Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interesting Geelong have the one tall up forward that being Tom Hawkins, they've also gone in with the one ruckman in Rhys Stanley.

Not sure he is technically a ruckman. It’s more appropriate to refer to him as a AFL player that plays a variety of roles very badly.

It will be a bloodbath in the ruck like last week. The advantage we will have there is massive.

Im sure the Cats have spent all week studying tapes of Max and trying to work out ways to shark his taps or at least curtail his dominance a bit.  If they dont come up with something that works, we will roll them comfortably.

If Dom finds himself on the wing at any point, I'm convinced Goodwin isn't a good coach. Tyson is one dimensional and contested, can win the ball and should be in the guts 100% of his time on the ground. leave him there.

sooooo...who's the alternate to J.Smith, and why?

Pedo ... but everyone knows I would say that. He hurts people and puts them off their game. He takes on anyone and with ground support, turns adversity into winners. Just for one week in the backline; he didn't make it again, so it's goodnight from me and goodnight from him.

I wonder if Scott Selwood goes to Oliver or Brayshaw?  I feel like both have the ability to shake that tag, but I have no doubt they'll look to curb the influence of one of them.  It makes Tyson's inclusion all the more important in terms of him working his backside off at each contest he gets to.

Max could break the all time hitout record up against Stanley and Blicavs who aren't even proper ruckmen

I am wondering who will cover Blicavs. Can murder sleepy backmen. Can pop up in the midfield for the occasional possibility. Rank him like Menzel; difficult to contain.

Blicavs has been flaying FB, he’ll play on Hogan or TMac

That expectation of Tyson's role is causing a headache. We should take the opposite view with Selwood. He goes to no-one; the Dees go to him and take him out of the game. He can be starved of the football and when desparate, his 'little free kick' tricks come into play; this is when we expose his antics and just thump him.

Yep, MSF, but he does feature for some time in the ruck - as a relief, I guess - and that is when he, in cruise mode between contests - slinks to off-midline flanking areas, becomes a target for longer kicks and usually, takes these and plays on/handballs to good effect. He only needs to do this a couple of times a match and his morning toast once again has marmalade in abundance as the Catty Puts charge forward to goal, at which they are rather clever.

Geelong would back themselves to read Gawns tap work and potentially draw level in that part of the game. If that fails Scott could choose to concede the tap and then setup to pressure our first possession so it's a 50/50 at the tap or possible turn over on the next possession in defence. Even though we should have the advantage in the ruck it may not result in dominance on the scoreboard if Geelong set up to nullify our possession after the clearance which they have done in the past.

A couple of years ago before they had Dangerfield sometimes they would concede a clearance and set up their offence from the next possession by working on winning the ball back via a turnover.

Can a conspiracy theorist tell me the last game we lost because of the umpires

A few answers to your questions have already been provided further on in this post. I agree with each of these answers - and some more!

There is a situation that comes most recently to my mind having carefully watched the game last week against the Doggies within an assemblage of very keen footballing addicts who were astounded at umpiring decisions and interference with game flow across the first half of the match.

If it were not for the umpires and the deliberately challenging and incorrect decisions made in the first and second quarters of the match last week at the MCG against the Fleabags, the Dees would have been around 9-10 goals ahead at the half-time break. It did not result in a loss, thankfully, as the switch was turned on by the magnificent three: Gawn, Oliver and Brayshaw. At any rate, such play fully negated the umpires' intents - particularly those of Razor Ray - where any umpiring disagreements with what the Dees were doing from the 6 minute mark of the third quarter to the last gasp of the final quarter would have been far too obvious to intercede - and to get a cop at the loot next week - anyway, they had already 'evened up' the game as much as they could!

NB: Razor is the new Nurayev of the 'G - his graphically elaborate crouch, delayed two-arm swing and gracious footwork that points his bum to heaven (when calling a 'incorrect disposal') is a sight to behold. His decision-making is just as absurdly constructed.

The weather looks kind for us on Saturday night. No rain and no wind forecast. Hopefully it stays like that. Will be a disaster for us if wet and windy like tonight.  The cats no doubt will try to burn us off with pace on transition. Hope the structures hold up.

Looking forward to seeing what Tyson will bring now that he should be given major minutes in the middle, can he be the player that we all hoped only a few years back, as he has the next 4 weeks to prove it, at only 25 he should still have more upside in him I hope.

Why is it that Cats more than any other team put the fear of god in me. On form they are as gettable as they have been since we last beat them down there a few year back, we should have no fear but I can’t shake the feeling that something bad will happen

Jarred knee sounds like the most minor  injury going around.

I’d say Hannan was dropped and they were just being polite.

At wednesdays training he was in the rehab group doing light duties. He joined the main group for awhile but did not engage in contact work. The injury is probably genuine.

The key is to hold Hawkins. Play omac on him. Hawkins will be able to out joust Frost too easily. Their forward line isn't that good. I would put dangerfield into the turf early and hard.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
