Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Paul Roos on the Demonland Podcast Tonight (13/6)

Just listened to the podcast - well done guys: some great questions. I don’t know why, but I always get a bit emotional when I hear Roos talk about his journey with the MFC. His opinions on the club have the benefit of true insight and should be listened to for a more measured analysis of where we are at right now. Regarding QB, he simply said that the Pies played really well and we didn’t play so well. That was it - no panic stations. He said that you can’t compare the current club and team to 2013/14 as it is a completely different entity - that club no longer exists. His only expectation is that we play finals this year, which continues our planned trajectory and sets us up for sustained finals over the next 5-8 years.

Jeez, that sounds almost rational!

Loved the interview. All these interviews have been great; because they come from the perspective of the die-hard MFC supporter, they allow questions on details that would be lost to the generalist footy reporter.

Thought Roos’ perspective on the “same old Melbourne” was great. I have, for quite some time now, have a confidence and trust in this team that I haven’t had probably since early in the Daniher era. Losses still happen; I put the most recent one down to meeting a team that has hit its straps and we were 1% off; my belief hasn’t budged. I have noted that many of my fellow Demonlanders haven’t caught on that we’re not the “same old Melbourne” any more, but I understand the emotional pain that has lead to that skepticism. Props to @Demonlandfor introducing Roosy to the term “MFCSS”!

Also, would turn for @Supermercado if the voice is anything to go by. Nothing against Andy or Grape, but the guy is a natural.

It was @Grapeviney's question but I love the chuckle he gave.

It's hard not to automatically think "same old Melbourne" after a loss like the QB game considering the deep scarring that supporters have from the past decade. It's been a long time since I was relatively confident that we could rise to a big occasion like I did for QB and I was disappointed yet again. I will take Roosy's counsel on the matter though. For me the back half of the year will be proof as to whether we are a new Melbourne or a new version of the "same old Melbourne".

Very enjoyable listen, guys.

Wasn’t the Trengove trade trying to net us Lever at ~14 or so in that draft as opposed to contributing to a Dangerfield collective offering?

Interesting his remarks about TMac on the wing.  Said he understood it, but thought it's best to play players in their best position.  Said oppo coaches would be rubbing their hands with glee when he starts on the wing.  I don't understand it.  What is the aim of starting TMac on the wing?

Well its worked in patches. I think the idea of starting him on the wing would be to get him involved around the ball early. He's then been floating forward taking his usually undersized opposition with him or making the opposition have to switch and lose their structure creating an advantage for him or others as marking options. It didn't work as well against the bulldogs but it has definitely worked through patches of games with him on the wing also as a marking target further up the ground switching with Hogan.

I definitely don't think he needs to play as high up the ground as he has been. High half forward for sure in tandem with Jesse.

A great production and I am grateful it didn't start on time so I could listen from start to finish. The range of questions was perfect and Roos as always candid and honest.

I laughed when MFC syndrome was mentioned and liked Roos reply that this is not the same club that we remember back in those dark days. This is the start of the journey of stiving for ultimate success over the next 5 years. Well done team

The late start is still a mystery to me. No settings had changed but it just would not connect to the stream whereas a computer in the other room with the same settings and internet connection were able to connect fine. Thankfully Roosy wasn't waiting on the line as we usually do with guests otherwise I would have really been embarrassed.

Highlight for me was Roosy having a chuckle at Demonland's working term for the veil of negativity, i.e. MFCSS.

Other highlight was him slipping in a "we" when talking about the current day team, not the one he coached. He's red and blue for life now :)

I'm pretty sure Roosy started out with "you" and then was ending with "we".

He said it himself at the end that he's a Demon now.

I was just about to say that was my favourite part! "As a Melbourne supporter" or something to that effect.

Great interview, thanks.

I just listened to the podcast and wanted to say thanks heaps to the team for securing an interview with Paul Roos. Few people could give supporters a better insight into the rebuild than he. My opinion of him as a football “brain” using his own term is “elite” few people would have the skill set to change the culture at the club than himself along with PJ. A massive task.

To hear that he felt his greatest achievement was seeing all the kids wearing their Melbourne jumpers on Monday made him proud, put a lump in my throat. He gets football in a holistic way. It’s not just about team it’s also about club.

A guy I worked with prepared the game day drinks for the Swans players and told me that after their Premiership win in 2005, he took all the support staff out to the centre of the MCG with the premiership cup in hand, past it around and thanked them all while giving an inspirational talk about “this is what it’s all about” and how everyone played their part in the historic win.

Not long after his tenure at the Dee’s was over he stated that he felt 2019 was the year he believed we should be seriously challenging for the cup. So while riding the bumps and dissapointments along the way I have kept this in mind.

No pressure but, It would also be great to hear Peter Jackson talk about the administration side of the rebuild as well, once he has finished up and the dust has settled.

Thanks again.

It would be great to have PJ on the podcast but it would be pretty intimidating for the fellas doing the show.

When I have seen him interviewed, he seems to have little tolerance for fluff and is incredibly straight down the line. Roosy, while a professional no doubt, is a much more laid back character when he needs to be. @Grapeviney @Supermercado and @Demonland would want to be on top of their game!

The interview was a good one (though the Jaka question was a bit out of left field). It helped give me confidence back after QB. I knew the disappointment would subside but he is brilliant at putting things in perspective. And he can push back reasonably forcefully if he finds an assertion to be BS.

Great interview.

In 2013 whilst travelling around Europe it had not yet been announced that Paul Roo's was definitely taking up the coaching job with us. It was still very much speculation.

I visited every church in every city we visited and prayed, lit candles, said hail Mary's, threw holy water around etc, etc. I had scabs on my knees for weeks from all of my kneeling on the cold stone floors but my prayers were soon answered. I am also not a religious person nor am I a Catholic.

Thank you Paul Roos. God bless.

You weren’t in Cortona around that time were you Jane? I got married in a church there. Not the busiest of tourist destinations but bumped into a couple who were Melbourne supporters, they ended up being our witnesses.

We also had a local as a witness. He was an old man who was sitting on the steps of the church just before we went in. He ended up drinking all of the sparkling after the ceremony. Beautiful little town.

Listened to the podcast this morning and great job by Andy and co to make this happen and ask some really good questions.  Legendary stuff from Roos to give his time and speak so openly. If there is one slight negative I was slightly disappointed that we didnt ask him to read out some of the comments on here after a disappointing loss.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
