Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just a human psychology thing I reckon - the bar went through the roof in the first quarter and was completely unreachable after that.  Everyone was ready for the next thrill which didn't come. Almost like a come-down/withdrawals.  Hopefully most can see the reality now that the emotion has passed!

We played very ordinary football in the second. And the umpiring in the last was terrible.

Not the club that is for sure  .. we might pick up 100k as per the arrangement with the MCC Trust but that would be it.

There is a reason why we sell off games to the NT for $800k per game.  The AFL gift us up to 7 home games per season against interstate teams so the selling off of games becomes mandatory.

You've got to balance the books.

At 3:20pm on a Sunday in winter...

We cruised to that win, didn’t get out of second gear.

Yep ... but the first quarter was ultra-impressive ET.  We blew them away like a good side should.

After that,  it was all academic.  We were a little wasteful at times but most of the teams have that trait these days.  Except perhaps Richmond when they are on song.

The next 3 weeks are the games that we can all look forward to.  In fact,  every game from here on in will be a test.  We'll find out soon enough what we're made of.

That's what we have to deal with ... think I'm right in saying that for a 4 year stretch from 2011 we were drawn to play 29 home games out of 44 against interstate opposition.

Facing that reality we've had to sell off games to the NT ... $800k per game is reasonable compensation though,  all the same.  But give us 5 or 6 home games against Essendon,  Richmond,  Collingwood,  Geelong,  Hawthorn & Carlton every season and we have no such dilemma.

Sure,  today was an easy kill but we've effectively lost money from the game.  Multiply that by 6 and we've got a real issue.  So we sell games to balance things up.

The game went the opposite of how I thought it would. I expected a crappy, low scoring first quarter followed by us pulling our socks up in the second and third.

Instead, we played breathtaking football (even accounting for the low quality of the opposition) for the first 30 minutes and then took the foot off the pedal considerably.

Some of the second and third quarters was just terrible from us. Too many turnovers but, worse, too many forward 50 forays breaking down at half forward (our biggest problem).

That's nitpicking a bit but we should still be looking at how we can improve even when we win by 96.

Thought Salem was outstanding today. Every time he goes near it I feel comfortable. A much harder edge has developed in his game. I was also impressed with Garlett's work rate - much better two-way running and he got involved a lot more as a result.

I'm not sold on JKH and if we didn't have the injuries we do have, I wouldn't be playing him. I thought VDB was just OK, nothing special. Should get at least another game and another crack to get up to AFL speed but he's another who wouldn't be playing if we didn't have injuries.

Terrible luck for Smith. I thought he showed something today, more than previous weeks. A lot more dash and a willingness to get involved in the offensive part of the game. Just awful to see him do the other shoulder.

Really looking forward to Sydney. They can't score outside of Franklin and I think we match them well in the middle. But the pressure is right on us now and with Sydney's experienced heads also under pressure, it should be a ripper.

Frost is doing a great job, I think he has been watching vision of Lever. I would give him the job on Buddy and as a smokey move Tmac if Buddy finds some sort of form against us, We actually have the tools to keep buddy quiet.

I like the comment about the bar being set high in the 1st QTR, when you see that you just want to watch more and more of it.

Garlett doing defensive efforts in the back line was a pleasure to see, he's looking interested, this is huge news for us, I always say a little prayer that mentally he is 'on' before a game.

Oliver - woo hoo, this resting forward thing works well.

Harmes - cut from the same cloth as ANB, just keeps working to make himself better, has found some good endurance.

Hogan is still looking proppy, I am concerned, his heart and head are ok but I wasn't sure this was a game he needed to play. I gave him votes, I did love that even with an injury he still puts his arms out for marks, he's putting his body on the line.

ANB I know I'm a booster, but this bloke never stops trying to get better.

Tyson played a little more outside and was cleaner with his disposal, he is best 22 for mine.

Can anyone tell me how far the Gawn barrel went? From the broadcast it looked like Gawn kicked it 75 m to Tmac chest (would have been 3 brownlow points to Gawn if Tmac had kicked the goal) Tmac, seemed to not have any luck today.

Could prattle on about all the other players, everyone showed what they can do at their best, keen to see the next three weeks and who does the same stuff under adversity.

I thought Dew played the Suns to learn rather than to stem the scoring. I thought they were positive, they still have some good players, rumours of their demise are exaggerated - yes the experiment is in trouble, but a few things change and I could see them improving, I thought Dew being bold enough to do press shows he is not a nervous sort and just the guy for the job. Witts played his heart out, good on him.

I still think with our new whole of team defensive mindset we are a huge threat for the finals, our scoring will continue to mean we start games with the initiative, we are just devastating offensively. Personally I feel we are a even money chance to win the next 3 games, with the Giants run of injuries today and West Coast in trouble as well, I would say we are favourites for Syd/GWS and even money for Perth (barring anymore injuries of our own. Against Syd I think we will win by at least 6 goals.

JKH Vince and vdB not currently in my best 22, seriously want to know which Hunt will come back, he plays his best footy it is Houli like and would really complement - Viney and Hibberd the obvious two to come back for finals.

Sad as it is, Bernie is on his last legs. He probably knew it in his guts at the start of the year when he said he was happy to play some games at Casey.

That being said, he has been worth his weight in gold with what he has bought to the club. I would appreciate if he considered himself as a Crow at the end of his career, but he has left a huge mark on this club for the better.

Not much of a mention for Brayshaw so far but I thought some of his work in the middle was outstanding today.

He's evolving in a way I didn't expect. Nimble in traffic. And is also developing a good rapport with Clarry.

A sloppy 96 point win if such a thing exists. I’m already thinking about next week and I suspect some of the players were too.

Bag the percentage and onto the Swans.

I think that old adage of them pulling us down to their level was true at times today.  Overall though, I thought we played with good disipline and didn't lairise when wee were clearly well on top.  I'd anything, I think there were both periods of the game where it lacked intensity, but equally periods when Gold Coast had a good crack and took the game on by attacking hard.

After quarter time, Gold Coast were actually somewhat free to play like they had nothing to loose and that could have been dangerous for us.  I think we did well to be patient and grind out those periods when Gold Coast threw everything at us, but then capitalise when we has the momentum.

Can we talk about Gold Coast for a minute. I feel very sorry for their players. Honestly can you blame a star like Lynch for leaving? They have no soul, no support, the AFL threw them in the league, gave them an Ablett who didn’t give a flying f about the club, and are leaving them to struggle. They are in trouble.

We do have an weakness in lack of outside pace. I’m most situations , against most teams, we are skilful and disciplined enough to more than cover it. But the weakness is there to be exploited by the best/quickest sides. Collingwood has, or rather (before injuries) had that ability. I think GWS has it, ditto Tigers of course. Eagles I have not seen enough to say. That’s going to be our challenger over the next phase.

I will always hold a special place in my heart for the team that traded us pick 3 in the 2015 draft ?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
