Didn't fly before and probably won't again. But . . .

Myself, and probably a few others on here, kindly ask our fellow Demon/land supporters that this thread be reserved for an in-game discussion of tactics and so forth, as free as possible from emotion and dire statements or sweeping generalisations.

I've deliberately chosen to not watch this game in public, as I'm not sure that I can control my emotions in such a domain, and if I'm arrested I will probably be banned by my girlfriend from watching any further finals football for now and into the future.

Still, I like to dissect what's unfolding before me, and can at least keep a poker-face on paper, and I would happily watch with some informed fellow Melbourne fans but there's only four or so of us in Amsterdam. As such, you're my only community.

Let's keep it rational but with a rebel yell. Go Dees!

I’m sort of with you on this Skuit, ie yearning for some rational analysis rather than the rants and ridiculous exaggerations we usually get on the Gameday  thread, but what the hell at least the contributors are sincere. We’ve all suffered together and maybe now finally we might be on the cusp of something good, we may as well stick together. I urge u to re-join! I will be from London. I can’t bear to watch the game live, I judge what’s happening from cautious peeks at the Gameday thread. I know that sounds mad but it’s the only way I can cope

Cheers London Demon. But it's not a matter of rejoining. I'm engaged as ever, but I've avoided the Gameday thread as best I could for the past three years. It's basically pointless but as an emotional outlet. I have bricks and TV at home for that.

Ditto! Thanks for this thread. ?? There aren’t many Dees supporters (me) aboard a Russian yacht in the Maldives so no chance of watching it on a big screen. ??Hopefully I can forego my last scuba dive in warm tropical waters to follow this thread or (more likely) watch our victory unfold post by post with a beer post match! ?

I will be totally irrational at the game; see you all there!

God, I hope all our players manged to get their tickets what with all the Ticketek drama. Imagine if we couldn't field a full team because of that! Oh, that would be the most Melbourne thing ever!

I too, can't bare to watch this game with anyone else around, so my better half has unreluctantly gone a retreat for the weekend, and I'll have the little lad tucked up in bed. The phone will be off, and I'll be having some home made pizza (someone mentioned this elsewhere...always the best choice, compared to shop purchased fare).

I believe in Goodwin's philosophy of the contested game stacks up in finals... I'm not worried about that, I'm interested in how the (potentially?!?) increased intensity affects our game style...

I also don't believe our players will be overawed...I think that is a post hoc analysis if a team has lost...so that in itself won't be the answer.

Keen to hear what others are looking for tactically.

I assume Clint Bizkit will be an active contributor here then?

Richmond and Hawthorn have done very well in finals without dominating contested possession.

Not sure what this means, but I'd be interested to learn.

Go Dees

Said it before - we should win if we play near our best because the team we are playing against is not built for finals footy. They look to keep possession and avoid contests and are terrible out of the centre. They will try to get Dangerfield and the other elite talent to dominate and make us reactive and inert. We play our ferocious style and lower our eyes - we will win.

This thread is like communism, great in principle, does not work in reality.

We are all emotional, irrational, nut jobs when it comes to game day. Add finals to the mix, and you are no chance.

I'd like to think most posters here can accept the fact that, for this year at least, playing finals is a large step in our development and has gone a long way to casting aside the demons (excuse the pun) of our last 12 years.  Regardless of the result tonight, I think we've made tremendous strides both on and off the field, and I am really excited for what lies ahead for us.

Like others, I'm watching from home tonight as I can't get away from work early enough to make the game, but will be home in time to watch it live with my wife.  Thankfully my daughter will be in bed by then so she won't be subjected to the fist pumps, loud groans and general rubbish behaviour that will be thrown at the TV.  I'll keep the rational thoughts for this thread instead.

Seems like you found your way here without my help just fine.

Don't let your wife watch The Bachelor or Gardening Australia then. Watch the game instead.

One things that would really help the gameday threads is a crowd roar function where all the dozen or so simultaneous posts of 'wooo!' or 'damnit you sp-ud' can be merge into a swirling animation or something. When you're trying to get more info on a game you've only got sporadic online radio for, it isn't much help scrolling trough an entire page of 'Tyson you %*}@' or 'Yes, Petraccaaaaa here is my daughter's phone number'.

This is not the time to be rational Skuit!

Could win the most Melbourne post of the year. I'm very jealous! But I'm sure that a win tonight will overcome that :)

Great thread and good idea, look forward to reading all the irrational rational posts! Im leaving Ballarat now on the way to the game. Ill also be in Amsterdam in a few weeks and hope to still be watching the Dees playing in finals by then. Hopefully there is somewhere good to watch there...Good luck all overseas Demons!

Fairly epic, in-your-face brag. Questionable without photographic proof.

Yes, lets hope most see this year as a positive, regardless of tonight's result. i am in New Zealand looking for a bar to watch the game , unfortunately starting time here is 9.50 and it also clashes with the NRL finals.

Rational!

There is not rational about being a Dees supporter. Silliest thread in a long time.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
