Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Malcolm Blight attacks the MVP Awards

Apparently players voting on each other is stupid because "half of them don't watch the games".

This is my favourite bit:

"Blokes in the media ... would know who played better than most players in the whole comp and I think the media awards are actually higher, they know more about the players who play well."

Yeah ok.

BT can't tell the difference between Jetta, JKH and Garlett, but media people know better than players. Sure Blighty, sure.

This is the same guy who didn’t have Clarry in his AA team as he thought he did not do enough!

Blighty should just retire.

Blight was a good player and coach but not a mediamans a#$eh^%e. He did predict a few weeks before the finals that North would win the flag so I will leave it at that.

Blight's right and was backed up by Cooney.

Many players don't watch games and get their feedback from media scribes as to who the dominant players are in a particular year.

It seems popular for younger posters to denigrate older past players just because of their age.  I automatically consider such posters dolts of the highest order.

Easy to pot ol Blighty...but I reckon he's got a valid point.

The MVP would just about be the donkey vote of the Sport.

Right up there with media awards also ;)

I recall Blight on special commentary suggesting Hogan be dropped late in the year as he wasn't scoring lots of goals against top 4 teams... fair to say his opinion shouldn't carry too much weight these days.

Wasn't he confusing Viney with Moloney at some point last year? He was a good player and coach, but the past few years his sense on reality has definitely slipped away...

I think the coaches votes carry the most weight personally.

Blighty is prone to a few clangers, but I can't find fault in this. I doubt the players have much time to watch many games, let alone all of them... every round. So their opinion might be limited, based on incomplete data.

Doesn't mean the award is entirely worthless, but I get what he's saying.

The distorting of Players opinions in the MVP Awards category would be high, and depend on who you like and who you hang around with. I remember in (comps) i used to go by numbers, stop marks and elbows (just a start).

Blight might know thing or two about the game.

Probably achieved every individual and team award.

Last playing coach, too

Might not have won the MVP Olayers award though Radar. Maybe it’s sour grapes ?

Devils advocate position: The players would recieve a lot of feedback from coaches and support staff about opponents who play well, what they do, who are dangerous etc.

Double devils advocate...

Most coaches don't play a tag on Mitchell so you would think he mustn't be that dangerous/valuable.

...but the players still think he is.

I think he has a point... a lot of players are open about not having the time to watch a lot of opposition matches.  Every year the AFLPA survey makes me raise an eyebrow or two with many of their results.

Evidencing the fact that few players watch opposition games is Bayley Fritsch not even making the list of best first year players!  It’s difficult to admit but Blighty is right.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
