Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Believe it or not Richmond proposed moving their training facility to Cragieburn in 2007.

I assume it was to what we now know as Cragieburn Oval... the scene of some JLT games:

RICHMOND is set to adopt Craigieburn as its home away from home as the Tigers look to expand training facilities.
The club is expected to oversee the construction of a top-quality ground in Melbourne's outer north for training and practice matches in a move that has thrilled locals.
A lack of access to Punt Rd Oval during cricket season and the historic ground's smaller dimensions have prompted the 25km move down the Hume Highway.
It is hoped an announcement will be made by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou when he speaks at a Hume City Council business breakfast next Friday.

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/richmond-to-set-up-second-home-at-craigieburn.397751/

And then they threw the cricket club out....

Richmond Football Club will have full access to Punt Road Oval after reaching an agreement with the Richmond Cricket Club that will see it relocate to Mt Waverley.

Add true DJ but still ain't in Richmond.

Casey is not feasible, it's simply too far from where most players will live and will put us at a distinct disadvantage trying to recruit players and will put our current playing group offside (ala St Kildas move to Seaford)

I used to agree with you. Im not sure now. Whats not feasible is the current situation in which  facilities are falling rapidly behind the league  leaders and the admin is separated . Soon its going to be getting in the way of good recruiting as players will look at what we have and be unimpressed . Players will have to adjust to a move. StKilda moved when perhaps it was seen as unnecessary. So, Unless there is a plan underway somewhere else then we're starting to not have a choice. If they sit on this again for years on end  then watch our slide down the ladder in the coming years.

My God have you ever been there? It is size of a postage stamp>

Looking at Google maps , it is about 170 × 170 m (with tennis court area add another 50 meters).  Just enough room to put a field without spectators at the goal ends. Could incorporate the tennis courts next to it in a multi level sport, admin, hospital and parking area.

Only a thought, especially as the MCC may be more accommodating to MFC than councils.

Close to Fawkner or albert park fields during cricket season.

Forget Yarra Park, I think we would be better suited to the Yarra Valley. Good wine, food, close to the snow . That should make the MCC mob happy.

I think there is the perfect location just at the gateway to the Yarra Valley although we’re probably too late. There’s a new housing development in Lilydale close to the train line you could play the whole community benefit rubbish and given the torment this footy club gives us there’s a massive disused quarry we could just bury the whole club at the bottom.

When were competing against 8 other clubs for player signatures it will out us at a distinct disadvantage. Dingley is seen as the boondocks and Casey is another half hour away.

Im not from that side of town and every time I have to drive to the southeast suburbs it's a nightmare. Why would players choose that when they have other options like Collingwood, Richmond, Saints, North, Carlton, Essendon all much closer to civilisation.

Isn't Dingley where Hawthorn are going.  The Hawks are based at Arctic Park it hasn't stop them being able to lure players.  Agree Casey isn't the answer, shame as Casey Fields has every thing you want with space to expand

I don't disagree with your thesis, but should we end up at Casey (which I doubt will happen), we do have something else to sell to prospective players...playing roughly half our games each year at the MCG.

The triangle of land at the S E corner of Goschs. This can be greatly enlarged by putting the freeway off ramp that connects to punt rd underground. There is any amount of money available for tunnels at the moment so lets go for it.

Another solution for those nay sayers ..ie it would be too expensive, well we could do it with pick and shovel. We have 40k members and we could all volunteer, bring a wheel barrow and shovel each, it would only take a a couple of weeks with 40,000 of us singing the club song and digging.

Quite funny really Robert 50 % of that 40k are 70+ including me. Don't think you will get much digging done on our Walking frames.

Love to get your preferred option DV, how many tennis courts do we need? Presumably owned by the state govt and leased to tennis australia? (or something like that) How to get it...? The Punt rd options we just buy.

My Preferred option,  is the last option in my post...  where we have two ovals on Gosch's Paddock, (with the rectangular Pitch moved out to the  'Old Scotch Oval'  site),  and a building as close to the Richmond Railway Station as is possible.

So we would probably need to build over at least 4 of those Clay Tennis courts,  if not all 8 of them.  We could feasibly use the whole area of the Clay Tennis Courts, including

the car-park behind these courts...   which would allow us to build right up to the Railway easements.  And still build above and across Olympic Boulevard, over and onto Gosch's Paddock...  which would be around the Wing position of the To be established Oval...  where the current Rectangular Pitch is,  seen on the Map Image.

'The Punt Rd Options',  as you mention, could work...  but i think to get in much more passing trade,  for cafeteria,  and club shop...  and just catching visitors off the Trains,  who decide at last second to drop in...  because its just so close and convenient.

This is how I think we will attract much more interest and supporters, with a home base so prominent and convenient........  And we could get back the Thursday,  Or sometimes Wednesday evening Training Run @ Gosch's Oval 1...  prior to our Teams announcement,  with Hamburgers and Sausage sizzling,  as we announce Dee teams.

It might not attract those who are swishing 30Yr old Scotches in the long room at the 'G',  or maybe at home... but THee, are already well catered for,  anyway.

I would like to see us set up our administration needs in the southern stand at such time this occurs:

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2019/03/19/serious-mcg-redevelopment-expected-in-next-10-years/

then negotiate training access for a percentage of our time on the G (say 10-20%), and use Goshes for the remaining time. Couldn’t be any closer to the G than that could it?

interesting

when they link the tennis centre precinct with the mcg precinct (over rail lines) as proposed it would be a good chance to add another oval and for it to be the home of the mfc (there would be plenty of room). Other community based facilities could be added. This would transform that whole area into a fantastic multi-sport precinct with great transport (tram and train) at its doorstep and with a mfc home base right in the middle

The oval is currently in beautiful shape. Second smaller oval being redone next door. Ample room for development, in a direct line, only kilometers from the G, but all too late I believe as discussed here previously.

I think I've found our new social club site....

https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/poor-man-s-racehorses-iconic-yarraville-pigeon-clubhouse-to-be-sold-20190609-p51w0b.html

When John Saggers was a boy in the 1960s, pigeons were the "poor man's racehorse".

It seemed to him that every second household in the Yarraville area kept them, and fathers taught their sons how to race them.

There were no computers, and some houses didn’t even have TV, so people spent time outside, be it tending chooks or shooting rabbits.

So he is sad to announce that the club's modest but local landmark hall of 96 years, in Regent Street, will be sold.

At its peak in 1950, the club had more than 60 members. It now has just eight.

Its expenses, including rates and insurance, are about $3000 a year compared to an income of $1000.

We are disappointed but we can no longer afford to keep it,’’ Mr Saggers said. ‘‘It means an era closes.’’

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
