Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thats exactly my problem with selection, think we have screwed up, Omac takes someone but they have 3-4 other talls including Dixon/Westoff. I hope its not a massive blunder but I'm less confident than I was.

That's two.  But I get your drift.

The selection committee clearly believe the team we've selected can handle their forward line.  With Frost, Petty and potentially Kielty waiting in the wings, it's not as if we don't have the coverage down back if we want it.  But we didn't use it for a reason.

If Dixon kicks 6 and Westhoff kicks 4 then I'll say we've screwed up.  But I think we are going for the game style we've used all year and backing it - winning clearances, getting it forward and locking it in there for large amounts of time.  This takes the pressure off the backline and allows us to set up our wall and support each other in the contest.

3-4 other talls

including

 Dixon/Westoff

Yes, the other two are Ryder and Marshall.

Happy to back in the match committee WB but my MFCSS is creeping in after watching them the last two weeks. Mids/leadership in the guts critical tonight.

I think Frost was a safe bet considering their talls and frees up Hibberd and Smith to flanks where they should be playing anyway

Marshall doesn't worry me and Ryder doesn't spend much time forward these days.  He's only kicked 4 goals for the season.

I get why some might feel as though we've gone in small, but I'm not worried by that.  My concern is the midfield and getting on top in there.  We have the talent to do it, we just need to put it together tonight and ensure we come out on top for the majority of the evening.

Marshall doesn't worry in the sense of goalkicking, nor does Ryder, it's who they take re our defenders which frees up the others that is of concern.

It really is such an important game, lose and makes it hard for top 4, should be a cracker

About to hit the road from Mildura for tonight’s blockbuster. The car is packed with 5 dees supporters locked and loaded.

Never been to Adelaide Oval for a night match. Very excited.

We are in the general admin/standing area which I’m guessing gets pretty feral. Is it worth donning the full dees kit or not worth the trouble from the locals?

Last year at the Crows game I had the full kit on while standing on the hill, they thought it was cute and chuckled as we went up for our first few goals... they get a little stroppy as the game wore on.

Yeah, thats what its like isnt it.

We can have a great run of wins, but 1 poor game and the doubt come racing back immediately.

Trust is something thats going to take a lot of time to build, considering our recent (and not so recent) history.

A win tonight would help ofc, but i dont think we have it in us yet.

Whatever happens tonight, i still think we will make the finals. I guess thats trust after all.

"Trust but verify", made famous by Ronald Reagan, sums your post up quite neatly.

Port rarely draw a crowd.

Therefore there is also General admin seating in the top of the stand at the river end, if the Ferals turn ugly, which they will when they start losing :.)

Ill be in the full gear - loud and proud!

I hope we play like we did in the first half against them last year and the second half like we did against Adelaide over there last year. Should silence everyone there except Woohoo guy and @McQueen.

looking forward to pacing around my lounge room all night in what I’m expecting will be a nail biter.

I think you're confusing cheating with incompetence. And not just the umpires, but the whole Umpiring Department and the AFL's footy department.

That is seeking unfair advantages onfield. Such behaviour is more than incompetence, it is cheating. A deliberate act to legitimise an inate bias.

Like that Frosty usage, the same for Hibbo and Smith. Got it wrong again, Simon.

I really would like to know if there's a data set containing teams playing, frees for against, umpires in game, frees awarded by umpire to which team and for what and what quarter and where the game is. Then apply a bit of analysis to see if there's any correlation between umpires and teams.

Anyone aware are of any such data? Anyone here with any R or equivalent experience? Happy to have a play with the data but only new to stats and machine learning

That data set is a very important need to be fulfilled. Supporters, observers and clubs are cramming for details on this issue as it is now such a prevalent occurrence. It ruins the game. The AFL is coaching the umpires to affect certain games in certain ways and so, would do anything to deny or negate such calls for scrutiny - hence, nothing has been done. It is a kangaroo court, a middle ages witch hunt, a caesarian whim. A capitalist monopoly with all of its questionable corruption gone public.

Port Adelaide is the number 1 Clearance side, we are 10th. If that’s anything to go by, we will lose tonight.

Need to see a dramatic improvement in our clearances plus connection between Gawn and Brayshaw/Viney/Oliver.

We’re 6 - 0 away from the MCG this year.

We’re 3 - 0 at the new Adelaide Oval. We accounted for Port twice last season from memory.

We’re 2 - 4 at the MCG this season.

On those facts, I’ll back us in to win tonight. Ironically if it was at the G you’d tip Port. We need to  learn to play our home ground or we’re ever going to get anywhere come finals time!

Dees by 11 points.

Bought the ticket, got a fence seat on the eastern side ($90 mind you) so really looking forward to being up close to the players so I can hurl abuse, pat them on the bum, that sorta thing.

Kicking off at the 2KW rooftop bar around 4pm so should be in fine form come bounce down.

Keep an eye out for me.

Don't really understand the Tyson for Spargo change.

We lose pressure in our forward half and haven't exactly addressed our lack or run/speed through the midfield.

Yeh Tyson is in form but what have we done in regards to match ups? The run of Polec, Ebert and Motlop on the wings?  If Tyson plays wing I won't be happy.

Essendon played it perfectly in the coaches box with match ups last night and sometimes I wonder whether Goodwin is too headstrong for his own good.

I await with interest.

Pretty obvious move for mine. We've lost the stoppages convincingly in the last few weeks, so Tyson's clearance strengths will contribute to our midfield and his weakness of lack of foot speed won't get shown up given Port's slower midfielder.

Have no idea what to expect and If we lose I won't be surprised and if we win I will be happy. Hope to see a big game from Petracca and Hogan after a quiet queen's birthday game.

But we need the win to keep in the top 8 and stay close to the top 4. Plus if we lose the media will just go on and on about us.

I hope our midfield coach has been working overtime this week to fix our centre clearances.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
