Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Nice work PA. Curious though if you had seen Petty and Spargo prior to their drafting? One thing that has happened earlier this season was that almost none of the regular VFL watchers and reporters predicted Spargo to be selected, with the general opinion that he wasn't ready just yet, and yet he ticked the coaches boxes. Curious if Petty has done the same, as the consensus is that he's not ready, granted it's different position to a small forward. Going back in time, wikipedia says OMac made his debut in round 22 of 2015, so it wouldn't be unprecedented to see Petty in there.

Edit: Who knows, maybe a lanky American in Mason Cox is the best matchup for our tallest new defender upon debut, and OMAC can play a bit of a Lever role in doing some intercept work, having seen how it's done first hand in the past 2 months. Also noticed that some of OMACs kicks on the weekend were quite accurate and attacking, like some of Hibberds long range kicks.

I reckon that debut had a fair bit of the 'we'll give you a run in the final game of a nothing season so you get a taste of it before the pre-season' about it. Different circumstances in 2019.

We’ve had a good run with injuries so I was waiting for the penny to drop but this one hurts. Not just because he was our “big recruit” but because he was starting to play some bloody good footy for us.

Good luck Jake, reload for a big 2019.

It’s without doubt a devastating blow.

The club and ‘the boys’ will get around him though. He strikes me as a long term Demon and he is already absolutely part of the fabric of this list now - he’s achieved this in a remarkably short period of time.

You don’t win a flag without some adversity. This is just one of the challenges we will face this year, albeit a big and hugely unfortunate one.

It’s undeniably a hiccup but IMO we have the depth, the systems and structure, and now the belief and overall hardness to overcome it. I reckon we will.

I just hope he has the speediest recovery possible in the circumstances, and that he gets the opportunity to work on his leadership skills in other areas, such as spending time in the box on match day etc.

Good luck to the young man.

I believe you make your own luck in life, but it’s hard not to feel like this club is cursed.

To lose Lever is a massive blow to our structure. No doubt our backline is the weakest part of our side. Hibberd and Jetta are elite and so is Lever. We lose Lever and suddenly we are left with only 1 tall defender who is very young still. The replacements for Lever are there but gees not one of them will be half the player Lever is.

This is a big blow to our chances of winning a flag. I know people mentioned Murphy but losing a non KP player is much easier to cover. Losing Lever is the same as losing Hogan or TMac or Gawn. Very hard to replace. When Lever found form so did we. This is a huge blow!

Don’t agree with this at all.  Goodwin has created a team that is definitely not reliable on one player. I think the only player who could have a massive loss for us would be Gawn.  Losing players like Lever certainly impacts our team but we are so team orientated now with players moving in to different positions and re-setting the game plan when things aren’t working.  Point in fact when Lever went off & we adjusted pretty quickly & won in a whole new way.  I was very close to the game on Saturday & actually thought the players looked really tired ( did anyone else notice that) but with the 22 all playing their roles ..they ground out a win.  I actually thought it was one of our better wins given where we had played last week..Lever going off...Melksham struggling with an ankle & Tim Smith struggling with ankle & sore neck.  We have a lot of depth & I for one am excited to see someone else get a chance.  I am gutted for Lever but he’s only 22 & will be part of our club for years.

Totally different. ACLs are very common and recovery straight forward. Max had 3 of them. Hasn’t hurt his form. Lever is only 22. He has a long career ahead of him.

Max had 2 ACLs and a Miniscus, then a hammy on the same side as the ACLs.  But not 3 ACLs.  I hope lever can recover the way Max did.  Max worked really hard to come back from those injuries.

Just on the rance dive, I think the more unsettling thing is the umpire fell for it, if he doesn’t get double the fine Sinclair got I will be [censored]

Another example of the AFL (in general) not remaining as a level playing field in terms of its governance and/or standards management.

losing his link play in the middle of the ground

This is the big attribute that we must sustain; his link play is too valuable and so is his delivery.

Desperation ? ..just posing it

Despite costs by the bucket load in the US medical systems, there are techniques that streamline the recovery processes that the Yanks have been perfecting for many athletes. I guess it is a matter, for us, of weighing up the benefits and the perceptions of quality treatment.

Harmes looked to spend a fair bit of time back with Lever down, and could be a useful replacement in the role.  It would then be about adding a rotation to the midfield.

Interesting about Harmes' game against the Doggies. He could well be a handy utility providing support to whoever is replacing Lever (my choice would be Frosty). Harmes can get his body in the way of opponents with strength, agility and he ain't an 'observer' in close with opponents. Could be useful following in the backline in these circumstances.

Viney mentioned a few names on the footy show as possible replacements and good to hear him mention Keilty second after Frost. It could mean little or maybe he’s really rated down there. Positive plug nonetheless.

Good luck to Lever with all that seems before him. Let us not forget that another very important player, Milkshake, is also injured and thankfully, to a lesser extent than Lever. We need Milkshake to have a strong and rapid recovery for the game against the Filth as I doubt that he can be effectively countered by the black and white Detritis.

Melksham said in an interview Sunday that he’ll be right for QB, there was no turning of the ankle, just stretched back so all good I reckon. Has 8-9 days to rest up too.

For some unknown reason, he's been a disaster as a defender. Seems odd but it's happened several times

From the bench, if absolutely necessary, Pedersen could come onto the fwd line to release another (TMac, even Hoges) for CHB duties as the game progresses or worsens.

It was on the Sunday Footy Show on 9 yesterday morning. I tried a search but couldn’t find anything readily available, to watch the episode you need to download the 9now app.

Hopefully another member can post it for you.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
