I'd have Melksham tag Stewart, then try and isolate him one out in the F50.  Stewart was terrible in last year's finals, and will get bloody nervous again if the ball keeps coming in his direction in a one-on-one capacity.  I really think Stewart is vulnerable one-on-one, so I'd be playing our best one-on-one forward on him.

I'm going to be interested to see how Scott plays his talls (at both ends).  They have Hawkins, Henderson, Blicavs, Taylor and to some degree Henry.  If they play 3 tall defenders (likely to be Blicavs, Taylor and Henderson), then our forwards should be too quick for them.  Blicavs is the only one they have that can go with Tom, so we're going to need a huge game from Sammy Weid as I'm certain Henderson will go to him.  Playing him in that traditional lead-up CHF role, taking Henderson away from his comfort zone, will help open up the F50.

It's because of this that I think they play 3 tall forwards (likely to be Henry, Hawkins and possibly Taylor), then I wonder what we do about the third tall.  Frost to Dorkins, Oscar to Taylor, then maybe Hibberd to zone off on Henry, then have Fritsch play that rebounding role that Hibberd normally plays.

Tuohy and Bews are my biggest concerns in their back half.  Do we bring in Bugg to tag Tuohy out of the game, or do we give that job to ANB?  Personally, I could see ANB playing on Duncan, leaving Hannan for Tuohy/Bews.

ABSOLUTELY VITAL that we go 6-6-6, and not allow them a loose defender.

Blicavs is a player who rumbles us quite often; he needs to have an 'accident' with a nice run-through from Vanders going about his geographical, field-wide excursions, and a follow-up from Harmes when he (Blicavs) gets up from the carpet.

Geelong are 16th for centre clearances. Its their defensive rebound where they will be confident of winning it. That's why our last two weeks have been so important. Hitting up targets i50 AND stopping run from defence.

I agree but in general all year their midfield has been down, the form of Selwood, Danger (AA?!) have been down, Duncan not the form of recent years that we're used to, they will back these guys in in a big game to stand up, Dangers best game for the year was in R23. Ablett hasn't been as bad as many think. Our midfield pressure/defence/two way running will determine how far we go in coming weeks. Lowering our eyes as you say has been refreshing compared to what we've seen all year (finally).

Little doubt that they will flood our forwardline and rely upon their midfield to cut us up on the rebound.

We can either apply forward pressure and maintain ball control or relax the press a little. What we cannot do is bomb the ball to the 30 metre mark and then watch it come sailing back over the defensive press thus putting the likes of Hawkins etc one on one.

The problem with our game plan is that it only takes two 15 minute bursts the other way to undo all our good forward work. And of course we need to kick reasonably straight on goals..2 goals 6 and the like for a quarter will kill us.

PS: Against WCE our midfielders got caught a few times disposing the ball into the 50 as they were lowering their eyes. Didn't mind this at all because it gave us a chance to reset downfield from the resultant free kick rather than bomb inside the forward 50 and watch the ball come out in an uncontrolled manner.

Not sure I put much weight on the GWS game as other than controlled ball movement in the first 15 minutes GWS were not on their game.  (Lovely to see the win though.)

This. We've struggled all year with teams that play a loose defender to intercept forward movements by foot. When we're playing well we lower our eyes and hit shorter leading targets. Hitting these targets means we maintain possession and force their players to come man us up, thus spreading them out further and creating more space for us to utilise. It also creates pressure on the opposition defenders. When we're really on, we also use lots of overlap running to build the pressure even further. Games like last weekend, we were hitting targets and running forward in waves with confidence. 

When we're panicked, we bomb long. Good teams don't do this. They pass backwards or sideways to maintain possession and open up gaps in opposition defence. Teams have identified we struggle with this and play a loose defender against us. No use winning the ball at stoppages if you're just handing it back to the opposition. The Hawks game should be reviewed as a perfect example of opposition coaching on how we can be beaten. Control our forward movement without bombing long to an out number we we will win comfortably.

Don't agree with this. I thought they were really good up until about half way through the second q when we started to get on top.

It was very high quality game up until that point with some of their field kicking brilliant. What we did well was spread hard and not allow them as many uncontested marks as they would have liked. When they got one we worked hard to stop them playing on and moving the ball quickly. They struggled to get out the back of our press.  

After we got on top they did fall away but that was at least partly due to our incredible pressure and swarming intensity. We just didn't let them play well at all.

Our last goal deep in the last was the perfect example. A series of crushing tackles as they looked to move the ball through the corridor led to a turnover and goal.

Our all ground, all team pressure was awesome and clearly the team has responded to Goodie's criticism from the Sydney game that our defensive running was not up to standard (as close as he has come to giving the players a public bake). 

Keeping GWS to 47 points on beautiful day for footy was impressive, particularly with two rotations down for most of the match (one down for all of the match practically)

Our half forwards must push up when we get it and make options.  Massive effort needed from Milkshakes, Hannan and ANB here. 

I never buy into the Ablett out of from thing. Very wary of his potential impact.

I agree with a lot that's been said above.

I think with Viney in, Goody may play Clarrie a little more forward at times again too.

A big factor will be how we start. We can't afford stage fright.
I was stoked to see the whole squad went down to Casey and watched the team absolutely murder 17 AFL listed Geelong players on Saturday.
No percentage on offer and they still hunted and pressed for four full quarters to beat them by 91 points. Ruthless footy.
It's given me a lot more confidence the way the whole squad is in this together.
Geelong will buckle if we bring this pressure to the game. 

I think they'll target Gawn heavily this game. The spotlight has been on him these last two weeks and I think they'll be out to physically target him and grapple with him in the ruck. There's been many games over the last two years where he's been impeded by the other ruckman when they are losing and he hardly ever gets a free.
Not sure how we will counter this? 

I would expect Selwood to possibly try ducking and playing for frees :)

Kelly tried to iron out Oliver last time we played this mob. I hope the Umpires are aware of what is going on.

Ablett and Dangerfield made the Umpires look second rate with a decision that ended up changing the course of the game. I hope the Umpires do not listen to the Coach of Geelong like last time after a game. The game is not at Geelong and the Umpires need not be scared of anyone. MFC supporters will protect their integrity.

The secret tactic i heard from MFC's point of view is called "off their legs"
