Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would have to be disguised (eg. Stretch for 5th rounder) as what you suggest could be described as draft tampering. AFL wants trades to be balanced (unless of course, it involves GCS or GWS, so maybe forget what I'm trying to say...)

Billy Stretch has done nothing with us.

5th rd pick is about what he is worth.

I'd just do the deal. Second round pick seems fair, unless exactly what @Mach5 said went down last year and they wanted a first rounder for him. If that's the case, I'd offer a third rounder and say he's uncontracted and we have the whip hand.

We have absolutely nailed trading this pick each year for a while now: Vince, Melksham, Hibberd and now Langdon.

I’m just hoping we manage to nail pick 3 and pick up Elliott.

And somehow get Yze back to the club.

We should trade all our picks for picks 20-29, then we could nail some champs...

Hope this one gets done tomorrow?

Still plenty of water to go under the bridge.  While it's being reported that we are his most likely destination, he hasn't come out and picked us just yet.  Might take a bit of time to get done.

He is touring Lions facilities today.

And if he dies choose the dees it means nothing in terms of providing evidence quality players do not want to come to our club.

Why? Give me some time.

Interesting the HPN Trade calculator values Ed Langdon at about pick 6

Tomlinson - pick 21
Sam Frost - pick 37
Jamie Elliott - pick 62

https://www.hpnfooty.com/?page_id=22878

These guys value quantity over quality - they are looking at future value in terms of games a player will give a team, which is probably why Elliott is far lower than Langdon and Tomlinson.

So whilst I don't like a few things about Langdon it's interesting that his age and durability see him very highly rated in some metrics.

Yeh until injury, poor form or otherwise strikes.

Remember that time our list was rated number one by champion data going into this year?

I remember.

We finished second last.

Much of champion data as well as any isolated statistical analysis is about as useful as an accordion player on a deer hunt.

How did CD rate the teams we put on the field Steve?  Serious question.  I know you're down on the Club but it not as though we saw it even close to its best.

I agree with you, I'm not saying we don't have a solid list.

I just dislike how much attention is paid to champion data these days on the whole.

I agree, to an extent. I don't have an issue with champion data per se. The issue for me is that all of their data is not available to Joe public and is  released in little packages either through say the hun or here and there on tv and footy forums.

Data needs to be seen in context of multiple sets of data. Otherwise it us too open to misinterpretation.

As I have said before the AFL should pay for the lot and give it all to the public. Champion data would charge a lot because they make money from its exclusivity but so what. We would get good data and the market would open up because clubs would explore other options to get useful data.

Langdon deal will take a while given we are in the box seat due to the PSD.

If we are going to give up the second rounder I hope we trade for a later second round pick and thus get value.

Given where we finished the season our second and third round picks are very high value. Long way between pick 20 and pick 38 all of which are second rounders.

I am hearing that this deal will be done but maybe not till later in the trade period. The trade will hinge on a couple of other deals that might eventuate. As seems to be the case with all thee things.

Which is interesting as it seems pretty straight forward. It gives me hope there is something else cooking. I’m not expecting anything major, but would be nice to see us bring in a small forward, especially if Elliott goes elsewhere.

I hope so too, but it's likely to be the B Hill deal and Freo playing hard ball.

Would like the Langdon one to get done early so we can move on

The Champion Data nonsense frustrates me as much as anyone but my point of quoting from HPN was merely to show the different values from an independent source who's crunched some numbers. Analytics is slowly but importantly coming in to footy and a lesson from other sports is that the draft and player exchange period is where that often starts.

Coaches don't want geeks telling them how to run a gameplan but they'll listen when there's stats that show that drafting or recruiting a certain player is far more valuable than some other player. Even more so when it's pick for pick trades that aren't even attached to a certain player.

I don't think Langdon's worth anything like pick 6. A 2nd rounder makes sense. But I was surprised to see him rate so highly.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
