Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is Jeffy Garlett just trade bait now?

Spargo and Tim Smith in first.

But with Jeff it's getting to the stage where you just throw him back in and see what happens. 7 tackles is better. Although watching the second half of Casey there were numerous times Garlett was afraid to go get the ball and skipped over it or meekly flung an arm out.

Team mates lose faith in guys who don't go when it's their turn and that's not what we need right now even if the speed would help.

And team mates love goals.

Smith is an entirely different type to Jeffy ( role )  Just how many do we need to fly for a mark ??

Garlett is an intuitive player... He doesnt fit the new mould that the FD have created. Jeffy knows when zigging is preferential to zagging..A lot of our lot just zag now because they are told to zag....and they all zag in each others way.

Jeffy will find it hard to get back in the side whilst some block the door ( and they might not be players  ;) )

Jurrah wouldnt get a game today for us

Were you for or against Watts going last year, LH ?

Hope that isn't a 'loaded' question...

...I respect your posts so will take it at face value and say I was against Watts going.

...not sure what Watts has to do with this thread...

I find it strange to tell the truth that a fwd pocket sneak ...whos probably capable of 30-40 goals a year in a canter is judged as though he was a back pocket defender.

All seems back to front.

I'd like to see the club put as much effort into pressing the right buttons to get the magic out of Jeff as they do with their box-ticking at VFL level.

We've all seen him hot and cold and getting back in the team in the past hasn't been on the back of VFL form. He's also switched from being hot and cold and vice versa in the space of a game.

I'd rather see him crumbing than ANB any day of the week.

I'd also hate to see him lost to the habits/behaviours/journeys/narrative pulava.

Whilst acknowledging my bias towards having him in the team and hoping there aren't other reasons for his omissions, I see so many occasions where he'd make something of nothing in our (occasionally dysfunctional) forward line.

loaded, I don't think so?

No, what I'm getting at is that watts and garlett both suffer the similar weaknesses. And both are feeling the same treatment in response.

So I think the writing is on the wall for any on our list, that don't like to, or won't put the head in, when its required.

Jeffy didn't get any love from Goodwin in his press conf yesterday when asked about possible ins next week.

Can someone please remind me what he did wrong to get dropped?  He was on track for a 45-50 goal season, had good tackle numbers and reasonable clearances numbers when asked to play midfield.  And, last hear he was in the top 3 small forwards for forward pressure.

He is our most dangerous small forward, has footy smarts and the experience to go with them.  So I don't get the lack of love.  Are our players with flair and talent who can impact a game being overlooked for the solid citizens?

His possessions weren't high but a small forward is never going to get a lot of the ball (either at AFL or VFL) so if that is what everyone is waiting for, then he may never get back.  As noted above his other 2016/17 stats and form showed he was tracking well, given that we lost most of the 2017 games he played in so he wasn't the only one down on form.

I hope the coaches aren't trying to make him another vanilla hybrid-forward/mid.

He played well against Brisbane and snuck on the end of a few against North but his games against Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond were about as bad as I've seen from an AFL player.

He wasn't getting front and centre to the packs, he wasn't tackling and particularly against Richmond and Hawthorn where he had 6 and 5 possessions he didn't even want the ball. There were moments in both of those games where he had a chance to run on to a loose ball under very little pressure and refused to do so.

The coaches aren't going to just put a guy straight back in after they've done that. And Garlett has been doing that since about half way through last year when a near AA season turned in to very poor form and bad habits in the second half of the year.

It's also worth noting that whilst he's probably better suited in a different role that Hannan has actually done the job more weeks than not until recently. He had a poor game against the Pies but bounced back with a good pressure effort against the Power (as did the entire side) and had 5 shots on goal. Had an absolute stinker against St Kilda and it might cost him his spot.

if the club wants another look at jeffy then darwin would be the most obvious game to do it

not only do we have problems in fwd conversion but jeffy generally puts on a good performance in the warmer NT

we need to find out if he's a keeper and this is a good opportunity

Why is it that every player has to be a hard at it defender? IMO part of the problem at the Dees is we are trying to change the way every player plays. Why is our best Full forward being played way up field? Back to basics might help. Play the full forward at full forward and play the half forward there as well.

And I could accept that team mantra of every player being a hard at it defender if we were defending but we are failing miserably to defend up forward or through the midfield which then leaves our actual defenders, shall we say defenceless!

All the better sides have worked us out, it’s time for a change in stratgies, Spargo, Jeffy and Stretch need some game time.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
