Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018

I know this thread is already VERY premature, but considering we've got the bye this week I thought it'd be a good time to think about how our list may shape up beyond this year

POTENTIAL DELISTING (all players out of contract after 2018)

Dion Johnstone (probable)

Jay Kennedy-Harris (probable)

Patrick McKenna (probable)

Aaron Vandenberg (possible)

Mitch King (possible)

Josh Wagner (unlikely)

POTENTIAL RETIRE

Bernie Vince (probable)

Cameron Pederson (probable)

POTENTIAL TRADE OUT

Dean Kent (possible)

Dom Tyson (unlikely)

POTENTIAL TRADE IN

Andrew Gaff (possible)

Ed Langdon (unlikely)

Thoughts? Any other rumours and stuff leave down there ?

Others have reported Johnstone has been training well and playing with Casey, and doing some good stuff with Lord Nev @ training?

What is the rationale for delisting?

Low performances in the VFL really. Doesn't seem like he's close to getting a game. Gotta open up list spaces somehow

Agree I think Dion who just turned 20 needs a bit more time to see if he can develop a role for the club.

I know its obvious but we won't know until the end of the year, its really hard to pick potential delisted players especially like AVB, McKenna, Kent who will be given a chance to prove themselves once fit.

Wagner is definitely staying. I would imagine he will be a required player with Lewis/Vince retirement not too far away.

At this stage the only clear one to me is JKH. Has been given a fair of time/development and opportunity and while he can find the ball I just think we have so much midfield depth now he is no longer required. I think Maynard at 26 could also be an option but I'd say they would give him another year considering he hasn't as long in the system/game of AFL.

Always love a bit of mail.

You should see our mailman. Rocks the short shorts in his Hilux like a weapon. How short are your shorts?

You didn't mention Balic! I thought he was on a 1 year contract for this year. Agree McKenna if he cannot get on the park and similarly Vandenberg and when Gaff nominates MFC I suspect JHKH will be surplus too.

Mitch King is a ruckman and they need time so doubt they would discard. Bernie and Pedo might get another year. Then there might be a left field decision like Jack Watts last year which no-one saw coming

Dont mind this.. he'll add experience to our on ball brigade and we're at a point now where we need to start to looking at life after Nathan Jones. With that I'd like to start to ease him out onto an outside role or a half forward while we get the likes of Brayshaw, Petracca, Spargo more on ball time.

I have a horrible feeling that might be Tyson.  He doesn't draw the attention Watts did so the media don't ask too many questions but their are some unsettling similarities.

I think we should be targeting players like Kelly, Polec, Burgoyne, Impey, Isaac Smith, Cameron, Stephenson type players. Unsure who's out there and on the market, will brainstorm later tonight.

Gaff.

Sign immediately: Brayshaw, Jetta, Oscar, Harmes

Probably stay: T Smith, Balic

Could go either way: Kent, Keilty, Wagner, Vanders, Flippers, King, Johnstone, McKenna

Probably go: Bugg, Vince, JKH, Pedersen

As far as contracted players: Frost, Stretch and Tyson the three most likely to seek trades I would've thought, unsure there will be much interest for any of them. And we might want to investigate moving Garlett.

Any interest in Murphy? 31 next month, doesn't seem like a optimal fit for our list profile however he has elite decision making. Gaff a priority but not against giving Murphy a look in if we don't break the bank in doing so.

I saw that and thought:  not for us.

He is 31 in a few weeks and had a plantar fascia injury a few months ago.  Came back early and immediately did more damage and now out for at least 2-3 weeks.  It sounds similar to our own JV situation so MM could be out a lot longer.

At least Jack has time and youth on his side.  With Murphy one is never too sure how many he games he would get to play before he retires.

There was 'crazy' talk a month or son ago about Murphy possibly being offered big money that could earn the Blues and band 1 or 2 compensation pick.  That would be insanity for any club to pay overs for Murphy.  With that said, Murphy could opt for two years at a successful or 'verge of success' club on a small contract - essentially trading the cash for success.

If he was willing to come to us on such a contract, then I'd be happy to have him.  (But I very much doubt he'd leave)

The ruck situation is a worry, with both of our developing or 'project' ruckmen being on the 'could go either way' list.

Hopefully there's some unsighted potential there and we can keep at least one of them on and look to trade in a mature ruck to help out.

It's looking very thin below Gawn and we need King or Filipovic to show something in the second half of the season.

I think given his age that notion would be promptly dismissed by the AFL.

Goodwin's mantra of "When you win the ball on the inside, the outside game comes naturally" rings true, however even when we win that area I still believe we are lacking one forward half distributor in Melksham's mould. Too often when the pressure is ramped up, we bomb away inside 50. It is as clear as day. Someone who lowers the eyes under pressure and can hit a moving forward 50 target is a priority for me in the coming off season.

Delist: McKenna, Vandenberg, Kennedy-Harris, Johnstone, and one or both of King / Filipovic

Retire: Vince

Trade/Delist: Kent or Bugg

Retain on short-term deals: Keilty, Balic, Smith, Pedersen, Wagner

Resign on long-term deals: Brayshaw, Harmes, Jetta, McDonald

That gives a minimum of seven picks across the national draft and rookie draft before further trades. I hope we can keep Tyson, but Frost would be surely looking for more opportunities.

Clearly Kent has small trade value and Bugg no trade value, but I can't see the value in keeping both. Maynard is very lucky he has a contract for next year, because I can't see him getting a game unless we have a truck load of injuries.

If it was up to me I would delist both ruckmen and find a decent mature age state league ruckman. King and Filipovic are light years away from being AFL ruckmen, and even then they'd be more likely to be poached by another team before Gawn retires.

I did forget about him!

At 204cm and a lot of power in the genes from his mum and dad, he'll hopefully come along in 4-5 years.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
