Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

James Harmes take a bow.

i've always thought harmsey had the right foundations - effort, toughness and attitude - just needed more poise and clean up a few minor skill areas which would come with more games, but i must say his improvement in the second half of this season has exceeded my expectations/hopes

he's now an A grader (if he keeps it up and there is no reason he shouldn't)

While i struggle to have a clear recollection of my childhood hero... Barassi, I can't help but feel that Harmes is the closest thing we have, to what a young Ronald Dale was like, in his early years.

The new position (R/R)being struck, to suit his skill-sets.

I think, I see the similarities, appearing.

Be ready Harmes, for the taggers to climb on.

He has always show glimpses of doing the things he has done over the last few games, but would only do it in a few passages of play and would fade in and out of games.  He's now doing it for whole games and week in, week out.

I get the feeling that the difference is that Harmes along many in that similar stage are now have developed strong mature bodies and the confidence and understanding/coheasion  with their team mates to fully utilize it.  On the whole, we really looked so much more physical and agressive at the ball and man than GWS yesterday, a team that I think we are at a similar development stage at.  The contested ball stats for the season also back this up.  Hoping that it is a sign we will be in a position to bully and dominate most of the rest of the comp in the years ahead.

Incredible that we already had the best midfield in the comp BEFORE the Harmes explosion.  Its just getting unfair now.

God help the league if we get Gaff too.

I've always liked Harmesy because of his rough and tough style and the fact that he grew up as a Demon.  However, I never held high hopes for him as a footballer, and thought he would probably finish his career at Casey, having fallen short of achieving Life Membership of the Club that he has always loved.  That would have been sad.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think he would go from 'fringe player' to solid 'foot soldier and handyman' to a star in of one of the best midfield combinations in the AFL, all in the space of six months.  His rise has been phenomenal!

As an aside, the panel on Fox were talking about Harmsey in the post match on Sunday evening.  One of the panel said that Macca has taken a very close interest in his development.  At one point Harmsey had lost a player driven bit of fun ('spinning wheel?') and the penalty was that he had to shave his head.  Harmesy wasn't keen on the 'prize' and Macca took the 'medicine' for him.  Love it!

I predicted in preseason he would play as a half-forward/mid and kick 35 goals.

Got the position and the goal tally wrong,  but he has turned into the gun I thought he could be.

Viney injury allowed more time on the footy. He’s confident in his ball winning and never hesitates when around the footy.

I do have to say that being third fiddle (now 4th) behind Oliver and Brayshaw helps and so does a generational ruckman...

But that isn’t a knock - he is in fantastic form.

What the hell has happened to this bloke?

Much like with Brayshaw, necessity brought him some opportunity when Viney went out.

My favourite part about this whole story is that since he’s started playing “stopping” roles, he’s become more of an offensive weapon than he’s ever been.

I was curious to see how he’d go with Viney back, given he had essentially been playing Viney’s role. It’s an “inside heavy” midfield with those two, Oliver, Brayshaw and Tyson all spending time in there. All seem capable of getting on the outside when needed as well though. It’s turning in to one hell of a formidable midfield.

TBH Nash, I think it also makes Viney have to play some wing and forward as well, both roles I think he can do for stints and I hope they make him for the simple fact if one gets tagged heavily push them to a wing/forward and we lose nothing and there are 4 others who would be walk up starters in most teams midfields.

Yeah he really has developed really rapidly, part of me thinks it’s the role that he just flourished into, not being wasted at HF.

Either way:

Gawn, Jones, Oliver, Viney, Harmes and Brayshaw is a formidable midfield, thrown in a few cameos from Petracca, Tyson and ANB and we’re truly in the “not even fair” category.

This is why we dominate contested ball, this is why we get first use, and this is why  we can achieve anything this year.

I actually believed that Geelong was going to be harder than the Hawks. After closely watching the Tigers/Hawks game, what was really clear was the slow but steady onset of more and more fumbling due to pressure and intimidation by Richmond. This is something those listed above can continue on Friday.

I think Harmes has a bright future with the MFC, just love how he gets his own ball too!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
