. And there is the injury cloud...so the hell with him.

It's significant also that the Giants are willing to let him go and have other much higher priorities.

It doesn’t sound like his currency is particularly high, I must admit it would be strange seeing him back at the club but the moment he wears red and blue he’s one of us.

And as a secondary layer (not something he’d be worried about but for the supporters), how about some redemption? FWIW I never had any ill feelings towards him, he was a kid being courted with stupid money and his dad in his ear telling him to go. We weren’t in a good place at the time and the pressure was on him to be our star.

He suits a need, if it happens the Dees fans need to get over any issues they might have. I would however want to FD to ask the leadership group first what they think.

Who knows the true circumstances, he may have said that with all sincerity then the price got put up (the deal was too good to refuse), or the old man forced him to go so he could get that cushy job. Surely after 7 years we can let go of that one?

He's been All Australian squad twice, so he's having an impact you might not have noticed. The giants are clearing space for Kelly and Cognilio coming out of contract next year, plus have Cameron etc. on deals that are forcing them this way.

Like playing Collingwood and winning a GF this year may have had a certain symmetry I think Scully playing in a winning MFC GF could be cathartic for many of us.

He was barely 19 being offered millions to leave a club that was a basket case.

I for one am very willing to forgive. In fact I forgave him about 3-4 years ago. Sure he was an easy whipping boy in those dark years but sometimes we need to give a little.

Stynes should never have put him in that situation. Never. It is not the Presidents role.

he was offered a deal that only Ablett had surpassed as a 19 year old,  the AFL wanted him there.

I heard he said to Jimmy he hadn’t made up his mind, I think Jimmy basically asked him, “are you gone?”

I’m not necessarily defending him and only a few really know what was said but just as GWS put a lot of pressure on a really young man so did we. We were a very different and amateurly run club back then.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
