2015 AFL Draft:

1. Carlton: Jacob Weitering

2. Brisbane: Josh Schache

3. Sydney: Callum Mills (Academy selection - matched bid from Melbourne)

4. Melbourne: Clayton Oliver

5. Essendon: Darcy Parish

6. Essendon: Aaron Francis

7. GWS: Jacob Hopper (Academy selection - matched bid from Gold Coast)

8. Gold Coast: Callum Ah Chee

9. Melbourne: Sam Weideman

10. Carlton: Harry McKay

(12. Carlton: Charlie Curnow - the only other player in the draft to go close to Clarry's impact)

----

Essendon were extremely keen on Oliver. One version of events had us trading up to Pick 3 from Pick 6 to get ahead of Essendon to ensure we got him.

My memory was lost in a lane in Marrakech but didn’t we start with pick 6 and traded it and others to the Suns to get 3  and 10 and be in front of Bombers fro Clarry then traded our 10 to GWS and others  for Bugg and 7 to get Weed...but that could have been another time..

No, I'm sure he  shook it Rusty. He must have been quick though. He pinched my watch and I didn't notice that until much later.

Thanks for that - diminishing memory at work, again.

like dropping food on the floor pick it up within 3 sec's, and eat it, no germs????? LoL.

i suggested the 3 second rule or similar Re the handshake,,, being so quick, he didn't even notice... don't bother, its not worth it RN.  my poor attempt at humour.

Not sure we were ever going let him slip. Apparently we were the only ones that liked him as a first round pick. Was considered a bolter only because Melbourne were interested and had two picks in the top 10. That's the great thing about our recruiters now. Capable of identifying real talent and going for it.

I think you might be mistaken there. Oliver was going to Essendon with pick 4 or 5 hence why we moved up the draft order.

10 or 12 clubs requested that Oliver attend the Draft Camp as he was not an automatic selection as he didn’t play for Vic country.

Im just glad we made the right decision with Oliver over Parish

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
