Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

See - I think this was the point that jnrmac was making in the post-match thread rather than simply raining on everyone's parade like a curmudgeon. We beat the lowly teams in front of us, which is great, but I'm not sure it means that our structures are working just fine. There have also been inclusions over this period following omissions subsequent to our poor losses against stronger teams - which makes it difficult to assess best combinations and genuine output/form-lines.

E.g. - Garlett was dropped after a 45 i-50 game against the top team, whereas Spargo has had the fortune to play in a 83 i-50 flogging - and done reasonably - against some pretty spent opposition. The same with Weideman - posters are lauding what he brings structurally, and how he allows Tmac and Hogan to score - but (despite your feelings on him),  Pedo wasn't given the opportunity to play with Tmac in the team in Weid's current role. It could well be a far more potent combination.

I get that you're saying what you believe the footy dept will do at selection this week, but I remain concerned that they'll be complacent or boxed in by our easier wins and that some of efficiency and personnel issues have been papered over.

Hence the reason to keep changes to the minimum and lets see how the structure works at the G against better talent. Goodwin noted in the presser that they have trained all summer to be a forward looking team and game plan, possibly evidenced by the 83 Inside 50's. The team in general in its current form (plus Viney if fit) deserves a shot at home and lets see what happens.

No point adjusting now if you don't know what needs adjusting.

I would love seeing Fritsch and Spargo on the big ground this week.

Even though he was serviceable last night I think a lot of people are forgetting how poor ANB has been this year.

Out: ANB

People need to understand that ANB is in the team for his 2 way running. There is nobody currently in the VFL who can cover that... unless you want Bugg back

I am not arguing Tyson, its obvious he should be switched for Viney. ANB or Bugg wouldnt turn a game probably but Bugg has the potential to, in my opinion.

Petracca is always threatening and then nothing comes from it. But maybe he is also getting the wonderful, magical "Goal Assists".

Do you believe Tracc's safe?

The thought that Bugg should replace Trac makes me a little nauseated.

I will have Trac at 30% with 9 disposals a game over Bugg at 100% with 90 disposals a game. Jesus H Christ, we do not need Bugg ever.

Viney and Garlett in.

ANB and Spargo out. Unfortunate for Spargo but watching Garlett against Box Hill I think he may be right for senior selection.

Viney in for one of Neal-Bullen, Fritsch or Hannan. Petracca needs a kick up the backside, but should stay.

Weideman gets one last chance to do something useful. He is basically a witches hat at present, but it is not hurting the team yet. No way he should play against Adelaide if he doesn't get double figure possessions or hit the scoreboard this week.

Garlett needs to come back when he is nice and hungry, possibly for Spargo.

As for Bugg, never, ever again.

Whilst it's a lay down misere that Viney comes back in..... Who would have thought it a bit more than an obvious swap.

Simon will need to readjust his applecart

We might get caught unawares here come selection.

Will be interesting.

He's the best witches hat I've ever seen, setting up goals and what not.

Tyson: 81+% disposal efficiency, which is higher than Jones, Vince, Salem and Hibberd, all of whom are supposed to be good users.

But heh ...

I be interested in the htb against stat which I think might be damning.  i can't find it....

You might possess the ball without the opportunity to dispose of it, which then flatters your DE.

He is caught with the footy a lot.

Because the player wasn't injured Binman, for some reason the AFL love to  judge incidents by the end result rather than the action which is just bizarre.

Having said that Harmes should not be citied for this.

All we have to do is mention this incident here or criticise the AFL and they will report it, and Harmes has just had a breakout possession game as well...

I think Spargo will go back down, he's had a taste but got run over a few times and couldn't stick the tackle.

No problems there, he's shown a bit and will learn from the experience and come back a better player.

Viney a definite in and maybe Jeffy but not sure who the other out would be.

Definitely not Weideman, he gives us so much flexibility and has done well as a back up ruck.

I love Dom but he is really up and down at the moment and Viney needs to come in to get an AFL game under the belt before we take on the Crows in the NT.

I really like Tyson and feel somewhat aggrieved that he rarely gets to play in the centre square at ball ups these days and even with the penchant of almost all coaches to want to use their wings as additional big-bodied mids, I still view his omission from the square as a sign that he is on the outer with Goody - metaphorically as well.

But with Fritsch the flavour of the month and now moving to the wing, I can't really see what other options Goody has for Viney's inclusion, other than to pull the Tyson pin - as he did Rd 1 mind you when his pre-season mindset got the better of him and he punted on a second-gamer to tag Ablett.

The anti-ANB and Harmes lobby group has taken a real hit lately. Both continue to apply pressure and added enough clever offence that only a downright niggardly old man would still clamour for their removal. Their argument no doubt is that we've played three bottom sides in a  row now (and a fourth awaits) so them finding form is a furphy. But that same logic applies to everyone in the side. We won't know who has taken a genuine step up until we play some tough opponents and player's pros and cons are truly exposed for us all again.

That said, I think unless a player has a niggle or we decide to rest an old boy (we have three these days) or a young pup (Spargo) then it's hard not to see Dom being the one for Viney.

As for Spargo, Jeffy's form means a change is likely anyway - the only issue is whether Goody waits until the Alice Springs game (Jeffy kicked five there last year) for the switch or pulls the pin to get Jeffy back to play his old dark navy Blue mates. I suspect the latter.

There is some logic also in Tim Smith being brought in to replace the Weed, but once again, the Bull may have to wait until we lose again and changes become necessary. The Weed has hardly been a shining light in the ruck, but he has presented well up forward and a couple of his handball gives have been first rate. He is still very much a project player, but with Goody going the three-big forward project at the minute, he's safe this week IMO.

Nailed it. Agree with all of the above.

Good point about big bodies playing wing. Tyson really is a roving mid who extracts the ball from congestion and the many stoppages we engineer (an important part of our strategy ie if not option to cross or find a free man, go long down the line and force a throw in or ball up and then let Max loose).

Can't drop either Harmes (his best game for the MFC) or ANB after their games and so a like for like means Dom is the obvious choice, particularly because as you say Jeffy is good chance to replace Spargo (and only because Garlett's best is too good to not play seniors - though he is on notice).   Tough on Spargo but great experience for Spargo and he will be better for it. And he'll be back.

Fritsch actually spent some time in the middle on Saturday, which was surprising. Good move because he is already close to our best kick and has great evasive tricks. And though not big he is no kid.

After reading through the thread I've been convinced that giving Bernie a week off (rested) might be the wisest decision.

The game in Alice the following week is generally played in trying conditions, and a freshened up Bernie against his old side would be fantastic. That said he might be cherry ripe anyway, up to Misson and the gang. The same goes for Lewis.

Giving Viney an opportunity to regain match fitness against the Blues will hopefully have him primed for a real test against the Crows.

Viney, Garlett and Tim Smith are 3 names that will be right on top of the selection committee's list this week.

Viney would be the obvious choice, but the issue is, who for? While Spargs 2 goals were handy, he did look a bit tired throughout the game and maybe the limited pre season is starting to catch up to him. This could potentially be a swap for swap spot as Viney could spend a lot of minutes up forward with bursts through the midfield. The in form Brayshaw Harmes and Oliver are doing the job just fine in there.

Some are saying Dom Tyson, but I think hes been played out of position and its exposing his lack of pace and spread. His best is when hes an inside midfielder with his close hands in tight.

I still feel Garlett is in our best 22.. I wish ANB played another stinker because even with his 2 goals and 20 plus disposal, i still wasn't satisfied. Hes another who could come in for Spargo I feel.

Weideman is an interesting one.. I dont think he will be dropped as I believe hes playing his role and releasing Hogan and McDonald up forward. I'm also in the camp that we get as much games into him as possible, because like Omac, it'll click one day and hell starting clunking those Mark's and hitting the scoreboard more regularly! I also believe Gawns form the last couple of weeks has to come down to the work of Weideman being able to compete in the ruck and release big Maxy up forward.. but you also cannot ignore Tim Smith form in the VFL! Hes absolutely banging down the door at Casey and could provide a whole different dynamic in the forward line with his intense tackling and pressure for such a big bloke. I wouldn't mind seeing Goody giving Smith a good 4 week stretch to see what they dynamic could be and see if he's up to it? Sometimes you got no other choice but to pick someone who's in Reich vein of form in the VFL.

So you’re hoping one of our players, plays badly so they can drop him??

This is an awesome attitude to our team.

Carlton have 3 big talls down  back - Jones, Rowe, Plowman

Weid should play and play a role that sacrifices himself to take Liam Jones out of the way. No way Plowman  and Rowe can go with Hogan and Tommy Mc ..

They are quick the Blues and will be far greater opposition to that of the Suns. Anyone suggesting Viney doesn't play is crazy. Vince has had a pretty good year IMO.. just back to playing simple footy, not trying to be an enforcer or play cute. He stays in. I think its probably Tyson. I'm a Dom fan, but if its balance an dliek for like then he probably goes. Great problem to have.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches.
