Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The precedent is set with the current coach - he got about 12 months and the knives started appearing.

A few well timed articles in the newspapers and the monkeys will fall out trees with the vitriol & “we have heard it all before.”

MFCSS is toxic and lurking in the “shadows”

Interesting times ahead. Wish the new CEO luck and will watch with interest.

Coming from someone that had blind faith in Schwab........

Will go down in history as one of the best people to have ever served the club in an administrative level.

I don’t think we would be here if it wasn’t for him.

Thank you Peter for all your hard work and for saving our club!

Maybe we can drag out his retirement by making out that we need even more time to find a successor

Just keep earmarking idiots destined to fail, so he has to stay til we find the right one, which will be never.

No, I think he is saying Jackson was a big failure and we obviously need the AFL help now more than ever as PJ was a failure.

Why this fool is still allowed to post here after he was banned as Dr Who and numerous other identities is beyond me, he is nothing but a low life troll.

Wouldnt be surprised at all if it was someone like Chippindall.

I hope he has a very big say in appointing his successor

Pretty sure he has the successor already with him or about to be with him...reckon you're right 'Mach', will come from within.

He's always talked of a succession plan for his job as we did with the coaching.

Same way Kerry Packer kept Richie Benaud as captain of the commentary team.

Maybe a Schwab/Lyon duo could be our Eastlake/Walker? And to top things off, Garry could change his name to Garth to give him a fresh start in football administration.

I have been very impressed with PJ.

that said, I will wait to praise him for another 12 months. I would like to see him leaving with definite concrete plans for a new base and plans that make very clear that the loss of pokies income is well and truely covered (a decision I am thrilled with it must be said).

I was scrolling through this thread to see if anyone had mentioned this before i did a post of my own.

My thoughts exactly.

His good work might all be undone if we are left millions out of pocket and (still) homeless.

He has no doubt been manna from heaven with regards to practically everything else he has been involved in, and its possibly already sorted, but until its confirmed, i will hold off a little on the prostrating at the Alter of Peter.

Massive news.

It actually gives me great heart that he's leaving - he obviously thinks the club is in good shape and ready for the next phase of its existence, as opposed to feeling like he needs to hang around and make sure the rebirth is complete and stable.

Successor model mean Mahoney maybe?

Like the coaching hand over, like the pokies withdrawal the club is looking to get this right. This next appointment is almost as critical as what PJ has done for the club to date.

Actually, he's not. His contract is up in October but he will likely still be at the club, smoothing over the succession until into 2019, according to all the articles.

No....the next appointment IS THE MOST CRITICAL .

I would prefer they source from outside the ckub. Best-available. Why limit yourself.

I think you might be right. Some of his major achievements have been strengthening club management and developing internal staff. Every decent organisation has a detailed succession plan, and I’m certain Melbourne does. Don’t be surprised if it’s a current staff member.

Garry Lyon just mentioned Mahoney a chance to replace Jackson and threw up a name, think it was Ryan Larkin? Anyone know him?

edit: Ryan not Brian , Jackson not Hackson

Ryan was promoted late last year and here is the club release http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-09-15/jackson-promotes-from-within-club

Ryan has worked at MFC since he was 18 in marketing activites.  He is now 30, highly regarded and clearly going places.

From my experience, a CEO needs a breadth of experience in different aspects of a business  and across business types.  In our industry exposure to the vagaries and network at AFL house is essential.

Of our current staff George de Crespigny would be the most likely to fit the bill as he has wide ranging experience http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-08-21/dees-appoint-chief-commercial-officer  He has worked at the Bumbies in Canberra and spent 8 years in the AFL.

I trust the club and PJ will make a good decision but if I had to guess an internal successor it would be de Crespigny.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
