Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

the gws is a fast running side, so while i initially thought no change been wondering if we should not bring wagner into the backline and move bailey up into the forward line and rest either kent or spargo.

I've been hinting Wagner.   For this reason, run speed.

I was thinking run-with. Cover one of there hard running backs. Whitfield or other.

Leave Fritta's role alone.

How many can we get to the game on Sunday? Locked in finals, celebrating our 160th anniversary, two high quality teams going toe to toe.

Is 45k too optimistic?

We only got 23,000-odd to the GC game three weeks back, with glorious weather too.

Adding in the bump from making finals and the fact that this game is between two finalists, rather than against a basket case, and I'd like to see 35,000, but would still be happy with anything above 30,000 TBH.

Resting players?? You want a final in Sydney?

We have a bye anyway

Want to fly over and easier to get a seat at the g. A win and I will hit the enter button quick. What day would we likely play?

Gawn can rest in the bye before the finals, like all our other players.

I agree. He was clearly hampered vs Sydney, but looked great against West Coast.

Spargo is too little. Dont think he is ready for finals footy when the 'big men fly'..  Needs to put a lot of muscle weight on over the summer.

If they drop Spargo who replaces  him ?   To be honest...i don't G.A.F !  As i said last week....pick the guys who are 100% fit and want to play the most......Kent did well!    HE STAYS.

Spargo was far and away worse against GC and continued his poor form against WC. He SHOULD be dropped going on how everyone else has been dropped/promoted but whether someone else has earned the shot is another story.

I reckon Spargo has been cooked for weeks. I'm certainly not writing him off permanently - it's his first season so I'm reserving judgement, although I don't think he has great forward craft and don't see elite midfield potential yet either - but I don't rate him at the moment.

However, we have a bunch of injuries (Lever, Hogan, Vince, JSmith and Viney), I can't see how Garlett gets back this week - even though I would have kept him over Spargo - and the cupboard's looking a little bare otherwise. I'd delist JKH and Bugg at season's end and wouldn't play either unless we're struck down with further injuries, while Pedo and Tim Smith aren't the right type to bring in.

Interesting suggestion from @Whispering_Jack regarding dropping Spargo for Wagner. It'd allow Fritsch to play further up the ground, which I'd like, but I'll be surprised if we bring in Wagner.

No, but we can perhaps bring in Joel Smith.

Didn't realise he was a chance for this week, but just read that he's a test (as is Hunt). I reckon it's an attractive option.

Smith would come back in before Hunt I suspect...

It would allow Fritsch to move fwd. He done some good things in defence but sometimes his one on one isn't quite there. Prefer him delivering to forwards as a link man or kicking for goal.

It’s a perfect opportunity to give Bugg a last chance this week, in for Spargo who's cooked now.
Bugg runs great, excellent endurance, strong who'll run, tag, compete, stick tackles and harass all day long.   Yes we’ve focused on Bugg hate over his set shot kicking which has improved at least a bit, but his good qualities are so good, we forget that his 7 week suspension made us immediately weaker back then.

I suspect they’ve wrongly stamped Buggs papers just as they wrongly stamped Lynden Dunn and Stef Martins.
We’d be silly not to try him with little to loose now, and plenty to gain because Spargo’s cooked while Tommy B is strong and fast all day long.  He could take any of their midfielders out of the game and, like with Frost, people will wonder why we didn't try him earlier.

How is Smith progressing with his injury?

If we can bring him in and send Fritsch back up forward, it solves the problem of who can replace Spargo who looks really really done. He's put in a magnificent effort for someone in his first season. We forget that Fritsch played VFL before so he is much more conditioned to a full season.

Wagner gives me no confident whatsoever. He panics and turns the ball over frequently.

Bugg is a hell-no from me.

I find it the differential between our membership base and Richmond bizarre.

I mean, 60k more members? It seems a little far fetched.

Is it possible that when we become really successful we could nudge 60k?

I heard something like 10k of those Richmond membership signed up late season also (i.e. for Finals ticket priority - whatever that's worth when 100k have priority)

Give us 2-3 successful years I think 60k will be surpassed

Although it's unlikely there is still an outside chance of us cocking this one up. Unless there are serious question marks (Hibberd eg grabbed his hammy) we should field our best side and try to get as much momentum for September.

Spargo would be the only one I'd drop but I don't know who comes in as no one really did much at Casey.

I am just hoping that Hibberd's hammy group was suffering from cramp - that was persistent yet not continuous. No news yet?

Could consider replacing OMac with a younger tall runner/defender - Keilty? Wagner? Bugg for Spargo?

I don't think they'll replace OMAC, hes had a pretty good season as a whole with some blunders in the middle. I think Buggs papers are stamped but who knows, Spargo does seem tired but he had some good moments and has been playing the system. But, it's a raffle.

Fritsch is effective down back but gathers quite a few niggles and direct off-ball aggression from opponents. He is better at setting up and/or kicking goals - a surprise packet in many regards that is hard to contain and defend against - as he comes in so well from the side. Move him forward for a while during the GWS game.

AFL Supporter Ladder - 2017

From Roy Morgan (2017), number of supporters of each AFL club. Both us and Tigers are at the pointy end of converting supporters to members.

There are some weird numbers in here. Mostly looks like BS to me.

North more than Melbourne? I doubt it. The Swans? Well 98% of NSW would say Swans. What does it really mean? Giants 175,000 you're kidding.

Oscar is 22yo, Wagner 24, Keilty 23. Petty is the only younger key back he is 19 and not ready as we saw earlier in the season. OMac is fine.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
