Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I definitely feel like he should be dropped, that passage play where he gave away the 50m penalty is not good enough from a leader and it's massive momentum killer. I think should we still make the finals like we all hope he will be a very important player for us, but for there here and now that kind of behaviour must be addressed as simply unacceptable.

I would also add that if it was a one time affair then I'd let it slide but in the two years he's been a Demon he's done it more times than I can think of than any other player and it has cost us at times.

Thought he had an okay game. He was a victim of his prior behaviour with that 50m it was very soft. Stupid maybe , players get away with it others dont, Jack Steele punched Oliver about 6 times in the stomach last week didn’t get a free. I guess because the perception is Lewis is a thug Oliver goes down easy.

I thought Hibberd giving away free in the goal square for blocking when it was 3 v 1 was just  as dumb.

You mean where he positioned himself between the ball and his man in a perfectly legal spot with legal body contact but was called for blocking because the umpire is an idiot and/or the rules have lost the plot? Punishing teams for having more players at the drop of the ball has to be one of the dumber rule interpretations of recent times.

I mostly agree with with, but he took his eyes off the ball and looked at his opponent for a moment. The players know that if they do that they run the risk of giving away a free kick. He needed to disguise it more.

Amount of times Lewis goes for the kick of the ground when the ball is even off the ground, is quite alarming.

If Melbourne are after another cooked player to bolster our 'experience' on field, we should also go for Harry Taylor.  At least we would show some consistency.

It is now the 'Clarkson' free after he complained to Gil over a morning coffee.  Might add Hawks were/are one of the worst offenders.

Sometimes umpires pay it sometimes they don't.  Remember the first rule of umpiring:  If it is a 50/50 call penalise Melbourne!!

That was a free kick every day of the year

He's in the side for leadership, yet nobody in the side gives away more goal-costing silly frees. Nobody.

We talk about Gawn missing his shot in Round 1, how about Lewis giving away a stupid 50 meter penalty which gifted Geelong a goal?

Once he gets his 300th, it's time to stop gifting him games due to reputation.

Eyes off the ball is a cue for the umpires, its not in any way illegal. Stupid commentators repeat it like it's a law and then fans pick up on it. It does my head in.

For what? If the Melbourne player hadn't marked then all Hibberd did was use his body to take front position at the drop of the ball. Perfectly legal, he didn't hold, didn't shepherd his opponent out of the contest by taking him out. It wasn't "an unreasonable block that prevents an opposition player from contesting the football".

What the umpires should look for when it comes to blocking is whether the player would've contested the ball if not for his team mate. And Hibberd had every right and the perfect position to contest the mark if his team mate didn't take the ball in front of him.

Anyway, to get back on topic, Hibberd failing or not failing to execute a good team play isn't comparable to Lewis giving away a really stupid and selfish 50m penalty out of frustration.

We won by 9 goals and people are worried about 1 50 metre penalty!!!

You're spot on here, mate.  Not only that but the 50 metre penalty was a soft as they come with Walters going down like he'd been shot.

Lewis is doing far more positive than negative for our side and there's simply no chance he gets dropped.

Of course he is. Played in 5 GF’s for 4 victories and people want him dropped.

Ludicrous to the extreme. and he hacked the ball off the ground a few times, rather than pick it up.

Whorethorn have been doing that for over 45 years. Not pretty but effective with a wet ball.

I hope Lewis can still get a few Senior games next year. His knowledge out there cannot be replicated in a classroom.

Nice to agree Wise...

Hilarious

For years we have lamented a chronic lack of mongrel and aggression in our team and now that we have it, many of us complain because people like Lewis give away 50's! That's the downside, the upside is Lewis is an incredibly good decision maker, has saved our butts time and time again and makes every other player think twice when he is on the field because of his unpredictable nature.

He's been slugged with another $2K fine so I reckon his missus won't be in a rush to bu him a new golf driver for fathers day.

Wonder if he'll challenge it?

He probably won't be bothered, but I reckon he would have a case.  What he did was no worse than the pushing, shoving and blocking that would go on around the stoppages during a game.  Or he could ask Michael Walters to pay it, as had he hit someone else who doesn't have a pea heart it wouldn't have even been a 50 metre penalty.

Bernie has the same Finals experience, coming into September as Jordan Lewis does he?

So amusing. We still like Choir boys to represent the MFC arond here.

When i was at School Big Carl would lift the elbow at least 3 times a game. Playing for Melboune and against us.

September is a tough month, as it should be

And we need probably both to show some old fashioned Mongrel which Im sure that they will be more than willing to do!

I remember the lily livered soft garbage from the 88 GF

NEVER EVER AGAIN and if players go out as result so be it!

Wouldn't gifting someone games to get to a magic number be put under the 'reputation' category? Oddly paradoxical comment. For the record I don't think Lewis is being gifted games.

I'm fairly embarrassed reading half the negative shite describing Jordan.

Yes he will get out sprinted, the point should be made that he shouldn't have been isolated or put in that position if the mids and forwards were putting on pressure tackling etc.

He isn' Lewis circa 2008 but he aint done yet.

Stop making him the scapegoat FFS !

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
