Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think your right  'hw',  Re the 70's and 80's... possibly not much before that...  and maybe not so since the mid noughties.

Skilled on both sides seemed to take a backward step, maybe around the advent of the flood...?

And also,  going full time Pro,  they are inside the club/gym for so much time,  do they have less free time.?

Having said what I said, there probably has always been the motivated individual and the pack animal. Back in the 1970s, I remember watching the Hawks do some of their pre-season down at a local athletics track and the difference in attitude between individual and team was marked.

Most players including premiership players would not start their warm-up until the fitness guy turned up and blew his whistle. This was the complete opposite to the attitude of athletes in training who started their warm-ups without needing to be told. At the same time, there were a minority of players such as Michael Tuck who were out running laps without anyone telling them to do so.

Yep, I guess early sixties to late sixties things were starting to change, regarding skills.    Including seeing that best-kick show, on WOSport.

Barassi and other coaches demanded excellence...  more and more,  I guess money was starting to whisper into players ears.   And with more money, footy started to rise as a payed occupation.

In that WOS footy show, they highlighted Both sides of the body, Re skills.

Supreme fitness and dual sided skills were becoming the weapons of choice.

Yep spot on.

We knew Barassi demanded supreme fitness when he went to the Blues and North.

At North, Brian Dixon preceded Barass. Last year, a past North player told me that despite Dixon's poor coaching record, he was the first coach to get the side fit. He went about transforming attitudes and behaviour on the training track.  Although he got little credit, the past player told be that this was important foundation to the successful Barassi years.

If you are going to quote someone use their word not yours. I did not say typical bully. If you chose to read posts you may find the answer therin and not need to ask someone to confirm what has been clearly written in a post only just above. You may read my posts and you may comment on my posts but do not put in things which I have not said. Furthermore as a very recent poster you may find others suspicious of your motives for being here and saying unusual things. I suggested that I thought you a troll or an idiot, that is unfair and I am sorry. But I do think you are trolling. If you are suggesting I am a bully I suggest you re read our conversation and perhaps you may understand my attitude. I don't think I will bother to reply to you again. Cheers

Just following the  'Kennedy's commando's',  of the early 60's.

" Tactically,  he was considered by some - most notably, Geelong coach Bob Davis  -  as crude.

When he took over as coach of Hawthorn in 1960, his strategy was to radically increase the physical fitness of his players and then up the tempo of the game so that opposition teams were worn out. "

My biggest concern in that clip ....the lack of apparent love/care/mateship for Jeffy?

Like to see the boys, and Goody, get around him a bit more.

A few more indigenous players wouldn't hurt either.  Skills/finish are usually sublime.  Tim Kelly would be awesome if he wasn't home sick.

Jeffy was the first player Goody went to RN when the siren blew and gave him a massive cuddle, as if to say “what a tackle Jeffy” late in the game.

fwiw, on Footy Classified last week Caroline Wilson mentioned in passing there was an issue between Macca and Jennings.  She didn't elaborate but her tone suggested it wasn't serious or lasting.

Suspect Morris made it a mountain out of a molehill.  As Pert said, challenging dialogue in coaches meetings is healthy.

Morris is probably bitter for being kicked off the mfc podcast last year after going to press with some selection changes ahead of official announcement.

I don't think it is correct as Goodwin wasn't on the inside mfc podcast after round 1 last year.

As I recall it Morris was solidly 'pushed' he didn't 'quit'.  Either way he put his work brownie points before the privileged access position at a football club.  Poor form to abuse a privilege like that.  Deserved what he got.

Yeap. He was on the podcast and dropped the Goody “story”, Goody was on the next week... Morris wasn’t on it and then next ep it was said he decided to focus on his media role and not have a conflict with the podcast... pushed, quit or mutual decision he had a chance to discuss his story with Goody and didn’t.

Correct, i was watching very closely to see who did what after the final siren.

Seemed all to be very genuine with every coach and player embracing.

I noticed a destinct tinker in our game style to more run, carry and link with hand ball. Ground ball differencial in the F50 was of the charts.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. Harrison Petty, JvR, Jack Billings, Kade Chandler, Kozzy, Bayley Fritsch, and coach Stafford.  The backs join them, Steven May, Jake Lever, Woey, Judd McVee, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
