Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ

All State and federal governments are concerned about is increasing female participation numbers or look like they are trying to do this.  Even the Victory announcement was for their Womens team and academy.  We need to expand our club, the facility needs to include Male and female Football, you need to get the Vixens on board and another group, North was the Hub, Pies I think was VIS and the community running/walking hub for the yarra, Richmond has received funds for the Bashar Hawli Academy, Hawthorn is looking at their facility to have high performance Basketball and Netball.

It is almost turning the clock back 30 years to the old Sports Club model, we started this with Team Melbourne, great concept just didn't gain any real momentum.

Join forces with the Vixens look at the land near the State Netball and Hockey centre, there is already Football Ovals there between the centre and the Childrens Hospital, think outside the box with something that can tie into the Children and Women Hospital maybe a secondary rehab center that caters for out patients.  Look at a Ronald Mcdonald house as an extension of the facility.  You need something that will not only benefit the MFC but the broader community

Certainly looks impressive. However, the main purpose of the lights is to stimulate grass growth on the northern side of the arena, that side where the sun doesn’t ascend over the norther stand  roof during winter. Go to the ground on most winter non football days, as I often do and the lights will be on. Also, because it’s a modular system, sections can be positioned at various points on the ground. I’m told that the system is so successful, the grass grows quicker under the lights than under the sun!

Again as previously mentioned, a further impediment to any notion of using the ground as a training facility.

Fawkner Park:

Build with The Alfred hospital, sports medicine and concussion specialists department and three level underground car park.

Assist South Yarra soccer, rugby union, cricket club and other sporting groups in the area.

Create social club that can be utilised by hospital staff, patients and others.

Or develope the;

MCC Albert Ground on the corner of St.Kilda Rd and Roy st. Also close enough as well to partner with The Alfred hospital.

Very true in relation to womens sport and community participation.  I just do not get the Yarra park proposal in terms of building community. As for the G I still remember the day it ceased being our home ground alone. Long, long time ago. I have also never been clear whether Melbourne stands for that small CBD area or greater Melbourne. Certainly in my day suburban kids well outside the CBD and Collingwood were passionate supporters. Time to move move and create something exciting. If it is done right supporters will follow within a reasonable distance of the CBD.

Yep guess what, Tullamarine isn't Windy Hill, Where Hawthorn is going isn't Glenferrie, The Glass house isn't Victoria Park, Lathlain isn't Subiaco, Coogee isn't Fremantle, it is a training head office base, we need to move on from the past and find somewhere to build a future

Perhaps there is a small glimmer of hope, in terms of getting Melbourne Victory out of Goschs.

https://www.melbournevictory.com.au/news/victory-secures-funding-maribyrnong-academy-site

If they were ever to move, then that area currently used as a soccer pitch, alongside Swan st could be used to build something we need.  The Rebels then can have the whole of the inside of AAMI to themselves for training, and wouldn't need their training ground outside either.

That little rectangular piece of training ground is easier to move,  than the pathway thru the middle of Gosch's,  g.o.t.o.

It could easily be placed where the  'Oval'  is now,  alongside Punt Rd.

Or it could even go to,   https://www.google.com/maps/place/Old+Scotch+Oval,+Melbourne+VIC+3004/@-37.8228071,144.9777385,1247m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x6ad642be8381f843:0xfd59321cdd14bf6d!8m2!3d-37.8227429!4d144.9801151

IMO members would probably prefer a dedicated club members bar at the G during home games, bit like the Betty Cuthbert bar, level 2 in the northern stand.

This is the problem of whats been befitting this club for 50yrs.

It's the inner styled thinking,  of what those who are already entrenched into our existing old culture,  think and feel..

It allows NO room,  for others to grow from different areas around the club,  with different interests to those of frequenting stuffy styled inside Mcg bars,  for liquor,  or some sort of tweed status.

Many would like to meet outside the Mcg,  Adjacent to their transport, on the way to and from the Mcg...  where they can enjoy the feel of the outside world,  with views of park lands,  rather than being Kept inside the  'G's'  cauldron.

An outside facility means the people can sit and or stand and relax having gotten off the train,  and also prior to catching their train homeward.

The opportunity is here for this facility now...  that would suit both training days,  and game days, with us situated on Gosch's.

The Mcg is too far from the station,  for those who would like to get comfortable and eat,  drink,  or seek friendly like-minded Demons comapny,  following leaving the ground...  And immediately adjacent to the train that awaits them.

This is where the numbers for growth will come from...  this is where most numbers travel to and from the 'G',   Re our traditional supporter areas and new Casey area...  Richmond Station.

We need to grow the support base from new people,  and eventually new memberships will grow from this.

Just thinking of what suits the same old,  same old,  is what has failed us in the past...   Because  'the old'  does not want Any change.

Growth happens from change.  Decay happens from not refreshing, not changing.    We've been decaying for 50 Years...  trying to stay just as we are,  and has been.

Forget Yarra Park, I think we would be better suited to the Yarra Valley. Good wine, food, close to the snow . That should make the MCC mob happy.

Believe it or not Richmond proposed moving their training facility to Cragieburn in 2007.

I assume it was to what we now know as Cragieburn Oval... the scene of some JLT games:

RICHMOND is set to adopt Craigieburn as its home away from home as the Tigers look to expand training facilities.
The club is expected to oversee the construction of a top-quality ground in Melbourne's outer north for training and practice matches in a move that has thrilled locals.
A lack of access to Punt Rd Oval during cricket season and the historic ground's smaller dimensions have prompted the 25km move down the Hume Highway.
It is hoped an announcement will be made by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou when he speaks at a Hume City Council business breakfast next Friday.

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/richmond-to-set-up-second-home-at-craigieburn.397751/

And then they threw the cricket club out....

Richmond Football Club will have full access to Punt Road Oval after reaching an agreement with the Richmond Cricket Club that will see it relocate to Mt Waverley.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
