Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Training - Thursday 9th August, 2018

A cold morning.

A staggered start.

Rehab had Jake Melksham, Michael Hibberd, running and ball work. Mitch King doing light duties with them.

A small group  trained with the running coaches till joined by the rest, absent Max Gawn.

Max on the paddock in track pants and runners. No obvious strapping, walked laps and did a couple of runs.

Drills done professionally.

Cam Pederson, Jayden Hunt and Josh Wagner in the defense during simulations and doing well. Jayden ready for speed and Cam is zoning well.

Lachlan Filipovic was doing some drills with the mids. Though during simulations was ruck practicing with Mitch King and not in the contest.

The intensity of simulations built up as the players made more contact with each other.

Thought Neville Jetta and Jesse Hogan were a bit hampered till they contested, looking good.

The squad trained well.

Wasn't sure where to ask this, but the few weeks the team was a bit flat (Collingwood, Port, St Kilda) - would that have coincided with a heavy block of training?

I remember a few years back or more, the good teams did heavy blocks of training from around the middle of the season for around 4 weeks, then taper off before finals.

A very good observation Clinto?

Its the only way you could explained the loss to the saints, we were very sluggish and tired.

Definitely Port Adelaide circa. 2015 Clint. But none of the track-watchers seem to have brought it up. The spate of soft-tissue issues may need an explanation though.

Worried about our ruck stocks in the situation where we have Maxy and then daylight to our next legitimate ruckman with some serious doubts as to whether either Mitch King or Lachie Filipovic are going to make it.

I hope Goodwin’s comments about Max being good to go for Sunday are on the mark because otherwise we are going to have to rely on makeshift ruckmen like TMac and Pedo.

Ramping up training would be hard to see on the track as i assume most of the aerobic and strength  work happens on the other days, for instance in the gym.

I think it is very likely they did a heavier block of training withe the aim of tapering for the finals.

Richmond resting Nankervis this weekend, we don't have that luxury.

I suspect that if they're worried about Max, then it would actually be Weideman that would come in to ruck.

We have one forced change with Smith out, but it will be interesting to see if they make another one.  I wouldn't be surprised if Hunt comes in for Smith and maybe Cam for Bernie who looks off the pace.

That can't possibly be true. Otherwise someone's lying when they say they're not thinking about finals and just worrying about the next game and getting the four points and not talking about the 'f' word and...

Any action at Goshes today?

Training was yesterday. Goody mentioned a Saturday session in his presser yesterday but I don't know if it's an open session or at Goschs or how you can have a closed session on a field that is open to public viewing.

Gees it would be nice if we could make the finals one year before worrying about tapering off.

Surely we did not compromise mid year games with heavy training to be fresh in September??    it would be nice to have some excuse for that St Kilda debacle though

no way you train the day before a game.  sounds like a fitness test to me.

Gawn in particular needs fresh legs to run out a game. light jogging and a couple of run throughs will be it you'd reckon

I suspect goody is more focused on doing some damage in rhe finals than just making it to the finals. As he had said often it is rhe team that develops the most that wins flags.

They’ll train tomorrow but it will be a light session. It’ll be a lot of touch work, stoppage work and 1 on 1 contest work. And maybe some light simulation work.

True enough. I am really confident we will though. I reckon we will win all of our last 3 games, or at least 2 from 3. With a weeks rest post season before the finals we will be in tip top shape.

Speaking of which haven't seen DrD post in a while. Iam leaning to an early era Watts for his new avatar;

It is called the Captain's Run goes for about a hour, turn the legs over, not much contact work for obvious reasons

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
