Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How do you 'win' a trade period?

Jesse was going, even if he stayed, he was gone next year and we all know what happens when players stays on when they have already checked out.

We got a big body defender in, which we dont have and a promising youngster running and delivering out of the backline, which we also dont have (Hunt hasnt proven himself there).

We also take in pick 23 into a very promising draft.

Was it ideal? No, but we certainly got 2 quality players and a good chance a ripper kid in the draft.

I agree, he was gone next year. We improved out 1st pick, and also obtained KK.   Our Club is now stronger, given Hogan was going.

This to me is a win for us. 2 decent players in and a player in Hogan who would not have been committed next season if we knocked Freo back. Now we go forward in 19 to the next step and play off in GF whilst Hogan finishes bottom 4.

It must be home factor and money for Hogan as I do not see the ball going to him enough to kick goals and boy if he sulked at times with us just watch him at Freo

They have their eye on someone and think he will will be gone by 36.

Or we will see 23 and/or 28 flipped for some established “filling a need” players.

There is so much that happens with draft order once you get past around pick 15 - even more so now with live pick trading during the draft - I doubt moving up from mid 30s to late 20s is about a specific player.

should have insisted on 5, 19, Kollo and late third rounder.

Under the deal done Neale worth more than Hoges

Gutted!

not suprised you were the narrator of this thread :)

Remember that it's about the bigger picture and filling deficits...and if a player doesnt really want to be there, with where his contract is...you can insist as much as you want , but the hand, is the hand.

It removes the distraction of will he wont he stay for the next 12 months.  We get May, Preuss, KK pick 23 for Hogan Kent and Tyson.  I reckon we have identified holes and filled them

Exactly, we’ve now got all positions covered, we’ll be top 4 next year and Freo will be bottom 6. Hogan was always going home, it was on his mind 24/7, he’s a Scarborough boy and that’s where he belongs, we now have the best backline in the AFL, top 2 midfield and the highest scoring forward line, TMac will kick 80 next year!

Interesting trade to move 8 spots, not sure what the logic is?

I think moving that 2nd pick ahead of any Toby Bedford bid.

We'd hate to have kept pick 36 and had to use it to match Bedford.

Now we can draft with 23, 28, then match a bid for Bedford that comes in the 30's or 40's, then take a late flyer on someone. Similar draft to last year, 3 picks in the 2nd round and then a later flyer.

Not sure how we fill the remaining 3 spots on the list but I'm not too worried about it either.

54 + 62 = Bedford + 70ish

am i wrong??

Correct. Though it depends on where Bedford gets bid on. If someone bids on him before pick 28, then we will have to use that pick on him.

If it is after pick 28 but before pick 54, then we use pick 54 and pick 62 slides slightly.

If it's after pic 54 then happy days.

Sounds like we are taking those picks to the draft after hearing Mahoney speak a short time ago

Quite probably. Or a shot across the bow intended for a club wavering on a trade.. who knows

Must confess, haven’t rated your football knowledge ever since you started threads (one entitled “Mushy Green Peas”) on the eve of Brad Greens 200th game. Real knowledgeable and classy...

Everyone saying our team is better is underselling how special Hogan might turn out to be. But he wanted to go, and considering trauma he has been through, we had to let him go

Not necessarily, many just see that the moves we have made to our list, leads to it being a better, more balanced list.

I don't care what anyone says, Mahoney cannot negotiate.

He folded last year when he met Adelaide's demand of two first-round picks (for Lever), he also did it with Port Adelaide as we pay for some of Watts' salary. This year, yet again, he didn't stick to his guns and accepted the loss of Hogan and Pick 65 for pick 6 and 23 (arguably a more valuable player than Lever).

He's just incapable of sticking to his guns and learning to manipulate the situation in his favour.

Should he be sacked? No. He's managed the list well and done a good job at poaching/recruiting players. Do we need someone else to negotiate better trades during trade week? Yes.

Excellent outcome. Now our list is truly balanced, and with enviable depth. However talented he is, Jesse Hogan was never part of this team’s growing brotherhood. He always appeared to be on the outer. Best of luck to him, but if we want a team where everyone is happy to be there, he was never going to be part of that. We got the players we were after, and whatever with pick 23. Arguing over petty details of draft order picks is pointless when the goal has been achieved.

Absolutely, certainly, positively correct Mr Webber. We are looking like a better team already. Our backline stocks are now most impressive. Our forwards will get the job done and our backs will limit opposition scoring. We may just be unstoppable.

So we have 7 senior spots and 1 rookie spot (or 5 senior and 3 rookies).

4 or 5 drafting (23, 28, 54, 62, 70) and then possibly we need to look at someone who has been delisted. Or, I believe we heard a rumour that Dec and T Smith were being upgraded? (Could ve wrong).

I still am a fan of giving a freeman or hartung a lifeline, but there is a reason I’m not a list manager.

Agree.

There were people at the start of trade week saying if we can get May in, possibly having to give up Hogan, it would be an exceptional result.  That isn't about the respective value of each player, just the net result of trade week.

I'm probably more concerned that losing a player like Tyson hurts our midfield depth, but understand him wanting an opportunity.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
