Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I think Spargo provided precisely the sort of input the FD required yesterday. For a player as vulnerable to big hits as him, he doesn't appear that scared by it and he puts everything in the line in every contest. He'll keep playing believe me.

Couldn't agree more. Big fan.

He doesn't panic or drop chest marks and can reliably hit targets. Clutch goals in close are also a speciality when compared to others. Not as quick as JKH but I'll take the above.

I actually think they both need to be in the 22.

LOL...  ok but, who gets dropped?

Frost has been playing well, and I doubt O Mac gets dropped. Was only 8 days ago he took Jenkins to the cleaners.

I do like Frost (except for that kick) and O. McDonald has been solid this year but I just worry who he will match up on if there isn't a Jenkins-style forward in the opposition.

AFL website.

They have Hannebery as Test and Rohan 2 weeks, which was before this weekends game v Pies.

I think our best can win, but I've seen too many letdowns over the years to not get ahead of myself.

I feel like getting ahead of myself...

I reckon the Swans are like an old prize fighter at the moment and they got up off the deck for one last punch against the Pies.

I will be very disappointed if we don't bury them on the weekend.

Would considering Hunt be too early for a senior recall? I just think with the wide open G' and Sydney lacking some pace, having Hunt off half back to replace Smith would be our most ideal scenario.

For me:

OUT: Smith, JKH
IN: Hunt, Melksham

I think people are underestimating the influence Joel Smith has had on our backline - he provides pace, an ability to play on smalls and talls, he loves snagging a tackle and he intercepts really well. I accept that he's still learning the game (he's only played about eight) and his kicking choices at times are a little off, but I reckon he's been a sensational Mr FixIt since replacing Lever and he's one of the chief reasons why we are not all bemoaning the lack of pace that others possess down back.

I know Wiseblood disagrees, but I reckon outside of Salem, he's the one player from our back seven who we cannot cover because of his flexibility.

We can bring in Hunt to provide the dash and tackle pressure - but he is not capable of outmuscling a big. We can bring in Wags who can provide the leap and is more precise with his kicking, but he's just not as quick when teams break through our press and he's a left-footer - we've got plenty of those. We can bring in Pedo and we'll get an honest worker with a thumping kick, but if we do we are back to being the slowest side in the league that was exposed by the Pies and Tigers.

I actually have three changes to fix our issues down back  - that's how crucial Smith is.

Firstly, we need some marking confidence down back and unfortunately for the past six weeks Oscar has lost his mojo in that area. This is not a crime, he is a kid after all. But he needs to go back and spend two weeks in the twos as  the dominant man so that he can return eager to play his role in the finals. At the moment he looks worried the minute he is isolated down back near the goal square, so Frosty is now preferred for that role. Further to that Pedo has been playing even better than his normal reliable self and provided there is a slowish match up, then he is our best bet as our second tall defender until O-Mac's mojo returns. McCartin is a slowish match-up and he's a kid and Pedo should be able to exploit him and peel off for a few intercept marks. And as with Oscar, Pedo's the smoothest, cleanest kick in the side.

The second change is that Hunt has to come in this week, otherwise we will just be too slow down back against the Swans who have been forced to go small because of injuries. More than likely Jetta will have to play on Ronke and Hunt is quick enough to play on Papley or Rohan if he is rushed back.

The third change is that we may need to bring in Wags to counter Parker or Heeney's aerial ability when they play forward - effectively play Smith's role on the third tall. It's a tricky call because it means Bernie is pushed out of our backline. The question is whether Bernie is then sent forward where he can provide nuisance value and utilise his smarts and his kicking skills or just dropped again. But the forward line is where I'd like to see him play out this season and finish his terrific career because Lewis is too slow to play anywhere else than down back and our former Hawk is a lovely reader of the game and clever outlet - nine times out of 10 anyway.

If that means JKH or Spargo misses, then so be it. Both are young, both are working their butt off and developing, but with so much at stake, they aren't quite strong enough yet to regularly make an impact. Vanders is strong enough, he just isn't game-fit yet, but he'll get there and he's the ideal type for the Swans. Obviously if Melky is fit, then one of them has to make room anyway.

In: Pedo, Hunt, Wagner (Melky if fit)

Out: O.Mac, J.Smith, JKH/Spargo

B: Jetta (Ronke) Frost (Buddy) Lewis

HB: Hunt Pedo (McCartin) Salem

C Jones Brayshaw Tyson

HF: ANB T.Mac Vince

F: Garlett Hoges Petracca

Ru: Gawn Harmes Oliver

Int: Vanders, Wags, Fritsch, JKH/Spargo

Who was on that Sun today - bobbed up and bagged five.

Cover Buddy then there’s Ronke

Whoever it was there are two likely dl responses.

1. Omac was on him

2. Small defenders get a free pass. It is only kpds that are heldcaccoubtable for forwards kicking bags.

I was wondering this, too.  If Syd aren't all that tall up fwd, Goody may prefer to keep changes to a minimum.  If so, we may already have sufficient cattle to cover the back half...

Doesn't work anymore - coaches have woken up to him and block his path and zone up on his kick

If he plays, I'd play him forward....find a new string to his bow

Why are people wanting Pedders to come in when we have O Mac and Frost as key defenders?

Because without Joel we'll be lacking a 3rd tall intercept player.  And Pedders is the only logical alternative with AFL cred (albeit he has dropped away a fair amount from his form in prior years ?

agree Jumbo

as I posted a few weeks back the modern line breaker runs about 10 metres ...just enough to stretch the zone.

Hunt really has to reinvent himself.Watched him at Casey several times and even at that level he rarely got any run going.

Hunt at his best used his speed to defend and to run in to space to receive as much as he did to have those big breaking runs through the middle. Coaches have caught up to the big run and the game has got faster with less plodders to run by but speed from half back is still a valuable weapon. Just don't think Hunt was fit and healthy at the start of the year. Was hands on hips after every effort instead of making the defensive play and then flicking straight in to attack. I don't think 1 VFL game will be enough to have him at his peak fitness. A couple more games at Casey and he could be an option either down back or up forward if they lose all faith in Garlett.

From the HBflank, this may be a chance to give OMAC an opportunity to shine due to the lack of talls at the Swans. I would give him a try from the bench during the game. If Melk plays, Jones could HBFlank it well, I'd reckon, and Hunt or Kent could come in for some grunt and footspeed.

Wow, there’s talk of Hannebery and Rohan returning and the plunge is on us?

Indeed. I read somewhere post game that Goody said something like Pedo had been playing good footy down back at Casey. Could be on the money Ethan.

If Milkshake is right he'll come back. Vanders did ok first game back so JKH is on thin ice.

Agreed, it is odd. $1.33 on TAB and they moved the line out from -17.5 to -21.5.

Talk about revisionism. Hunt was OUT of the side because he wasn't getting near it. Now, he's had a huge slab of the season out, but after one very average game back in the VFL, he's a "must in"?

Beggars belief doesn't it.

Please. My views on OMac are well known so I won't rehash them but even his most ardent supporters wouldn't countenance OMAc playing anywhere else but FB.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
