Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Like the Ins and outs,   hope Garlett gets his mojo back   and I think Petracca is very lucky that 5 changes would have seemed like panic stations.   Go Dees       fingers and legs crossed

I agree with others that this is a better side. Stretch offers more for 2 way running than Tyson. Hannan needs a rest, and an extra forward is a good thing with the supply we get.

Personally would have liked to see them give Petty another week. No doubt his debut was.... Underwhelming let's say... But I would have thought if we saw enough, we could have told the kid we back him and given him that confidence at the start of his career. Having said that, good to see Frosty getting a chance.

So everyone likes the inclusions with several hunting that these were obvious and should’ve been done a month ago. What will you all whinge about if they play poorly

There’s simply no way they could’ve played him again. His confidence taking a knock from being dropped is the lesser evil compared to playing a kid who clearly isn’t ready for AFL level for a second week in a row in what is already a very shaky defence.

A lot of us did

This is just hindsight bias. Go back and read the same thread from last week. Plenty had nominated Weideman in on the back of a breakout game at Casey, just as plenty were pleased to see Petty - who'd been doing well in the VFL - coming in for Vince, who many here had been calling for to be dropped all season.

Neither Spargo or Garlett did particular well in their last games in the AFL, and neither of them have done particularly well at Casey since. They're in because of the conditions in Darwin, but they've hardly been banging the door down.

Aren't we forgetting that Garlett has been very underwhelming in the magoos? What happened to rewarding form at VFL level?

Inconsistent selection choices yet again imo

I'd normally agree with you Moonie, but I think it's time for Garlett to get another crack.  We need a spark down there and he's served his time at Casey.  Fingers crossed he can snag 3 or 4 goals for us on Saturday night!

Great changes. Amazing how much better the side looks with some pace!

Petty seems like a great young player but seemed completely out of his depth last weekend. Frost should've been included straight after Lever tore his ACL. While his disposal leans more towards the 'tear your hair out' kind, he provides us with some much needed dash out of our defensive 50. Can take a mark as well.

Garlett and Spargo in the same side is something I've wanted to see for a while. Hopefully Jeffy can re-consolidate his position in the 22. He may have the occasional stinker, but our forward line is far more dangerous when he's at the crumb of the ball. He's won a fair few games off his boot over the last few years.

Also very pleased for Billy Stretch. I think he's unfairly judged by many supporters. He's still very young and I've seen him do some very clever things in the senior side. I'm hoping he's given a few weeks to show his ability.

Also, I'm looking forward to the end of the bad old days when selection was literally a revolving door. I don't think Weidemann was the right selection last week because I want him to kick goals consistently, not just against ordinary teams like Coburg, before he gets a promotion. Once he's earned the promotion he needs to be given at least 4 or 5 weeks to prove himself, not one week, out the next. That treatment demoralises players and makes them wonder what the hell they're doing at a club in the first place. Weidemann will be a great player for us if we start to treat him fairly.

And, just for the records, how heartening to see the consistent efforts of Frost rewarded and how good is it to see the mighty Jeffy back. There are many among us and you who want him to be who he's not. He will never kick a swag while we continue to play the long range bomber game, while every kick forward sees ten wanna be high fliers attempting to outmark each other. That's kids' stuff. We need to be better than that.

And, finally, please give Stretch a 4 game run. The kid has got it. Give him time to show it. If we are playing decent footy players like Stretch will evolve their way in. Playing him one week, dropping him the next is bullshite.

Welcome back Mr Spargo. I like the boy.

And thank god we didn't bring in Baker. That would have signalled wailing panic stations to me.

lol...ahh got to love the angst

many have for alonf while given serious stick to the selections..You deny that fine.  ( as per example..tonight  almost EVERYONE is FOR the selections..this is rare ) . its more than just last week Bing...just saying

All players have ups and downs..but its their core ability you have to go with sometimes. I think this is just such a time. Height  ( too much ) is unnecessary up there...in the heat and humidity...he who stands up longest will win.

Both Spargo and jeffy have something practically no one else in the team has...X factor...can make something out of nothing..I dare say Trac has some...on his day..  Maybe theyll all lhave a GOOD WIN this game

Weve struggled to keep the ball in our 50...and struggled to make use of the ground ball...  Jeffy and Spargo  should fix this

My other post suggests Spargo might play a high HFF role..so in a fashion doing a little of what Tyson does around the wing.

VFL is another world...different metrics ought to be used..  imho

On a side note, Nathan Jones plays his 254th game for the Demons this weekend and goes level with Brad Green on number six on the list of most games played for the club.

Run Run Run. Good to see we are finally attempting to address our deficiency with some more balance forward, mid and back. Also good to see rewarding form. Stretch deserves a good run at it, Spargo should never have been out and Jeffy will never put on a show at VFL but 7 tackles should say enough about intent.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
