Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ

I am not up to date with what has and has not been proposed, but from my professional experience I would be astounded if any Yarra Park proposal would get up, as much as we all may want it to. Taking over historic, heritage parkland, changing the historic layout, removing trees and blocking existing views into the parkland from outside are just a few of the key problems a proposal would face and thus would undoubtably fail.

I think the only location close by that would have a chance of succeeding IMO would be proposing a development on Goshs Paddock ovals 1 and 2. It’s an area that is already a sporting precinct, does not have the heritage issues and any tall development would not block public views. Obviously there are still issues to be faced, including relocating the current tenants of GP Oval 1.

However,I don’t expect we will hear anything about our new home until a formal proposal is prepared and lodged with the relevant Authorities. I hope it is soon.

Solid idea but you need to combine it with a social utility program if you want State/Federal funding for the development. Not impossible but it may not be the easiest place to run that argument.

Tough probably DJ but there is no where else close to the G. Appears to be there or the outer suburbs.

Agree  ... the outer suburbs almost self select... if we were a richer club we could possibly go ahead with a  solo development but that is not the case.

I hope we are also doing the sums on a co-development with Collingwood and/or Richmond.

I agree with what you say from a Richmond/Collingwood perspective but I see it as one way and perhaps the only way of retaining a near city presence.

Perhaps needs to be driven by the AFL but I cannot see the justification for ten mega training facilities being built in Melbourne.

If the price was that we trained on different days even the less favoured days (perhaps year and year about with favoured days) it is better that the comparatively sub standard facility that will almost certainly come our way if we persist with the idea of a near city base.

If only footy clubs were that magnanimous DJ. I could be proven wrong but I struggle to see anything over than the suburbs for the MFC.

The state Government have well and truly earmaked that place for a new yuppie suburb deebug.

If we had wanted to be part of it we needed to move at least ten years ago if not twenty.

Now the Ford site at Broadmeadows might be a possibility... ticks a lot of boxes... but I must admit to knowing little about the long term plans for the site.

On a similar note what about the old Toyota site at Altona?

Nah I'm picturing one of those computer generated bars.

The walls would be blue (IIRC correctly this is better than white) and then we would project computer generated images on to the walls.

One night it could be hell on earth or a similarly themed Demon club and the next a jailhouse themed room of black and white.

Of course both themes would be replete with interactive wagering facilities that are now de rigeur not to mention socially acceptable by comparison to pokies.

When you get up off the floor after rolling around in laughter have a quiet think.... not as silly as it seems.

That's funny as i feel like i've been in the twilight zone for about 48 years OD and in that time i'm pretty sure i only saw one night premiership.  If you happen to see a day one anytime can you let me know pls.  Knowing my luck it's a topsy turvy universe with you on the bright side and me on the dark and i won't even know about it!

Oh my god in the other one we have probably won ten flags and I have missed the lot.

I think we will need both...  eventually,  'OD'.  being optimistic.

But I see Gosch's paddock as our 1st and main need,  right now...  just one oval,  but with building for Offices, Gym, and Social facilities...  as we grow the club,  I see another a complex similar to what the Hawks are doing now.

But we maintain the inner heartland oval and building,  with Social facilities as our meeting place.

A Selection-Evening training, could be held at Gosch's for the selection announcements.

May we ask your vintage RN ?

Sorry Kids is referring to the original night series. It was played near the end of the season and was between the teams who didn't make the finals. The games were played at the old Lakeside Oval and due to the lack of strong lighting both on the ground and in the crowd area the event was notorious.

You of course are referring to our magnificent win at Waverley in 1987

Some wonderful history

This article contains some info on what they term the VFL night series...(Looks like we won in 1971 !!... the last year it was played)

The 1987 series is apparently known as the AFL night series

My memory is of winning a night flag at the old Sth Melbourne ground. Late 60s, early 70s, I could be wrong after all these years though. Anyone else remember.

No chance DJ.  I prefer to remain under the delusion that I'm still at least young at heart.  Getting old is not something i like to be reminded of or account for.  Having said that i might need to change my nic to Rusty 'Old' Nails shortly.

I see that the official crowd in that last VFL night premiership of ours was 21,000 odd and the largest was 37,000 odd in 1965  between Norf & the Blues.  Quite a crowd for shoddy old lakeside!

Ty chaps.  Yes I forgot about the token night series back then.  I commenced attending (some games) about 1970, courtesy of older bro, but wouldn't have been allowed out after 5pm and certainly not without mum & dad in 71!

Every area is "historic" in context, Neil. We allow cars to park every week on this "historic" parkland. I've lived in East Melbourne and have been privy to the community events, meetings and whatnot. These are people that spend weeks debating whether or not an alleyway down a backstreet should be named after a madam that used to own a brothel during WW2. It is a bubble of a suburb where its long-term residence live in delusion that the world surrounds them, rather than them being part of the world. You couldn't find a more isolated and self-important group of people if you tried.

Turning a small part of the park into an oval with a thin layer of metal pole fencing isn't going to "change the historic layout". Nor is a building over railway tracks. If I learned anything while living in the area it's that if we listened to absolutely everything the inner-city champagne socialists spew, we'd likely still be getting around in horse and carriage.

Must say the crowd numbers surprised me as well.

Six o'clock closing was not removed until 1966 and the comp started in 1956. I wonder if they had a special liquor licence that may go someway towards explaining the high attendances.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him.
